In your case, I completely understand where you're coming from, BUT she still has a lot of her moves. You don't have to go in and learn to chain the arch kick and whatnot. You already know the commands. Same with Reptile, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, JC, and others. They didn't change the input of their moves. There's a pretty large difference in learning a few different moves vs. learning an entirely new move set and how to chain the move set.
She has her arc kick that appears to act different, she has her dive kick, she has her ring toss (EX acts differently, and she has leg grab (EX acts differently). She doesn't have Kartwheel or MS~F1, two of her best moves and it's doubtful she has her D4 or many of her combos/strings from MK9. Make no mistake, Sonya in MKX will be as foreign to me as Cassie. Reptile is largely the same, Lao has many changes most notably being his teleport meaning Lao mains from MK9-X have to changes their playstyle day one, Kitana has a variation that looks similar to MK9 and even then there are differences as evidenced by how 16bit played the character on stream (I.E. not the way he was playing her in MK9), Mileena is reaaaalllly different, Cage appears largely the same with one variation. You name people that have similar special sets from MK9 but the game itself is different meaning those strategies and skillsets from the previous game will hardly carry over if at all. Scorpion they changed the input of spear which has been the same for decades. You're learning a few inputs that are universal for characters. Meaning any character will use the same inputs from the pool of special inputs (BF, DF, DB, DBF, etc). It's not hard or a hinderance or anything, so Sonya's arc kick is still DB4, so what? Takeda may have a DB4 special. What's the difference? You'll get used to it in hours if even that.
Edit: Wait, your entire point is that "you know the input for Kitana's fans so it's not like learning someone new", that's the argument? I learned all of Superman's specials in an hour. It's just memorizing a move, why limit playing a character because you have no prior knowledge of what buttons to input and they may not be there next game?
