What's new

Who wants to see all new characters?

I have to strongly disagree. Tanya, Reiko, tai, fujin were amazing characters. Then you got characters like frost, kenshi, Serena that were really good also.
I felt that most of the MK4 cast was "eh" level. I see lots of potential if they bring them back now, but at the time, and in hindsight, they're mostly boring. I'll give you frost/kenshi/serena though, but compared to everything else that was added during the DA-Armageddon era, that's not exactly a good track record.

Oh right because MK2 was ALL NEW and didn't bring any MK1 characters back.... wtf are you talking about?
With your kind of thinking we should have never used any MK character for more than one game. Every single game would be "all new" characters.
That's what the OP said. "ALL NEW" - aka zero old characters.

I don't want zero old characters. I want both new and old characters. A balanced mix of both.
My bad, i was under the impression that you wanted zero new characters. the op stated that he wanted many new fighters and i took that as a 50/50 type ratio. i didnt pay to much attention to the thread title.

Apparently MKX will have around 32 characters at launch from an Ed Boon interview. If that's the case, I think it would be fair if 12 more characters returned from MK9, 8 characters from MK4, MKDA, and MKD were added, and then there were 6 more brand new characters.

TO SUM IT UP, 14 CHARACTERS FROM MK9, 8 CHARACTERS FROM MK4/MKDA/MKD, AND 10 BRAND NEW CHARACTERS.
MK9:
Ermac
Reptile
Mileena
Smoke (Returns as an Enenra serving, possibly serving Quan Chi)
Baraka
Kano
Raiden
Kintaro(Replaces Sheeva as the playable Shokan)
Quan Chi
Rain
Kenshi
Skarlet

MK4/MKDA/MKD:
Reiko
Shinnok
Tanya
Mavado
Bo' Rai Cho
Nitara
Ashrah
Shukinko

DLC:
Fujin
Kai
Li Mei
Hotaru
Onaga
Havik

Six new characters? Which means all we got left to see now is merely two new characters?

No, thanks. Would be a huge disappointment for me.

Sorry, I meant 6 more new characters IN ADDITION to the 4 that have been revealed to a total of TEN new characters.

Mmh. Personally, though, I would rather see at least 50% of new characters in this game. Since Boon mentioned this game will have the most new characters of any MK, I hold hope!

I would too, but at the same time it'll really hurt the chances that Reptile and a playable Kintaro will be in MKX. If those two don't make it, I have to hope there will be a badass beast character to make up for no Reptile or Kintaro(Bug Lady does NOT count).

Hope that they will dont make more than 10 new because i still want see many old chars, and i think that kabal and sheeva will be not present in mkx

If you do ALL new characters... you'd be alienating a huge portion of your dedicated MK fanbase. It could bring in new blood for sure, but it just wouldn't be MK without a few staple characters.

But it's whatever, my character is already in... so I don't care really. lol

I would like to see Shang back just to see what they could do with him on next gen consoles. Raiden as well.

So this is why I feel it's very refreshing to see brand new characters (especially since so far they seem to be done right), and I'm not gonna lie, I'll be disappointed if there's too many of the old characters, because.... when I want to play as Raiden or Shang Tsung or Kung Lao etc, I can just play MK9. Or any other MK game.
The thing is... in a new (especially next gen version) game they can make those same characters look, feel, and play VASTLY different from their MK9 counterparts if they so choose... you don't need 22 new characters to do that.

And you yourself pointed out that had MK9 not come out you would be very confused as to what MK is. Would you want the 3D era to happen to MK all over again? I, for one, would not.

And as for the new characters shown saw for looking like they are done right... that's all subjective. Personally, I don't like D'Vorah or Ferra/Torr ... Cassie is meh. The only that I even really like is Kotal Kahn.

I say 50/50 at most is what the game should be.

My ideal is that there are a handful of returning characters. Obviously Sub-Zero and Scorpion will return. I think Raiden should/will return. For plot reasons I assume Quan Chi will return and Shinnok will return as a playable character again. If Sub-Zero and Scorpion come back I think it is only fair to bring back Kitana and Mileena. Other than that... I'm fine with new characters. I don't mind seeing SOME descendants like Cassie Cage... but from the standpoint of wanting to sell a lot of copies of the game AND draw interest from the FGC I think we need to use SF3 and SC5 as cautionary tales. SF3 is an excellent game but wasn't commercially successful because there weren't many returning characters. Part of SF4's success was seeing all of the classic characters again. SC5's attempt at using a lot of descendants also didn't seem to work and the response I heard most was "Why not just let me use XXX character instead?" *cough* Taki no Natsu *cough* People get attached to characters and it's part of what brings them back. But I think keeping the mainstays and a few essentials for story purposes should be enough.
