Just felt like MVC2 was less braindead in its touch of death damage. I won't deny you that it has less viable teams. 8 way air dash / flight cancel stuff broke that game hard. There is a reason Storm/Magneto/Sentinel were called team 10 more years. If you weren't playing them you'd occassionally see the cl0ckwork team of strider doom and some scattered takes of Cable, Spiral or Captain Commando players. In that game though assists worked a bit differently, air combos weren't such an issue and xfactor was a non factor which is why as busted as it was it felt more enjoyable to me than MVC3. At least in MVC2 you needed more skill to get that damage.
Marvel 2 becomes a 1 player game in the neutral. You literally cannot move at all vs top teams. They lock you down.

Marvel 3 becomes a 1 player game in the combos. You literally cannot do anything if you guess wrong because you're watching a 45 second combo till death.

But yes, I'll agree that Marvel 2 doesnt have ToD damage--which is nice. Both games are incredibly fun at a "I know a couple of combos, I understand this game, I'm gonna pick some characters I like" level. Get too far above that and it's very limited.

Yeah...which is why we all know what the real true choice for best vs game was. CVS2 :D
Okay...I'll admit in spite of its flaws I'm a much bigger mark for TvC than CVS2, and its reaaaaaaaaaaaally busted. Sometimes you just like the roster and strategies. When I put it that way...well I guess it explains why folks followed any of these games regardless of how the high level meta evolved. Sometimes you just wanna take your guys and watch em work. Its not always a matter of if a game is the best...just if its the one you enjoy playing.

Except that's not true at all for either game, yeah number of characters shrink but the characters that are viable are capable of so fucking much you don't really need the rest of the cast & they can do it anyway. The number of options & strategies you got to use with the Top 4 in MVC2 was so much more than what you got with most other teams & characters outside of like Spiral & Strider teams. The game wasn't limited at all.

I miss folks rocking Iceman and thinking he was top tier due to his chip damage immunity lol.
