Online Complains/Rants About Etiquette, Players, Netcode, Desyncs etc!!

I'm posting these observations in an attempt to get a discussion going on online conduct. Here are a few bullet points to get the ball rolling.

1) There is no standard number of games you should expect to get when you challenge someone

I see this kind of rhetoric where people feel that you owe them a certain number of games. Of course, this is crazy and completely false. This magic number is imaginary and is never communicated beforehand. If you don't reach that number, the other player will then make judgements about you and your game play. Generally speaking, a FT5 or FT10 is expected. Reasons for this NOT happening are many:

- Your connection to the other player is garbage and it's just not worth it to continue
- Your skill level far exceeds your opponents and it's just not fun or value added to continue
- Their skill level far exceeds your own and it's just not fun or value added to continue without going into the lab to understand a certain tactic or setup
- One of your fellow clan members or person on your FL challenges you and you'd rather play them
- Something in your real life needs attending to and you've got to go

Just to summarize, you don't owe anybody anything. It's your game - play it how you want.

2) Give your opponent the benefit of the doubt if you get the "game session is no longer available" message

In the online world I find that people are quick to think the worst of eachother. There is a big difference between "your opponent has left the game" (rage quitting) and "game session is no longer available" (disconnecting). While sometimes it can look VERY suspicious (eg, just as you are about to win), more often then not there is a legit reason for the disconnection. It's not a good look to roll around the planet earth thinking that everyone who disconnects from you is a frightened scrub who can't stand losing. Think better of your community.

3) Saying "ggs" is nice, but not necessary

There's really no reason not to send a "ggs" message after a great set. However, not receiving one doesn't necessarily mean that you are being disrespected or that your opponent is too salty to play nice. They could have jumped right into the next game or left to take a piss. Don't assume the worst of people.

That's it for now. I'll add to this if I think of anything else.

After a half-year hiatus, I booted up Injustice again and decided to play a bit online. But apparently only scrubs are left.

After an hour of searching for player matches, I only got 2 players to accept. Both of them had 0 wins on their record.

My record is something like 5,000 wins, 800 losses, with a TrueSkill of 36. I think it's the TrueSkill that scares people off.

Online community for this game is shit. It was never great, but this is the worst I've seen from any game, ever.

Update: one player accepted but then immediately rejected while I was typing this. Urrgh.

This is why, in fighting games in general (and really CoD, Dota2, and 99% of other online games), you need to keep your own list of players you can call up at any time and play games with.

But with that said, I also play a lot of Player Match and manage to find some good games in every session. I've met people there that are now here (like @Vengeance135). Not everyone accepts, but that's life :)

I feel you on this one. I don't know if it's my record or the fact that I have the 100 win icon with deathstroke on my player card but I get declined by people that have good records also. The best thing to do is too join a room and challenge all the people with good records then when they decline send a message saying "noob hunting huh" they get so salty. It's great.

There are several top players that play on xbl. Hit them up for games.
I already have a bunch of them. That's not really the point. The point is how degenerate the online community is. It's not even mostly scrubby rejections anymore. It's nearly everyone I encountered over that period. There's no other game as popular with such a shitty playerbase, very weird.

And I'm obviously not talking about TYM regulars. I mean the random online monsters.

Because everyone wants to win. Play badly, change trueskill lvl. Get more matches because ppl think you're noob. Shouldn't have to resort to such things.

Scrubs will stay scrubs, you can't change them.

but if you have good players in your friends list there's no reason to wait hours just to play one.

They weren't on, and I couldnt expect them to play me at the drop of a hat after being gone for half a year.

And the point isn't that scrubs are scrubs. Every game has scrubs. It's that there are an especially large number of them in the online community for this game. Not a good look.

You're on TYM! Go to the PSN id thread or the XBL gamertag thread and start adding people! Most people on this site are nice enough to give games to anyone. I haven't had a problem yet. Hell, I don't even have MK9 for PC yet, but I already have ppl on my list that are willing to play with me when I do this week.

I've been playing IGAU very lightly online since it came out and let's not kid ourselves: if you're not playing someone from TYM or /r/Injusticegame or something you're 90% likely to play some scrub who lames out victories against bad players and quits the first time you beat them.

People aren't gonna play someone with a high TS rating if they just wanna stroke their e-peen. People who want to learn for offline tournament play are the only ones who I enjoy playing. The online random community was always shit, there are just fewer players now because casuals get bored after year one.

Plenty of people on TYM would be willing to give you good matches, though!

Yea the best players don't waste their time with chat rooms cuz they all know each other. You just gotta know people. My friends list has a solid 10-15 top inuustice players and I know they never go in chatrooms
