http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/diminishing returnsIt's funny you bring SFIV into conversation since it is exactly the opposite of what MKX seems to be. Every iteration of SFIV keeps the core game mechanics and engine while adding new elements carefully and slowly that compliment said mechanics.
Right, and wtf is wrong with that? I didn't like RE operation raccoon city because it was really just another shooter with the RE brand slapped on. I don't like other fighters because I dont like their presentation, how they play, or both. I like the MK mechanics. The super jumps are interactable jumps.
My issue is that these guys play MK9, started on MK9, and don't really touch much else if at all...and when the next game doesn't appear to be exactly what they want (which is MK9 part deux), they are up in arms over it because it's not the same. Anything not close to MK9 is "not MK enough" for them.
I'm well aware the bottom line comes first for any business. Then the make certain compromises to satisfy us, the FGC.http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/diminishing returns
SF, the series as a whole, is its own subcultural in-joke by having Super Hyper Ultra Edition Turbos for iterations that change very little to people that weren't hardcore fans. SFIV is also a series that went from over 3M in sales for Vanilla to around 700K for AE2012
Anyone want to wager if MKX is going to have a 25% sales dropoff with their disappointingly revamped graphics and gameplay, down from MK9's 4M? Anyone? And that's completely ignoring the fact that the game is called MKX. Last I checked, SF4 wasn't an iteration of SF3.
Call me crazy, but in 2016, I want to be playing something new, not a 2-year old update of a game that came out in 2008
But was that the only mechanic they added? I think that's part of the reaction here, it seems like a lot of change at once instead of slower evolution over time. That's one thing I was hoping for on mk9, smaller additions to each game instead of each new one basically playing in a totally different way. it'd be nice not to have to start over every release of MK.So, you wanted MKX to play exactly like MK9? You should of known that wasn't going to happen. Every fighting game adds something new to each installment. SF threw out focus attacks, now red focus. It's not a big deal.
Agreed, but there's that group of us that have been around since the arcade days that still played after UMK3, but didn't enjoy the game hardly at all until Midway sold off the rights to the series and MK9 was made. All the game were different, but more than half of them stunk on ice. It's because people who started on mk9 are noobs to the series and don't yet realize that every mk game is different.
MK1-4 play similar, as do MK5-7, and MK8-10 do as well. What is so nightmarishly different between MK9 and MKX?But was that the only mechanic they added? Hey admins, can we get a special badge or sig for people like this so after release when we run into them online we can shame them?I just watched the interview with BOON showing extended gameplay, xrays, fatals n shit, and it doesnt look terrible guys.. but its def not as cool as mk9. just my opinion remember.
interesting things ED was talking about,
-tons of new characters...he wants us asking about them, who are they ? i think at least half are totally new.. that leaves 12 spots from all other mk games... tough roster to make. ...RIP jade
-25yrs in the future... not going back in time, which would allow killed off peeps to come back, so leaves most out from mk9, quan, raiden, mileena, raiden who i think will be the only ones 2 make it.
- remember when boon said "wouldn't you want to wait till 2017 for a REAL mk game?" could be something back to basics like mk9 .
i wont buy this game, & wont get into this game unless raiden, shang, jade, or smoke is in. thats it, sorry. im 31, ive played most fighting games, and i will probally stop with mk9. which was very close to a perfect fighting style that is still simple, and not over complicated. RIP kitana
You made a post to bitch about me bitching. Kill yourselfJust stop bitching! if you don't like it gud for you, but don't come here trying to kill everyone else's hype GTFO be mad and salty by yourself.
Mk4 didn't play like the previous 3, not sure how it could since it was 3d and added weapons. mk3 was fairly similar to the previous two but I didn't like it nearly as much because they changes made seemed like change for the sake of it. even characters from 2 had completely different movesets than they did in 2 (same going to 2 as well).MK1-4 play similar, as do MK5-7, and MK8-10 do as well. What is so nightmarishly different between MK9 and MKX?
Ya I get all that, and all I'm saying is that they didn't exactly do well these past 20 years, going bankrupt and all, so maybe they should be trying a more Capcon like approach. NRS shouldn't squander the second chance WB gave them by repeating past mistakes.@aj1701,
MK9 was designed from inception to be the reach around all the old fans had been begging for, but no precedent was ever set that they were just going to sit back and Capcom out upgrades for the rest of eternity. I get that you don't like what you're seeing, but lets not pretend that this isn't exactly what they've done over and over and over for 20 years. Honestly, I don't see what "bad past" they're in danger of repeating except the part where they've made several blockbuster fighting game titles in a row.
uhm, the reason MK9 exists is because NRS was the only functioning part of Midway. By the end it was literally the only profitable IP. NRS has never made an unsuccessful game.Ya I get all that, and all I'm saying is that they didn't exactly do well these past 20 years, going bankrupt and all, so maybe they should be trying a more Capcon like approach. WB bought the bankrupt midway to get MK for a steal and kept some of the employees to form NRS to develop it. NRS and MK9 exist because WB bailed them out.uhm, the reason MK9 exists is because NRS was the only functioning part of Midway. By the end it was literally the only profitable IP. Absolutely NO, I like this voice and prefer the way he speaks over the way used in MK9 (if they are the same of course). ....Isn't this Shao Kahn voice getting old ?
Except for the interactables they kept the enhanced specials, breakers, x-rays, dashes, fatalities, block button, 2 rounds, etc. I felt the same but c'mon, maybe we should give it a try, lets hear opinions from people that have the chance to test the game at E3.No, not by a long shot.

Every iteration of SFIV keeps the core game mechanics and engine while adding new elements carefully and slowly that compliment said mechanics. MKX looks to be a repeat of what happened between MK II and MK3: a completely new game.
I'm talking about having a series: think Vampire Hunter, SF Zero/Alpha, SFIII, old VS series. Games series with installments that felt connected to each other, yet brought new elements to maintain a fresh and exciting experience.
Completely agree I love how the game is evolving, not stuck in past glories but daring to improve. Thats something i hate about SF4, SF3 already moved all the story forward, and then, they released SF4 just as a fanservice to old fans. MKX feels better, even darker than before, and definetely looking to the krazy things that happened in the 25 span of time from MK9 to X.http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/diminishing returns
