I'm a Georgia resident on the FLA/GA line. I'm looking to participate in the south east this time around as I didn't have the funds to compete before and now have a job giving me that opportunity. I'm willing to travel as far as MLG Raleigh unless i'm traveling with others.

Basically what I need to know is how the setup for tourneys work including sign ups, what kinds of controllers I would need, if hotels are specific or if I can just stay near the place. Pretty much anything you guys would think I would need.

Either in this thread or through PM.

Thanks in advance. Apologies if this is the wrong place for this thread.

I am not sure how far you are from Atlanta, but they are loaded with good players.

You can usually pre reg for a tournament via their website to save you money. It will cost a little bit more at the door.

Wired controllers with the battery thingy(lol) removed is the standard rule. As for converters it can be tournament specific.

You can stay at any hotel you please as long as you can get to the venue and back.

ATL is right up 75 for me about 3 hours.

That's the kind of stuff I needed to know. Any suggestions on wired controller specifics like brands and such ? i've always preferred controller to stick.

I would recommend to make it out to any local gatherings and network. That way when you travel a bit further to majors, you could split rooms/travel to lower expenses if you need to.

I use a stick so I cannot help much in regards to best converters/controllers etc.

Typically signing up to a tournament early will also cost less.

Play short sets with people to prepare yourself for tournaments. Play anyone in 2/3 sets no matter the skill since you will have to wade through varying levels of play. Knowing how to beat top players and casuals alike is important.

I intend to be at Battle n Brew well before 6 because I don't know how ATLs traffic will be .Are players typically at venues well before sign ups so you can play casuals ?

Depends, fgc is pretty cruddy about organizing and being on time so you know. . . But yeah ATL traffic is dumb at that hour so I would plan to arrive ahead. Battle n Brew is a bar too so it is easy to relax there. Lots of good food in that area as well.

Shout outs to another South Georgian :-p I live in Savannah and I can tell you that there is pretty much no scene here...as others have said the closest will likely be Atlanta.
