Just checking in. Has anyone found a good gathering place? I checked out an arcade in alameda but it was way to small. Anybody have better luck?

The only meeting places that people have suggested with potential are at players homes. Folsom Street Foundry looks to be a good place, but it seemed they control what games are played there and what is streamed. Even the Street Fighter guys do their own tournaments elsewhere as if Folsom isn't a permanent thing. A friend has suggested a new arcade in the Castro called Brewcade that I have to check out. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Hey guys!

I've mentioned before that I had to check another arcade here in SF to see if it would make a good spot to hold gatherings and perhaps tournaments.

Brewcade is an arcade/bar in the City. It's located in the Castro on Market street. They have old arcade games there like SVC Chaos and Marvel vs. Street Fighter. The games there are old and the selection of games there left something to be desired. I'd say there may be around 20+ games and are 50 cents to play. The rest of the place looks very modern and well kept. There's a bar there with a variety of beer on tap. The whole place looks very nice with the arcades looking almost a little out of place. There's quite a bit of space there to fit about 50 people there (it would get packed with more). There's a big flat screen on one of the walls there in one of the sections there.

You can set reservations at Brewcade. Here are the rules ( this and other info is available at there website at brewcadesf.com, and pics of the place is on their Yelp):

-guests have to be 21 years of age.
-20 person minimum to reserve. Must be timely - there's a quarter hour grace period.
-the reservation is confirmed once contracted by Brewcade, about a business day.
-outside food is welcome unless it involves catering - special arrangements must be made with Brewcade.
-private events requiring the whole venue are also available - 50 person minimum

The times are 3:00pm - 2am on weekdays and 2:00pm - 2am on weekends.

Now the bad news is it's another 21 and over spot since they serve alcohol there, so those younger than 21 won't be allowed ( I know Mfkaoz has reservation about venues only accepting 21 and over.)

The good news is there seems to be more leeway to what can happen there, such as what games are played and if we can stream it or not. One thing that could become an issue with Folsom Street Foundry is they seem to control what gets played there or not and what is streamed. I didn't get the impression we can stream what we want there and we had to go through their streamer to get games on Twitch. However, I'm not sure if they have Internet. I can check on that if you guys think this can be a possibility.

There's a Muni stop not too far away that can take you to Bart. I'm not sure how long the stop operates.

Brewcade contact info is: [email protected]

I don't know if money has to be put down for reservations or anything else like that so if you have questions or you guys want to inquire further there's there contact info or I'll find out.

I can post some pics I took of the place here once I figure out how to post pictures on TYM lol! But you can find pics on their Yelp.

If you have any questions post them here on this thread.

With MKX coming up quicker and quicker we really do need to solidify somewhere to meet up and the age restriction might just have to be a sacrifice we will need to make in order to get a scene going up here. You underage people can just get fake ID's anyway :DOGE

Lol! It's not like they don't do that already! Lol kappa

But I agree that we really need to lock down a spot. It'll also be good if more of the Bay Area peeps make their voice heard. Whatever the venue is having a list of at least 20 people and what time will work for everyone will be needed so we can ensure we can keep a venue.

I think I'll make a Bay Area MKX Facebook page soon to unite the Street Fighter guys who want to play but who aren't on TYM and the TYMers to get a list going. For now, anyone who knows others interested in offline MKX tourneys make it known in this thread.

I've been scouring the internet and I found a few places. I don't live near these places so I haven't been there in person. If anyone can scout out these places that be awesome. Even if you haven't feel free to share your opinion.
eudomonia - berkeley This place is right next to the downtown berkeley bart station as well as the college
endgame - oakland Also by a bart station (12 street) though this place seems to be more of a board game place
everything else is either in an unsuitable location (place in sunnyvale, and east "you will die" oakland) or doesn't seem like it work.

The place in Berkeley is mainly like a D&D arcade but when I walked in they seemed to have a bunch of setups for LAN parties. I'll have to go back and see what's up.
East Oakland is not somewhere we wanna have the scene at lol. Don't want people being scared to come through.

I believe Eudomonia is where a couple of my Marvel friends used to go to for meetups ( they called they're meetups "Freedomonia" ) I don't know if they're still active in that location.

I'll be honest, it would be cool if things were in SF, easier transportation with Muni, Bart and biking and if it's close to my job as much as possible since I work 45 hours a week would work better for my situation time wise since don't drive, lol!

Endgame isn't in east oakland. You think I would go to east oakland with how white I am? lol kaoz pls this place is plenty north from the danger zone.

Jumping on this a little late @HugeMcBigLarge and I live in Noe Valley and I can run out to somewhere that you guys find and get some information. The recurring problem is finding somewhere where we can have the young guys come play with us too. The two of us can host every now and then for those who would want to practice a bit more frequently and dont have to worry about commuting. Can we compose a list of locations that are even viable at this point? We have just a little over a month until the game drops. It would be nice to start getting together and maybe even get a stream up and running before release.

That sounds awesome, Folux182! Folsom Street Foundry and Brewcade, both in San Francisco, are the top places so far. I went to both places and scoped things out. You can read my impressions of them earlier in this thread. Glad to have you aboard! :)

Hey guys! I've made a Facebook page called "NorCal MKX" for us. Feel free to subscribe to it :) If you feel that would be more convenient to have discussions there or would some of you think Skype or whatever would be better? Let me know.

So for the places I've checked out already, should I try to see if I can get a spot? Time is short so I'd like to get the ball rolling on that. Also, should we need a stream station together, should we just stream from the PS4 and get a camera and some headsets together till we get something better together?

Has anyone found more possibilities for a venue?

Just thought I'd bump da thread to keep things poppin' ;)

I might be able to check out the place in old oakland I mentioned earlier. If I do I'll post in here about it. As far as streaming goes @mfkaoz would know better than me. @Jack Burton it would be best if you could find out what available times they have. Then everyone can pitch in what's best for them and try to find a good compromise.

Just checked out the place, it's nice. Neighborhood is good. I talked to the cashier and while he said they don't do video games, he had second thoughts when I told him we could supply the tv's, console, etc. he gave me a card so I can contact someone higher up. There wasn't a whole lot of space ( for us ) but I found a few good spots that would work. Considering our scene is only a few people I don't think space will be an issue.
I got a video of the venue that I'll post late
edit: here's the video, tell me what you guys think.

Just got an email back from endgame, it's a no-go unfortunately.
I got an email myself from Folsom Street Foundry and unless I rent the whole building out for a few thousand dollars, or if they decide to do their own MKX tournament then it's a no-go :(

Bay area guys are always welcomed in Sac for the weekly BLTB and I host bi-weekly on Saturdays. It seems like the only active NRS scene in Norcal is Sacramento. I hope MKX brings in a lot new players and keep them coming out.

I'd love to make it out to Sac but it's too far for me :(
