It will probably be a side game at major tournaments for the rest of the year. Anyone can come and play at them.

At KIT this January there was a contingent of players that still actively practiced and played MK9. This was close to 4 years since the game released. Theres nothing preventing Injustice players from doing the same, if so inclined. If there is even slightly decent numbers, many TOs will support it being run as a side game.

Err, back on topic for me.

I don't actually think it will truly die until another Injustice is announced. Even then, I still think some people will keep playing it. (Especially if the new one ends up sucking. )

In hindsight though, I wish Injustice had had more support from the developers. It felt like the DLC characters and the ultimate edition were planned from the start, much like MK9. And there's a few woefully empty places on the character select screen. I wish they would complete and add Static and Darkseid from the mobile game for symmetry's sake, y'know? Then everyone would have a reason to go back to it for awhile.

Injustice needs a movement patch, I don't know how moving at a snail's pace is interesting to anyone. I guess NRS figured that out when they gave MKX a run button.

I do think Injustice can still work if NRS actually cared about their games after 6 months, there is still so much to learn from Injustice, maybe if we gave it more time Flash players could finally win consistently. Batgirl is good but she doesn't pose the problem Martian would potentially pose. We still haven't fleshed out that game like we did with MK9.

TLDR: Injustice can still come back if NRS gave it one more big patch.

I've always been a proponent of letting games go their natural way. If people love them, they'll keep playing them somewhere. And if not, you can't force people to play them. The thing I find interesting is that all the "let's play two games" people are dead silent now. Malik, Claude, and all those guys who were preaching that we should absolutely play two games, are nowhere to be found right now on that issue

Should Injustice 2 be the next game, however, I guarantee those people will be right back at it and extremely vocal about playing two games.

Now, that's a bit of a friendly blow-up (still love you Malik), but I think it's best that games run their natural course. Just like MK, when Injustice gets a sequel down the road it'll be back in force, on next generation systems, and I'm sure the excitement will be back all over again.

There were a lot of voices wanting to play two games as MK9 reached its end, when Injustice was picking up steam. That isn't a false narrative. It happened. Whole threads were made.

The realization came to me when I found myself watching every Injustice tournament, but not bothering to tune into the top 8.
