I can't fully speak for everyone else in this thread but my roommate and I hope that we will be able to get something consistent going on out here. We have been a part of the community for a while now and are looking forward to building a competitive scene here.

Finding a venue is harder than I thought. If I had my own place I'd be down to host but I don't.

Hey guys, if we can't find a place soon I'm willing to hold casuals at my house. I would just need people to bring some spare consoles and monitors + cables. I would like to hold something before mkx comes out so we can meet 'n' greet.

So @smile how big is your place? And where is it located? We have a decent sized location out in Noe Valley in the city.

If the venue that @Jack Burton doesn't work out, we are going to have to have to have these sessions in homes/apartments.

We have two PS4's and a few tv's

Bay area guys are always welcomed in Sac for the weekly BLTB and I host bi-weekly on Saturdays. It seems like the only active NRS scene in Norcal is Sacramento. I hope MKX brings in a lot new players and keep them coming out.
Thanks so much for the invite! :)

I think it'll also be a good idea to do online tournaments. I've been doing a little research seeing how Alex Valle at Level|Up and Panda X Gaming do their online tourneys and it doesn't seem to be that difficult. It seemed to be just a matter of having a 2mb up connection speed, using Challonge for brackets and using a chat program to communicate between participants. If enough of us are on PS4 we can just stream from the system without needing additional equipment.

Would that be something the rest of you would like to pursue?

Let me put it this way. Once, a smash player held casuals at my house without telling anyone (including my parents lol) There were maybe 10 -12 people here and it worked out fine. As for where I am I live in Fremont fairly close to the bart station. It's a 15-20 min. walk or few minute bus ride (bus stop is right by my house too).
@Jack Burton We honestly could just do a koth.

Just checked the place out. Most space is for card/board games and they don't allow bringing things like consoles there. So we'd be stuck with the pc's which brings up 2 problems. The quality of the pc port, and needing 2 chairs per pc to play. Not much room for spectators and it's already loud. Streaming wouldn't work here.
Consesus: this isn't a good place for us.
I have a short video touring the place if anyone is interested

Video of the place would be cool. I had some friends who used to play Marvel there a few years ago but I guess things have changed.

Tagging everyone who I think lives in the bay (if you don't then you need to move here pronto). We need to figure out the days and times that work for everybody. Any day is fine for me right now but I'm an early bird so starting at 10:00pm and ending 5:00am the next day isn't going to work for me. I'd prefer the weekend. Friday or Saturday sounds best. What about you guys?

My schedule changes week to week but I tend to get Sunday's off. Other than that I'll need to know two weeks in advance. Evenings after 8pm works for online play and maybe an offline session here and there.

Would If I could but I reside in the East coast right now, I grew up in the 209 Mo-town. I support the West Coast scene hoping they dominate the FGC. Im also on PS4 and down for matches online.

Someone tagged me. Viewed the thread quickly. Here's what I can tell you.

Folsom Street Foundry's tournaments are run by Showdown entertainment group. They have two separate nights dedicated to Smash 4 and Smash Melee. Street Fighter is on Thursday nights. They haven't streamed games like Killer Instinct, BlazBlue or GGXrd but they have considered allocating space for players to bring their own setups. No one has taken them up on this from what I have seen. However, if big community faces and representatives can bring the numbers and show regular interest - maybe something can be worked out.

Smash tournaments are regularly capped and Street Fighter tournaments are reaching into the 60-70 man brackets weekly, so organization from you guys needs to be on point. It might be good to collaborate with interested parties in other local communities. This won't be easy and will take work, but Folsom Street Foundry is an amazing location and if people really want to foster a community - Foundry would be the place to do it.

There's rumors of South Town Arcade making a return - which is something we will find out more about in an announcement after NCR. Spooky or Art has mentioned in passing the possibility of sponsoring something big out here. This is big for the anime, old school, and Street Fighter community. This could also be potentially amazing for the MKX community - if you guys can show up in force and dominate the venue they open on a weekly basis, it could easily become accepted by their management and TOs.

Also, Round 1 will be opening in August with Capsule Entertainment's "CPSIV Joe" as the manager of Round 1's entertainment all things arcade side. CPSIV Joe has been responsible for the many, many years of weekly tournaments at Milpitas Golfland that have become a staple of the Street Fighter, and now the Smash community in the South Bay. Joe has had to cap Smash 4 entries out at MGL almost every week. Despite the fact that Milpitas Golfland had regularly been host to the South Bay's Street Fighter community - the stream time was allocated to the community with the most entrants. Smash rapidly took all stream time from the South Bay street fighter community's weekly. Think this can't be done with MKX? Don't sell yourselves short. Show up and support your scene and others will take note.

With all the hype that MKX will be bringing to the casual market - it's a prime opportunity to draw them into the competitive scene. Especially at an establishment like Round 1. Joe is in SoCal for training, but when he comes back - if you guys get hold of him and show some enthusiasm, I'm sure he'll work with you guys.

Venues are opening up all over the bay area and the Street Fighter community is rapidly expanding with things like PandoraHouse's Fight Club League and Showdown hosting very high profile tournaments weekly. If the MKX/NRS community can come together with a positive attitude, show up, and support their local scenes - these tournaments can be run side by side like they are in other places of the country.

I'm not going to be playing MKX with any level of seriousness for the forseeable future. I'm going to fool around with the title on launch day at Michaelangelo's place but I don't have the time to learn a new game right now. That said, I definitely don't have the time to be running around and coordinating things with TOs from other communities. It seems like MKX has a promising future. If you guys want to develop a strong scene you guys need to have a plan and come out swinging - otherwise the Bay Area will just continue to be the home of Marvel/SF4. To support you guys, I'll enter MKX if it's at an event I'm attending for USF4, but I'm not going to go out of my way for it like I did for Injustice.

I've met a lot of guys like myself who have been breaking into the street fighter community and leveling up out here who have told me that they played Injustice but they quit because there was nothing happening locally. Ultimately, this is going to come down to voting with your wallet. You'll have to cough up entry fees, venue fees, and the expenses associated with attending a weekly. This scares a lot of people away in my experience. Pick a venue and go HAM. Fuck it. Make your gas money back in money matches. Best of luck to you guys.

TL;DR show up and support your community, hope to see you guys out there! Also I don't fuck with TYM for anything more than a quick reference to KI streams so if you have any questions just DM me on twitter.

Hey guys!

It's looking like a venue for Mortal Kombat in San Francisco is becoming a reality! I've talked with the proprietor of Barcade. He's interested in having us run MK tournaments there. The days we're looking at are Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday, most likely in the evenings (especially if it's during the week). We've discussed having the tournament as a possible weekly there. Streaming is possible as they have wifi, but looking if we could get a wired connection. They have not only a an 85" TV one of their walls for customers but a huge dropdown screen where consoles can be plugged into for everyone's viewing pleasure behind the bar. What date the tournaments start is still up in the air, and may start a week after release, depending on logistics.

Unfortunately, since they will be serving alcohol there, it will be a 21 and over event. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please understand that details are still being worked out as I'm still in talks with the proprietor. With that, community input is important. Which of the days mentioned above work best? What times are good for you guys? How many are interested?

Any and all questions and feedback are welcome!

Also, if you'd like to help out with the organizing side of things or have other talents that'll make this tournament a success, please let me know in this thread.

It's about time that Mortal Kombat have its own scene in NorCal and I'm determined to make that a reality! Let's do this together!
