What do you look for in a character

What I want in a character:

1) Good mobility
2) Lots of setups
3) Likes: beach vacations, drinking whiskey with Dr. Pepper, dogs, South Park, and american football
4) Dislikes: safe wakeups, cats, cats with safe-wakeups
5) Isn't a "well rounded" character that is good both zoning and rushdown. A character without weaknesses is a boring character
6) Must be evil...EVIL....EEEEEEEVVVVIIIIIIIIL

From an aesthetic stance, I like strong and elegant females. From a play-style stance, I like characters who have fluid combos and are easy to move around the arena with (that's regardless of gender...), so I guess it's obvious why I'd like Kitana a lot.

That seems to be the theme for me, anyway. My go to guys were Ermac and Ares, and they both would take out half of your health bar if they hit ya.

Although, if Ermac's in MKX and hits like a bitch, I'll try and stay loyal to him. Just depends on how he plays (again, assuming he's in). The way he played in MK9 appealed to me, so yeah.

Honestly, I pick whatever character look cool and if I feel I can dance with him(never a female character) we're partners for lyfe!

-Means of Obtaining Meter (not exactly by spamming, chip is also a valid option if they have good normals. But willing to zone for it too.)
-Either armor or command grab. Shit gets two dimensional otherwise if you lack the mobility to get in/out of your opponent's pressure. Get figured out real quick.
-Something a little more on the defensive patient side. Playing with so many aggressive and highly skilled players early on in the development of my style has turned me into a natural fetal position kind of player. I like to turtle up and punish them for their mistakes if they make any.

Hoping for Sub-Zero to have these things, perhaps with the unbreakable stance or something. Will probably start with clone though.

That's about right.
I try to find characters with fast/forward advancing combo starters for whiff punishing combined with a strong projectile and a strong long range anti air.

has to look cool (not bland), good or neutral alignment (there are exceptions) and be well rounded (no pure zoner, rushdown etc., also not too fast or slow).

examples of mains:

Raiden, Smoke (MK 9)
Raven (INJ)
Kage (VF 5)

Things I look for but aren't mandatory:
-Command grabs/grapples
-Large hitbox high damage attacks
-Slow but rewarding attacks and movement
-Ways of dealing with zoning
-Armored moves

Armor, grappling, chain-throws, brawling, gigantism, not overly complicated execution, etc.

I prefer playing as the big bad mother-effers with whom the mere thought of me getting in on my opponents terrifies them. I don't feel NRS really nailed that whole Zangief archetype until Injustice (where I mained as many of them as I could with Bane, Doomsday, and Grundy) so I'm hoping they carry it over well to MKX. So far Kotal Kahn and Torr have potential, but here's hoping for Goro!

I look for:
- Characters that can zipline through zoning and severely punish with a single touch (i.e. Smoke and pre-patch Black Adam).
- Characters with awesome defensive and spacing tools (Smoke Away/Forward, Shake, Black Adam's old backdash and divekick, etc).
- Characters with great advancing moves that are neutral on block or give advantage (Smoke's B23, Smoke's d4, Black Adam's B2 and old divekick).
- Characters that can win matches by just throwing projectiles (i.e. Freddy, Kenshi, and pre-patch Deathstroke).

So basically, characters that can run away the entire match and auto-kill the minute the opponent makes a mistake. Alternatively, characters that keep the opponents away with bullet hell-status projectiles.

I usually naturally gravitate to obscure, weird or underused characters regardless of playstyle or tier placing:

MK9: Stryker/Jade
Tekken Tag 2: Zafina/Raven
Injustice: Hawkgirl/Martian Manhunter
Persona 4 Arena: Naoto and Yousuke
Soul Calibur 5: Viola
Ultra: Rolento

So I end up playing guy/girl teams almost always without really planning on it and counterzoners. I love mobility characters with good footsies and like playing hit and run/safely so a character like Hawkgirl is perfect for how I like to play. I'm open to playing rushdown, zoning, footsies or counterzoning as long as the character is fun and catches my interests from a physical aesthetic, playstyle perspective and so forth.

I like characters with good mobility. That's my number one. Preferably evil, with move sets that look cool. With a rush down mind set. Although I dont mind sore balanced character. Mk9 I was Cage and in injustice Im DD.
