Let's talk: MKX on PC

Lol stahp.
People are struggling to run the game on rigs that technically match recommended specs unless it's either overkill or some sort of very specific combination of components and OSs as far as I can tell (although real reasons are pretty damn obscure).
This is really something that will do nothing to people who run the game fine while possibly causing troubles (like drops and desynchs online) for the rest. There's no reason to implement this.
I don't see anything wrong with @BrombeerBabak post. If you have a good enough PC, you will run MKX butter smooth with constant 60fps at max settings. I have absolutely no performance issues in offline mode with my PC (and it's not even a top high-end machine) and having 30fps in the cutscenes/x-ray scenes are nothing but immersion taker. There are shitload of games that are superior to MKX when it comes to visuals and yet they are still better optimised games.
It's just HVS and their absolute garbage port.

Ok, so.. before today's patch my game ran perfectly. Aside from the early release Preset change crash and sometimes framerate drop in sky temple I didn't have any issues. We even ran tourneys on my set-up and no issues whatsoever.

And now I can't access the game through steam otherwise it opens it in a weird set resolution where I can only see the left upper corner.. however I pinned the game onto my taskbar and if I launch it from there it runs properly.

A new weird thing is that I have to change the tab and come back for the game to recognize any stick/controller that's plugged in. Not that big of a deal but I've never had to do this so why is it showing now?

Then another thing popped up, the game now crashes randomly and kills my whole PC.. like the whole desktop becomes a dark screen and I can't do anything but start menu (win8) and restart.
The quickest way I found to replicate this is to open the costumes mini-menu in the game (X/Sqaure), I do this with like 10-ish characters and it does this weird freeze. It sometimes does it after a few matches, it sometimes even does it on the menu..
like WTF I'm so mad, Jason can eat a dick I didn't even want to use him, what can kind of fuck-up did they put in the patch so the crash kills my whole PC? I can't access anything till I restart even after I close the frozen game which still makes no sense to me.. this is my first game that I've tried to legit play on PC so idk if there's something I can do/fix to stop this ~___~

I really wish to know why exactly things got better for some and worse for others
This is the way with PC patches, there's literally thousands of variables from system to system, from physical build to monitors to software compatibility and, crucially, competence of the owner :/
It's one huge advantage console patching has, every last machine the world over is identical inside, and you don't have to care whether the mark holding the controller has any idea what they're doing.

I know, just saying that it would be nice to know what exactly this game have trouble being well compatible with so that we could be giving actually useful solutions where they are applicable.

I've got two computers I play on, oddly enough my streaming PC (which has a slightly worse graphics card and 4GB less RAM) is running it better than the PC I built last August. Before this patch, the streaming PC ran it great at 1680/1050 with lower settings. No issues on any stages. My newer PC kept crashing whenever Steam was open for a little while, and when I was able to get the PC stable and play, the game would crash mid-online match pretty consistently. Other than the crashing, it seemed fine resolution and graphics-wise.

With this new patch, I haven't tried it on my stream PC yet, but I was able to play a few online matches without the game crashing mid-match. Small sample size, but it does look a little promising. The weird thing is the resolution was fucked when I first loaded it. I had to phantom change the resolution down, but it was still messed up. I restarted the game, and it looked fine at the resolution I had changed it to before I restarted. When I changed the resolution again, again it zoomed in and looked off, but restarting the game applied the settings correctly.

I guess I'm one of the lucky few, my problems don't seem to be as major as a lot of others.

Hey @ScreamQueen, you have an nVidia graphics card, correct?

What do you have your Vsync for the card through nVidia Control Panel set to, and again in game? What's the difference between Adaptive Vsync, nVidia Vsync, and nVidia half-Vsync (can't exactly remember the proper names for the last two, but they're something like that in-game)?

Thanks!

I had Vsync set to Off in the options menu, but set to "adaptive" in the nvidia control panel.
This caused *very* minor tearing, but I preferred the overall look/feel at this setting than having VSync turned on in game, which eliminated tearing entirely for me, but felt a tiny bit juddery.

