Bosnia played much better than expected vs Argentina. Argentina was not impressive by any means, and in all honestly I think they're lucky to get by with 2 goals here. An own goal and a great run by Messi with a deflection that brought the ball just inside to hit the post. I dunno, I think as soon as Argentina face a veteran team they'll get knocked out.

Not to take anything away from Bosnia (they could well have pulled it back) but that certainly wasn't a vote of confidence from the Argies.

Argentina vs Bosina & Herzegovina is about to kick off, exactly midnight my time, and even though I have to go to work tomorrow morning I'm staying up to support B&H in their World Cup debut. I'm sure many Croats will do the same.

Go Bosnia & Herzegovina! (I do like Argentina as well, so I'm very excited about the match)
Well at least we're not in Russia's shoes, they have to stay up until 2AM for their first match, and that's just westernmost-Russia. LOL.

nah, that was a 7 3 match upin Argentina's favor. That own goal was like dropping a Cyrax combo when your opponent has 25% health though. Stil. I figured something like this would turn up. DiMaria is more of a player that likes to work in the back rather then being in the frontlines. That's why he was having a lot of trouble. And Messi was worrying too much about making a statement and took everything in his sholders.

Anyone excited for tomorrow's game? Portugal vs Germany, I'm hype as hell!
Yessir. There's also USA's first game against their masters Ghana (who have effectively eliminated them from the last two World Cups), not sure sure if I'll stay up for that one, but if not, I'll be very surprised if this thread hasn't imploded overnight.

Haha yeah tomorrow's games are really hype. I'm hoping USA wins, always good to support my neighbor country.

A right winger plays as an attacking midfielder likes to work in the back? He did what was required of him, he was all over the pitch covering both ends. Just some awful touches here and there, and lost a bit of possession.
Messi isn't surrounded by Xavi, Ineista at national team, of course he has to do a lot of work by himself. Usually at Barca, its some fancy 1 2 then goal right after, he's way too comfortable with that system Pep developed.

Argentina is showing weakness in possession and that is caused by a somewhat unimaginative midfield. BiH's first half pressure not only threw them off balance, but also exposed just how unstable that final four can be.

What about Chiellini on the left band, what was the deal with it? Could someone explain me why Prandelli made that choice? What was the advantage of Chiellini in that position instead of being a central back? O know Italy won by I thought that was a painfully wrong decision. What do you think?

De Sciglio is injured, Prandelli made the call. That's why they were going hard on the right hand side to force the play on that side. He was lucky to not get caught in possession. Once Italy got their 2nd goal, it's a bit too late for England to exploit the space behind Chiellini, cuz that midfield trio now shifts horizontally, either help out Chiellini or cover the space behind Darmian. It's almost impossible to break them down from there then.

De Sciglio is injured, ...
But why he didn't put someone else? I mean it was clear that he wasn't comfortable, I think there has to be a best substitute for Sciglio than Chiellini. I agree about Italy being lucky that England didn't caught him with the ball.

Predictions for tomorrow:
Germany vs Portugal = 3 - 1
Ghana vs USA = 1 - 2
Iran vs Nigeria = 1 - 0

They don't have adequate LBs in that squad. Italy's defenders can play out of position quite easily. Plus, Cheillini is a seasoned DF.

Edit. Abate plays as RB, Bonucci is a CB. There are no more DF left.

I think tomorrow's main games should be draws normally, but given the circumstances...

Germany 1-2 Portugal
USA 2-1 Ghana
Nigeria 2-0 Iran

Man, I think Prandelli should have called at least one additional LB because Chiellini looked totally outplaced.

haha, a tactically sound team like Italy is going to take some serious effort to break.
I don't know man, if Prandelli keeps Chiellini in the left band then it will hurt eventually, he looked really frightened of moving forward or even take the ball, I mean it is like they played with one man less sort of. But Prandelli is really a good coach so I expect good matches from him, it's just that I can't comprehend Chiellini as a LB as a good tactical decision.

I think that decision is made because Prandelli knows how pacey that England's fowards can be, defensively it was a 4-4-2, offensively it was 4-3-3. Either way that midfield is packed, hard to go through and he needs 4 defenders behind 4 midfielders.

I think whatever the formation Prandelli chooses, Chiellini isn't a LB at all, that was very clear for me, but who knows, I'm sure he has something in mind, it's just I can't get it.
