Alright guys, this thread is for those interested in the MK9 Ranbat tournament happening on August 21st at Southtown Arcade, 447 Stockton Street San Francisco, CA 94108. It's the first MK9 ranbat in San Francisco (that I know of). In order for it to happen though, we need at least 10 people to show up. So post here if you can make it. Bring your friends!

Hey Guys,
There is going to be a change in date for the MK9 ranbat. The reason is that we wanted iPlaywinner to stream MK9 and it was impossible due to the number of games that are happening with KOF, SF4: AE and Marvel. So we decided to start a new ranbat with MK9, SF3 Third Strike, CVS2 and SF: Super Turbo starting September 11. So mark your calendars for September 11 for the first MK9 ranbat. It will still be at Southtown Arcade. As the date approaches we will finalize a time when the ranbat will start. Check back at this thread for more updates. See you there!

Alright guys,

Here's an update for the Mortal Kombat ranbat happening on September 11. Mortal Kombat will be accompanied with The King of Fighters 13 ranbat happening on the same day. Mortal Kombat will start around 1 or 2 pm, and will be $7 to enter. MK will be played on PlayStation 3. See you guys then!

Oh, yeah,

Before I forget, all characters are legal except Freddy, Skarlet, and Kratos and his stage is banned. More rules will be posted as the tournament gets closer, so check back often. Ask questions if you have any in this forum.

Alright guys! Are you ready for tomorrow?!

If you didn't already know, there will be an MK9 ranbat happening at Southtown Arcade in San Francisco on September 11. The entire ranbat will feature MK9 and KOF 13. Here are the rules for MK9:

Tournament Rules

One on One.
Bring your own controller.
Default Settings.
2/3 rounds best out of 3, double elimination format.
Winners and losers finals are 2 out of 3 rounds best of 5 games.
For grand finals, player from losers bracket must beat player from winners bracket twice.
Winning player CANNOT switch characters, only losing player can.
Kratos’ stage, Street Stage are banned (because of distractions these stages can produce during the fight).
Kratos, Freddy, and Skarlet are banned (because Kratos is console specific. Freddy and Skarlet have glitches that give those characters unfair advantages during fight).
Kombat Kodes are banned.
Rain and Kenshi are legal.
Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero will be unlocked.

See you guys there!

Hey Vestmentofruin,

The "official" start time will be around 1 or 2pm. That's as much as I can narrow it down with all involved (the Southtown crew, iPlaywinner, etc.) We have about 15 people who said they're participating. I'm assuming more may show up because these forums are getting a lot of views, and MK9 popularity seems to be on the raise with more tournaments and streams going here in the U.S. and abroad. It'll be best to show up no later than 12:30pm. The place will be packed, as it usually is when ranbats are going on. Bring some friends with you if you can!

Sorry guys, but here is a last minute update...

Registration will be from 12pm to 3pm. The official start time of the MK tournament will be at 3pm, sharp. MK9 will be streamed after KOF, so if you absolutely cannot make it, watch it on the iPlaywinner stream. Half of the MK tournament should make it to the stream. Let other MK9 fans know about the stream and support the scene!

Last but not least, an additional rule: no use of turbo functions in the tournament. But we know you wouldn't use that, would you?

Alright guys, I have the results for the MK9 ranbat!

1. Michael R
2. Jack Burton
3. SNKE
4. Jeff
5. D
6. Two Snakes
7. FireMafia15

Thanks to all who showed up! And for those who did show up, sign up with Testyourmight and add me as a friend through the site so we can keep in touch. I'm also gonna post something important soon, so make sure I have your contact info.

Before I go, I want to address the fact that MK9 wasn't streamed Sunday. It really broke my heart that it wasn't streamed. Me and my friend D worked hard to make sure we had a ranbat and that it would be streamed. I know there are a lot of people who read this thread but don't post anything. I need you guys to do something for me. If you want MK9 to be streamed, blow up iPlaywinner and Southtown's Twitter, Facebook, and their websites and let them know YOU WANT MK9 STREAMED!!! Tell them you're sick of streamers not giving MK9 it's due. It's the viewers who donate to the streamers and make the streams possible, so you should have a say as to what you want to watch. No MK9, no viewers, no donations, no going to Southtown (where's the MK machines?) . MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD!!! Tell them Jack Burton sent you.

I had an awesome time on Sunday! Major thanks to Jack and Simon(?) for having us!

Shoutouts:

In order of when I saw/played them:

D - Good games man, your reptile's pretty scary. It's cool to meet someone that also used to be in SSBM too :). We should try to set something up for it!

Jack Burton - Again, much thanks for hosting! You're such a cool guy, I'm glad I was able to meet you! Also, respect for sticking with a character (Kenshi) you just picked up, and you did well with!

TwoSnakes - Not sure if you look at the forums, but good games man. I hope we can practice soon!

Michael R - Nasty Kitana man, you deserved every win.

Firemafia - Good games man :)

Jeff - Your gauntlet run was one of the funniest things that day LOL

Hopefully there's a next one, I want to bring a few of my friends with me...LET'S MAKE THIS HYPE!

Wasn't it just due to lack of communication about when it would be streamed? I don't think they were intentionally ignoring MK9, but I don't recall hearing about when anyone wanted MK9 streamed.

Good games to all. especially to Jack Burton for catching that no one in attendance blocks low and having a solid anti-air game (had to use Kung Lao as I needed a dive kick) and Jeff for beating half the attendees with virtually no experience playing MK (just goes to show fundamentals can go a long way).

Thanks for the shoutouts, SNKE! I want to do another one. If you don't mind helping out, because we need all the help we can get!

@ sleepykyo The guys at Southtown, D and I planned to have MK9 streamed by iPlaywinner. We moved the ranbat from August 21st to September 11th so MK9 would be streamed. The ranbat was originally planned to have MK9, SF Super Turbo, Third Strike, and CvS2. Then Southtown moved KOF a week early and changed the lineup to KOF and MK9 and made KOF the priority to be streamed, with MK9 after it if MK9 was still going on. I didn't like Southtown changing the ranbat around like that after we agreed weeks in advance about what the schedule would be.

Hey, Demonlos, welcome to the Porkchop Express! We're been trying to get something more permanent going after having success getting the first ranbat started. We want as many people interested as possible so we can start another one. Are you in the San Francisco area?

Hey there Red Reaper! Glad your interested! We don't have another ranbat planned yet, but we want to start another one up soon. We want at least ten people so we can have it again, most likely at Southtown Arcade is San Francisco. For now, I'm collecting as many names as possible so we can get this going. We'll have extra controllers around, just ask whether you want pad or stick. PS3 will be the console of choice. Are you from the San Francisco area or out of town?
