If this has been posted before, my apologies -- but I thought it was cool. It follows the development of the scene and the top players. I think it'd be cool for every scene to have something like this, because it takes the tournament history + the drama and condenses it into an interesting format that anyone can pick up on.

The more I watch, the better it gets. Episodes 3 and 4 are golden. Going to check some more out soon.

Can you even play smash online? How did this game get bigger than ours? Theres obviously something we need to learn from their community.
I agree. Like or hate the game, the passion that community has should be an example to all. They just love the damn game and do whatever they can to support it even when the rest of the FGC and the company that freaking made the game all but rejected them. Actually, I partly wonder if that's the reason why.
Seems like the smash scene never really cared what the rest of the FGC ever thought or whether they had a nintendo cup or if they were a side event at NCR. They just went and ran their own damn tournaments where they were the center event and told everyone else to hold that.

When I was part of the Smash community (2004-2007) I had no idea there was such thing as an FGC. I seriously thought that Smash was the only fighting game that was competitive at that level. None of us at the time gave a shit about any other game. It's still like like that today for the most part.

Also, 100% of the tournaments aside from MLG were all community driven. A max venue fee of maybe $10, and a $20 entrance. More of the money would go towards the winners, combine that with the community tradition of offering housing (a surprising amount of people usually offered) to those traveling and you basically have a very economically efficient way of making sure people can come and compete. Obviously, not all of those things are as practical as they once were, but there are definitely things that our community can learn from them. First is organizing our own NRS majors, which is something I can hopefully do later this year.

Did the house situation ever lead to problems? When I heard about that, the first thing I said is "that's a lot of trust". You wish everyone would be good people, but it's not always the case.

What Dave means is the game has spectator interest from those that don't even play Smash or other fighting games, which is very important to the growth of a game toward a big stage. He wasn't taking a swing at the game itself or anyone for that matter... I think.

Yeah, most definitely. Especially in the early days when people were just getting to know each other. Later on when the community was more established and everyone was more acquainted with each other, things got better. I think it's become a system where you accept someone who you know/trust into your home for housing and who they bring along better behave if they have the friend to vouch for them. Also, people would build reputations for being bad guests, so those people weren't invited for housing. Nothing was perfect though.

Here's the results thread from TG6 (2004) where Mattdeezy (the TO) recounts some of his experiences in the 2nd post.

Wow, this was really, really, well put together. I have never given smash a second thought and was planning on going to bed before happening to click on the first vid and binge watching the rest.

Wow this is really good. But LBSH there is ABSOLUTELY no way NRS can have something like this.

NRS doesn't have the history, the dedication and consistency for something like this.

Honestly, who has stuck playing MK/Injustice from all the way back in MK2 until Injustice? The closest to that is @R.E.O. Who played UMK3 . MKT , MKDA . MKD , MKA , MKDC , MK9 and Injustice. There is also @Tom Brady who started in MKDA.
