This to me is the most toxic of all attitudes. It's honestly sickening. It reminds me of my 14 (young and prepubescent) year old self in 2009, as a beginning Rose player in SF4.
And this is my good transition to why I think the NRS community cannot advance unless they get over it.
So in 2009, I was a Rose player that only played online because I was 14 and couldn't go to local tournament let alone travel. I had a high online Rose rank though and people who played me online thought I was the best, but of course, Luffy (2014 EVO champion) was winning all the french tournaments and beating Daigo and was regarded as the best Rose, as he is. I simply refused to let it rock and I argued about the being the best Rose player, even when I had little results. As time passed, I got more and more results, and I still argued myself the best while Luffy was still winning the french tournaments. I hid all my tech and I had a lot of sick shit with Rose orbs that no other Rose did or knew and I didn't share with anyone because I wanted to only use to it myself. That's even more toxic, because our character couldn't advance and all the Rose players were not in good standing with one another.
But one day, I realized that being friends with the other Rose players and being friends with Luffy (we talk strats all the time) is the best, and it doesn't matter who is better, because we both benefit from the mutual relationship, he shares tactics with me and I share tactics with him. He WON EVO, I got 13th. It doesn't take anything away from me that he won, and my placing is nothing to scoff at. I'm still one of the best players in North America and he just got me that one tournament. We don't care who is better, we just get along, and no other Rose player cares who is better, and the only people who are using this discreprancy in placement are idiot stream monsters, that I shouldn't even let bug me.
But if all we care about is being the best with a character, then you won't advance as a tournament player and the community fails to advance because more likely than not, you're gonna hide something that 'separates' you as a player, which honestly, you shouldn't be hiding your tech because if you give tech to someone else, they will only find new ideas in terms of tech that they'd be willing to share with you.
But too bad the NRS community is unfortunately stuck in the vortex. Just the other day, there was an argument about best Wonder Woman, and I didn't even entertain it, I just gave props, because honestly, who cares? There should be more than one good player for your character so there will be things to be found.
If all you care about is affirmation to become the best with a character, then you're in the FGC for the wrong reason.
BTW @
AK Pig Of The Hut I play Street Fighter for different reasons then the ones you listed
