First of all, I'd like to thank @Keits and his staff for putting together an excellent production this weekend. It ran smoothly and issues were immediately handled in a professional manner. I'm going to mostly talk about what happened off stream, so the viewers can truly appreciate what the attendees got to experience in person.
When I arrived to the venue around 10:30 am, Injustice pools had already begun and everything was being monitored by Keits himself. I feel this needs to be acknowledged, because some people here are under the impression that he doesn't care at all about our community. When KitanaPrime's B3 was clashed by Rahsaan, myself and several others told a TO and he quickly ran to another staff member who had more expertise in patching systems. By the time he came back, KitanaPrime had won the match, and declined to update the system because he just wanted to get the set over with. After Rahsaan won the set, another staff member came and alerted us the system was patched, but someone switched the profiles. We then noticed the system was hard-wired into an internet connection, and not using the bootleg hotel wireless. He took care of it within 2 minutes, then Keits reappeared and proceeded to make sure every other system was patched.
An hour or so later, we were called to the stage to prepare for pools to be streamed 10 minutes before scheduled time. In true UFGT spirit, I proceeded to get Divekicked out of the tournament by Godspeed and MajinBerzerker after my streamed match against Hruza. Keits really runs a tight ship, and I hope it eventually becomes the standard for fighting game tournaments.
The co-tournament director Max and streamer @BGCallisto also worked closely with us and asked the community what commentators they wanted. We ended up alternating shifts so everyone's favorites could have some air time. Ultimately, they wanted myself and David for Top 8, but a fan favorite run in by @GGA 16 Bit was more than welcomed. He deserved a main event time slot after those epic comebacks.
After the tournament on Saturday, a group of 20 went to the X-Men movie. Some of us were tired from being up for 15 or more hours and dozed off for bits and pieces, but it was still a fun experience. From what I gathered, the plot is basically "We're sorry for X-Men 3; hope this fixes it." Oh yeah, the 3D effects were cool too.
In casuals, I ended up taking ass whippings from Espio, Glass Sword's Scorpion, and Noobe. I just wanted to press F23 on my gamepad and enjoy myself . I also got to play a fun FT5 with Rational Jim. There was one point where he did running man stance and I hit him with a full screen Wake Up Scoop
Overall, it was one of the best tournaments I've ever attended. Shoutouts to @gpmoney for Nightwing experience, MelloGang for advice, KitanaPrime for always being there when I need to vent, Theo for using Superman at GBS, @Noobe for being so generous with his lodging and food, Cash for sidebets, HoneyBee for showing Flash's true potential, Biohazard, Max, and ForeverKing Jr. for finally making me realize how fucked up Bane is, Filipino Man for making Hysteria hold his incessant Wonder Woman downplaying, @GGA 16 Bit for being 16 Bit, Perfect Legend for bringing the hype at his own expense, Pig for driving us to McDonalds, Truth for the movie idea, Digit for the hotel room, Rahsaan for all of our weekend shenanigans, PPJ and Goomba for playing Zatanna and Superman to help me theory fight, drunken Reno for hyping up casuals with sidebets, PantyChrist for placing Top 8 in MK, @OG Mannimal for holding it down for online warriors, @VGMtheVagabond for being as funny as his avatar, @Ne'er-do-well for showing off some sick Frost setups, Gross for beating everyone in Injustice casuals to prove he's the best MK player, @Espio and Blake for our 4 hour mod war, @UltraDavid for giving up Ultra Street Fighter commentary to hype up Injustice, @colt, @tylerlansdown, Derrick, Boon, and John Edwards for showing love in person, and last but not least, @GGA Dizzy for picking me up and taking me to the airport. I would have had to pay $100 in cab fees if it weren't for him. If I forgot anyone, I apologize. I had a good time with pretty much everyone I ran into.
