What's new

Shoehorned teleports need to go.

A couple things...

When did Scorpion become... "a ghost"? Isn't he referred to as a Hell Spawn? Not sure that that is the same thing...

And if we're talking about making sense...

Why can Johnny Cage, a supposedly normal person, throw random green goo balls from his hands? Or Jax or Sonya... throwing random energy blasts with their hands? And other than maybe sektor... all the teleports you mentioned can be made to sort of make sense. I mean, Rain manipulates water, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could turn into it and reform where he wanted... or ermac using his telekinesis to lift himself somewhere else (like his round win pose)

Seems like an odd thing to complain about.

What we should complain about is having safe teles. Lose that shit ;)

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
no worry at all regarding MK teleport

in fact not all of them are that useful as "evasive" tool; some with pure offensive tracking features, as for example Skarlet, Mileena and Scorpion one, are good only as part of combos, and cannot be used abusively when isolated due the high risk to turn predictable .... so ....

I think the only one that really will be dangerous using teleports as deadly strategy and tactics, probably, gonna be Raiden, in MKX ..... since we already noticed in his MKX gameplay video.

THIS. Also black Adam and shazam. I mean visually
Black Adam and Sinestro are fucking floating. Is an air dash really out of the question?
Black Adam originally had one before NRS decided he wasn't allowed to have tools.

Johnny Cage has shadow powers that come from his descendants. Sonya shoots the energy blast from some weapon on her wrist, maybe Jax does too. And Sektor... science.

I don't think Mkx will have excessive teleports. They surely identified that in Mk9 so hopefully they'll make it more scarce. It should be a question of character design. In Mk9 they used it for balance to some extent which was a compromise on the artistic side and also took away from gameplay.

All characters in Mk9 had fireballs/projectiles and many had teleports. They also had roughly the same height and build. I expect all these things to be different in Mkx. But I don't expect everything to be perfect. It's an iterative process.

Try to shatter a chunk of well frozen meat. Just saying.
It shatters anyway, well frozen meat is just another block of ice.

Martial Artists can shatter multiple ice blocks in tournaments with raw strengh or skill (track the weak point in the to cause a domino effect), and if you compare a regular MArtist with sub you can clearly see that sub does it with no problem. Besides he could do that in mythologies with a uppercut or roundhouse.

I wouldn't even argue the validity of something shattering when its frozen when Sub's freeze ignores gravity. Lets complain about that. :DOGE

I don't actually play these games
I think the reason a lot of the characters had teleports in MK9 was residue from old mk games, and they had so many in the old mk games because, well it's cool brah. Although that's the story for a lot of moves. I would like them to cut down the tele fat a little. Although not because of OPS reasons.

Frozen water isn't the same as frozen meat, just so you know. That's why at factories allowing blocks of raw meat to thaw a bit (for whatever reason, from local power fault to regular sloppiness) and then freeze it again is considered major screwup - even industrial loaders are powerless to separate them afterwards, and you'll have to thaw it again - by then it's a major blow to material's quality.

Anyways, what I'm saying that it's a bad example of what should logically happen, and indeed, not that people care.

I still don't think it's a good design to give moves to characters that make no sense for them to have if you go by their theme. If you have regular cop in your cast and suddenly he can teleport, it's weird as entire character was supposed to represent normal guy caught in crossfire, which he can't achieve if he starts doing mystical shit. Entire character motif goes to hell. IMO the only reason people here say that they don't care is because game designers aren't exactly known for going full retard by now, and people assume they won't. It was never about realism, obviously, but about theme, something that NRS tend to keep most of the time.

blabla... ah fuck it, let me skip this and go straight to the point

look dude, Its fucking sub-zero in a fucking fantasy fucking world, who that fuck cares? its a fucking video game.

Lol, shit, why are we even discussing this? someone already came up with the best explanation this thread could have.

Here's your reasons:

Cyblax: has magical powers. Failing that, has magical smoke bombs.
Cyrax: has magical powers and/or a robot body
Ermac: has magical powers
Freddy: has magical powers
Kung Lau: has magical powers
Liu Kang: has magical powers (his parry has a teleport)
Mileena: has magical powers
Noob: has magical powers
Quan Chi: has magical powers
Raiden: has magical powers
Rain: has magical powers
Scorpion: has magical powers
Sektor (all): has magical powers. Robot version just has a fancier effect
Skarlet: has magical powers
Smoke: has magical powers

Best part of your last post :D

Ermac is composed of souls, they can easily deform and form again at will so it works. Also I look at Ermac as some sort of a Sorcerer of sorts.

I'm gonna make this skill gap... disappear.
While I agree with the sentiment, I feel like you can almost always rationalize a reason why a character would be able to teleport with a give powerset, or even just by shrugging and saying "It's MK.". You can see that pretty clearly just by some of the people opposing the OP throughout the thread. Especially with variations and such now, I have a feeling a lot of people are going to have a teleport option.
