Tekken 6 and HDR will be run on the store's LCD TV's, SF4 and SF3 will be run on CRT televisions.

Also if anyone is willing to bring their PS3 to this we would greatly appreciate it! The store only has one PS3 to use so we would need a few more for Tekken 6. Also if anyone is willing to bring anything else to help out from Systems to games to CRT televisions it would be greatly appreciated!

If I forgot to mention anything or you have any questions or concerns just let me know so I can clarify things. Thanks and I hope to see you all there!

Good luck...

Just FYI, P(N)T Tv's suck. I hosted an MKvsDC tournament at one, and attended a SFIV online national tourney, and the TV's had the worst delay ever.

If I remember correctly, they're bringing CRT's for the tournament. HDR and Tekken 6 will be on HDTV's but everything else will be CRT.

Sticks aren't really a necessity for UMK3 like they are for games like Street Fighter. It's a matter of preference anyway.

I gotta agree with Tim here. While some pad players are proficient at the game, the vast majority of high level tournament play is all done on stick.

The conclusion here is that high level play is achieved more easily on stick than on pad.

I used to be a pad player, and I saw a major improvement in my game once the transition back to stick was made. There are simply more options available to you, and more manueverability with 2 full hands than there are with akward contortions of your fingers and thumbs. We know how akward it can be to reach with your left middle or ring finger to those L1/L2 buttons while trying to perform precisely timed d-pad inputs... it's very uncomfortable, and on a stick its mindless and easy.

That's because most tournament players come from the arcade scene of UMK3.

Well that depends on the person really. Depends on alot of things.

I find it incredibly easy to use a controller and pad. However, I cannot use a stick for UMK3. It's a matter of preference.

I know sticks are easier to use. But that doesn't matter. It matters what you prefer to use.

Besides, some of the best players use pads. "Majority" doesn't mean anything.

i have a ps2 controller converter if you want to use instead of a ps3 controller.

i will try to be there for this, (for UMK) as i know i said 2 years back i would go to castle fight night when i visited New Jersey, but that was when my family approached me about moving back to NJ so i had a lot on my mind at the time and thats why i didnt go then.

but now i live in NJ (Fort Lee) and would be more then happy to attend (as long as the games for UMK arent played on Widescreen TVs due to lag)

@ the pad VS stick discussion: I know sticks are better, but I'm too lazy to start from scratch and learn how to play on one, so I rather just use a ps3 controller.

@ Check, thanks bro, but I've grown used to the ps3 one so I'm fine with it. Look forward to meeting you there.

Check, it would be great to have you there.

Also, ultimately its all about preference, but I think in the end I found that the stick helped my game immensely when converting back to stick from a pad.

You cant say SF is better for sticks and MK isnt. It goes both ways or simply doesnt.

Sticks provide you with one main and ultimately the most important thing: PRECISION. No pad will ever replace the precision you can get on a stick, ever....PERIOD. And it certainly doesnt matter what game it is.

Like SF, MK1-MK4 were made to be played on a stick, and since were talking about UMK3 for the most part, there are characters who can only be played to their full potential on a stick, such as Kano (hence why you never see many truly dominating Kano's on XBL or DS).

Just because you learned to play UMK3 on a pad doesnt mean that its the only way to play or is the best way to play, etc. That is simply false. Save up and buy a MK custom made stick and see just what we mean. Otherwise, dont talk like its gospel because its not, its an opinion, and its not a fact.

Sure it does. Some games such as MK, aren't as "you NEED a stick to win" as others. You can do just fine in UMK3 with a pad. Players such as Crazy Dominican have proved that.

The game does matter. For games like SF, you have to have a stick to compete at the high levels. It's just not like that with some games. Sure, the stick is better, but it's not as needed in some games.

I can use Kano pretty well on a pad. He's not my main but I can do all the cannon ball tricks just fine. Just takes practice.

I never said that. Stick is technically the best way to play. But that doesn't matter. It matters what you prefer. And if you do fine on a pad, why advocate making people get sticks? It's like, "play the way we play or you are beneath us".

It's not a matter of which is better, it's a matter of which you prefer.

MK doesn't require DB, DF input as much as SF does, this is why pads are bad for SF, it is a completely different game, with different input requirements, and can completely be considered different in that way.
(Try playing 3s on a pad, it just doesn't work as well as it does for MK.)

PS2/PS3 input works perfectly for MK because it is more of a 'tapping' game than the fluid movements of SF. b,b; b,f; b,d,b; etc. Movements like NW's hatchet are d,f, not b,db,d,df,f or even d,df,f.

Sticks register the 4 directions (other than b,d,f,u) better than PS pads.

The precision that comes with a stick isn't necessary for any MK, keyboard players prove that correct.
The extra inputs give you more opportunities to fail using them, and you can be more strong in one direction (right or left) with a stick, but we aren't talking about human error.

The reason you don't see any dominating Kano players on XBL is because you cannot configure the buttons (which is untrue on mame, which is used in tournaments far more than 360), and DS just doesn't have two triggers on both sides (but who cares?).

Saying sticks are helpful to MK is just as much of an opinion as saying pads are.

Keyboards are better than sticks and pads anyway. You can use multiple directional inputs, and have an enormous amount of options for button layout. I don't know why anyone would gloat over pad, stick, or think they are using the most superior control panel for MK.

Sticks are just more fun to use than anything else, and don't break/wear so fucking easily (<--gfdi).
This.

Like I said, in games like SF4 where you really need a stick, I see where you're coming from Tim. Example. In FPS's, a mouse and keyboard are way better than a controller. It's like, using numbers 1 being worse performance 10 being best, a controller would be a 3 and a m&k would be a 10. However, it differs from game to game in FPS's. But the m&k will always be better, just maybe not by that margin. In SF4, the controller is like a 6 and the stick is a 10. In UMK3, a controller is a 7, stick an 8, and the keyboard a 10.

That's how I see it anyways.

I would like to come to this. I could bring my PS3, some sticks, and my copy of Street Fighter 4.( I used to live in Smithtown, ironically lol)
