Their initial plan; let the fight between Earthrealm warriors and Shao Kahn weaken Earthrealm's defence due to death of their protectors and also resulting in the death of Shao Kahn, making room for the Netherrealm invasion of Earthrealm. (They wanted Earthrealm warriors and Shao Kahn out of the way for this).

They then, however, lose the Netherrealm war and realise that Earthrealm's defences weren't weak enough/their attack wasn't strong enough.

They need the ultimate warrior on their side.

Enter Shao Kahn.

Did you not play MK9? Quan Chi's ending talks about how he beats Shao Kahn, resurrects Shinnok, then Shinnok turns on Quan, but Quan apparently anticipates this and resurrects Shao Kahn to kill Shinnok. Lol hella convoluted but that's MK for you.

Haha it's just a prediction based on the information we've been given.
Boon saying that it'll be a fun, returning character that not many people will see coming. Shao Kahn fits that as not many people would see it coming after the MK9 ending.
We know Shao Kahn's soul is still around, in Ermac.
We see his hammer and armour in this experimental/dark magic room with different skeletons in bottles and that monster man that's under-formed in the middle.

I'd rather speculate on the story than debate about NRS' marketing scheme anyway.

Someone quick make copies of the video, so when the game comes out and everyone gets DESTROYED by zoning kitana and everything safe on block, to have a reminder that 16 bit tested this character for months, playing daily, and still it came out that way :p :16Bit

Also I've been an MK fan for a very long time, but I'm still not preordering because I simply cannot support WB/NRS's business strategy with MKX. There's something very shitty about releasing info about 4 characters, then offering a day1 DLC (a full character! Almost competely unheard of even in this day of shitting marketing gimmicks) for preorders without 1) even showing you what the DLC is (no goro gameplay at all, no indication of whether online will be nothing but goro/boss mirrors, etc.) and 2) without showing even a quarter of the roster yet. Then to jack up the prices of the DLC season one pass while trying to rename it to allow for more "post-season" content is just ridiculous.

There are also ppl on this site and in twitch chats lobbying for goro to be allowed in tournaments day 1. If goro were a fun bonus then I'd have no problem with it, but to pressure tournament players to preorder out of fear is a really shitty tactic.

I have been a loyal Midway/NRS customer since MK1 in the arcade and should not be "thanked" for that by being bent over and fucked by marketing gimmicks.

But you don't have to pre-order now and A) On the last stream, they did say Goro gameplay is coming and B) they have revealed over a quarter of the roster.

I'm talking about when they first introduced the day1 DLC, obviously not as of today. Also thanks for reminding me that I don't have to preorder today; super helpful.

I would almost be willing to believe that if NRS put a turd in a box some of you would defend it and pre-order the box for $60.

Yes everyone knows you don't "have to buy it". Yes you don't have to preorder. Yes most likely the majority of people on this site as myself will buy it regardless. Yet all of that is irrelevant to the point some guys are making.


1) I don't think I've ever seen a game where they told you what a Day1 DLC was, showed you images and even the character on the select screen, and yet still don't show what you'll be getting with repeated responses about "soon". It puts you in a situation that if you don't pre-order who knows when or how you get Goro? Have they said how much he'll cost? When he'll be available to non pre-orders? Anything? No. Now one can say that "they'll tell us eventually" but when is that? If they weren't gonna show him why announce the DLC MONTHS AGO? No one does this and with good reason not to. For Example, when Bruce Lee was a Day1 DLC for UFC, they let you know you could pay $5.99 without a pre-order or defeat the entire career to unlock him while also showing you clips of him in action. So I'll it again. They announced DLC, months ago, showed you who it was, showed you they're available, while at the same time showing you nothing at all. First time I've EVER seen that happen in ANY game. But maybe someone can think of that one random time it's happened out of the other 99 it doesn't. That is absurd and it still amazes me some people are defending this.

2) There's 7 weeks left and half the roster is still "hidden" from us. No info on the story. No info on online except the unexplained factions. Etc etc. Like others have said I actually want to SEE what I'm buying. I am buying it because I personally expect the game to be amazing, but that doesn't mean this couldn't be better handled. I don't know whether some people only play NRS games exclusively but that is not the norm. Hell even Injustice had that character tournament revealing new characters and showing off their moves in acceptable levels of gameplay every week. Not scrubby play being our one and only means of seeing gameplay. The Kano/Raiden/QC reveals need to come back over what they're doing now. But instead they rather act like it's too secret to do or say anything like "oh no don't place it over Reptile. Oh noooo don't!". Lol. Like seriously? What they're doing now is a tremendous step backwards and mixes massive hype with massive aggravation.

These points I agree with. I'm not gonna keep going on, but those are two major points I think people are not grasping because their NRS shades are too thick for whatever reason. They may not "owe us" anything until right before release, but we don't "owe" them anything either when we're the ones shelling out $60, + future DLC packs, + comic purchases. If anything, we are "owed" a certain level of information on the product we are investing in, which I'm sure we'll get as it draws closer, but don't act like the way they are doing it isn't going to rub some people the wrong way.

Um can u imagine how things will be if the whole roster is revealed right now, it will be mayhem because people will be mad their character didn't get in and not pre-order the game. Instead of one person being mad, it will be be hell of a lot more.

This statement really invalidates the entire rest of your post. Everyone already hows how to fight this cruel unfair marketing but no one will and WB knows it. Until people take actual legitimate action all this "outrage" is completely irrelevant.
