I like the game a lot. I'm treating it separately from Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice and not expecting it to be like the previous titles, it's a separate game. This is part of why I'm enjoying it based on its merits alone. I enjoy all three games for different reasons.
I find the game incredibly fast paced with run so I am currently having trouble slowing down that pace somewhat. but I'm getting better as time goes on and I feel confident I'll be able to slow down the pace much more the better I get. I play Goro and Cage, neither of which are built around 50/50 mix ups of the low/overhead variety. I really enjoy their designs both gameplay wise and from an aesthetic point of view. I also enjoy Sonya who has good overhead/low starters, there's lots of fun characters that fit several styles contrary to what you hear.
The spacing is definitely there and the game is fun with a bit more execution from MK9 with the addition of run combos, run cancels and what not.
Level design and level effects are gorgeous and well done, seeing your characters get soaked from rain or dirt on them adds to the little nuances that make the game more enjoyable.
Managing meter so you can wake up, extend pressure coupled with stamina being required for run, to back dash, use interactables, break combos and what not means more depth and more cognizant thought on the part of the player.
Story was good, the introduction of the next generation was a fun departure from previous titles and seeing the lore and story actually move forward in meaningful ways is awesome. Death generally speaking seems to mean a lot more in this current timeline for both heroes and villains. I'll save the story review for another time
.
The game is much more fast paced than some other titles, which isn't good or bad, just different. If you approach the game like it's its own separate entity and don't expect it to be MK9 or another game with better graphics, you'll probably enjoy it a lot more. Don't expect it to be anything, but what it is: MKX.
So you are just going to ignore the fact that Denzell was very obviously playing footsies in that stream you linked?
People have their minds made up on whatever, even if evidence to the contrary is presented, which is why I find these arguments rather fruitless and don't engage in them. Everyone's allowed to disagree and have their opinion, but if you're not legit open it's kind of like why?
I also will never understand why anybody would compare how matches are played in a game that is over two years old to one that is a month old where people don't have even close to as much knowledge.
The same players or not is totally irrelevant because the fact still remains: Those players had two plus years with Injustice and one month with MKX.
And I saw yomi where one of the Kung Jin players i believe slayer walked back and did Kung Jin's low to punish something whiffed. I saw Mr. Mileena some weeks ago do a low poke then walk back and whiff punish with Kitana's forward 2 string. I've walked back and whiff punished moves with Goro's forward 3 into full combo.
MikeMetroid was also doing low pokes then blowing up counterpokes with Johnny Cage''s overhead for a punish with a well spaced walk back. These are just a few examples off the top of my head. There's plenty of examples out there of players with decent to great knowledge of spacing that are playing the spacing/footsie game, but that cannot be expected to be played optimally yet, lots of people don't know how to fight most of the roster to know all the ranges of their best or most commonly used options yet we still are seeing it done and done well.
