Is it over? On the final KTP Slips predicted that results would stabilize and the era of inconsistency and upsets would end. This seems to be happening. Let's compare the top 8's of UFGT and MLG. Theo, Whiteboi, Forever King and myself all made top 8 at both events. That's half the top 8! FilipinoMan and Carl placed at UFGT but didn't at MLG. However it's not like they got blown up, they were still in the MLG top 16. Pig was the opposite. He placed top 16 at UFGT and moved up to top 8 at UFGT. We are seeing more consistent results and less crazy upsets. They still happen(Red Reaper defeating DJT) but that's always going to be the case. There was so much talk about the nature of 50/50 mixups and interactables causing randomness but that isn't supported by the current results.
Let's discuss this.
Is it because we've moved to 3/5?
Is it because players are leveling up, both in fundamentals and match up knowledge, and the cream is rising to the top?
Are the top tier taking over?
There's two more talking points I want to address. We always hear from certain critics that "this game has no footsies" or "this game takes no fundamentals" yet has anyone noticed more and more the players with strong footsies are the most consistent?
There was so much talk of how interactables and the nature of the 50/50 offense made the game random but that's clearly not showing in recent results.
