Throwing and teching

It seemed to be a consensus that teching throws works like MK9, where you need to guess which direction, making teching situations extremely unpredictable.

If this is already known or has already been discussed, just disregard.

I thought it was kind of ridiculous in a game with tick throw setups to not have a simple input for teching throws like injustice, street fighter, KI, etc etc. So I tested the mechanics of throws and techs in training mode, and this is what I found.

I set the AI to record, and performed about 9 throws, mixing up forward throw, back throw, and throws with no direction. I did this so I wouldn't know which direction the throw was going to be, and to see how often I could guess right.

As it turns out, you do NOT need to guess the direction in order to tech any throw. All you have to do is press 1 when you see the throw animation and you'll tech it. Once I figured this out, I was able to tech 100% of the throws with no issues at all.

What's curious, and I'm not sure if it's intended, is that you eat 2% chip damage when you tech a throw. Why?

The initial grab does 2% damage.

But if you only have to press 1 to tech a throw, that's great. But it seems like most throw techs that happen are completely accidental. I'm not saying all of them are, just most of 'em.

Iowa's Finest.
I guess I'll mash 1 whenever i feel a throw coming. The window to tech in this game is actually pretty small. I can tech on reaction maybe like 30% of the time.

Now you need to check if you have more time to press the button if you guess right, because i will think so based on the results i get during game play.

Hate the tech system On mk9 and mkx adopts it. It doesn't work right and never did on mk9. It's the oddest design to me and imo a poor one

It's not the same as MK9. You don't have to guess the direction. Your window is small, but it really is as simple as pressing a single button.

Hmm 1 you say, how come I teched a throw with b3? It's only happened once but for damn sure happened
You're supposed to tech forward throws with either 2 or 4, or backward throws with either 1 or 3. In case you press any other buttons, they will be ignored.

@Sultani I tried the same thing as you but I wasn't able to tech it any other way than described above. What chars did you use?

I recorded Scorpion doing a mix of front and back throws.

I was using mileena, and I was able to tech every single one of them by pressing 1.

Did you make sure that bot records throw direction correctly?
Not saying my experience is different, just asking.

I also got the same results as u.
The button press must be according to back or forward throw.

different results if you're hlding block while you try and tech.

This only works if you aren't blocking. Well there's that then.

Pretty sure this needs verification as it has the potential to be a giant load of misinformation.

Actually, I know how to solve this:

Calling upon false information police officer @GGA Dizzy for clarification.

Soul Calibur works the same way with damage. Even if you tech a Throw, you still take about 2-3% damage.

For me I have to press 1 or 3 for back, 2 or 4 for forward, with an incorrect input guaranteeing the throw will go through so no OS.

EDIT: You even need to let go of block or it just wont work. MKX has solid hit/throw 50/50s, I like this.