However, post-patch the tearing is more noticeable than before, so since then I'm still to find a sweet spot for my V-sync settings. In fact, I also had to turn off AA, and I didn't have to before :/

In other news, I've definitely suffered more lag spikes online since the patch dropped, and even seen the return of the dreaded "Slo-mo" problem from MK9 and IJ
Not with every match obviously, but lag has been more frequent in general.

Cool. Yeah, I did 8 "test" fights in Single Fight last night, and toyed with different settings. In nVidia Control Panel, I always left Vsync as 3D Application Controlled.

In-game, I tried Adaptive, then nVidia Adaptive (or whatever it was called), and off. I also tried Frame Smoothing once or twice, and I also had the game auto-config settings for one match.

I noticed more frame rate hits to start, and for about four-ish matches. Seemed the best with Vsync off in-game, but there was more screen tearing than I've ever seen before.

I then said nuts to it and put it back to adpative in-game, optimized setting again with GeForce Experience (so everything at max, resolution at 1600x900), and notice while I still had more frame rate hic-ups than pre-patch, it was playing a lot smoother. Since the settings were the same as when I started, I can only assume perhaps that textures and the like were getting cached better?

Regardless, I'll tinker more tonight. The game was silky smooth pre-patch. Now it's smooth. Which is still alright all things considered.

It's running measurably better for me post-patch. At max settings except for particle density (at 10%), vsync set to fixed, and it runs 60fps every stage. Any frame drops from a lot of simultaneous actions on a stage like jungle pick right back up to 60fps afterwards. No more slowdown during Mileena's 2nd fatality or other fatalities with a lot of blood/gibs. Can't comment on the online. Overall it feels better to me.

I feel like they tuned up the core engine, which is relieving/promising after they just left mk9 fucking broken forever. but this game is still broken according to an error/time ratio (by far).
If i were to be face to face with the devs today id buy them lunch and beg for them to do another round much like this one.

And they still might, based on the feedback they get. Since the game was released on launch, unlike the last game which two years post-launch, we should see longer support.

Should.

I want to first say i don't think you are incapable of knowing these basic things but it would be the first thing i would check if i were you.
Make sure you have your ports forwarded and make sure they are forwarded for your PC
Make sure you have QoS enabled
and make sure you are using a wired connection instead of wireless.

These 3 things IMO are causing a majority of peoples online problems and they are unfamiliar with setting up their networks for gaming.

This website should help if you aren't familiar with how to port forward.

Even after all of this is taken care of you will still experience lost connections and slow matches and problems finding people in rooms since the PC version is not region locked. If you are queuing for matches you will face people from different continents and the match will likely lag horribly.

Where did you see it for free? I don't think it's everyone. Possibly related to this?

I never contacted them and i didn't even lose my save data completely. I did download the patch and i did erase my data but i had a backup ready for when they fixed it... Maybe they are just giving the DLC to people who launched the version of the game that deleted everything. There isn't any announcement about this so thats why i was posting here as i am curious.

That's what I figure they're doing. How did you get it for free though? Did it just start downloading randomly?

I was just in training mode when all of a sudden steam pop up gave me a message "all krypt content unlocked download complete" which is nice I guess but I wanted to go through and experience the krypt but can't be too picky right?

Any sort of v-sync = input lag.
Better to buy a proper monitor.

I just got the Krypt unlocking DLC as well. I guess this is their compensation?
I'm much more interested in getting the challenge costumes and online/faction stuff back though. You know, the stuff that actually takes effort to get, unlike the Krypt items.

This patch is ridiculous. It is actually making gameplay worse, unbearable even, my inputs are now missing, frame drops that were previously irrelevant are now common. HVS is trash nice to know they live next door I will be paying them a visit

Check out those new options. If that doesn't improve anything, then start raging, not before.
