He shouldn't be using Sakura. Chris G losing to Knuckledu should explain why. Sonic excels at pressure characters with an option to use projectile. Sakura may exist like that on paper, but she requires a bit of patience to get in, and her hadouken isn't strong enough to unsettle people off of any particular position. Juri can apply pressure and build meter while working her way in. Ibuki does what she does off of any one knockdown. Guy has high low pressure and strong combos. Evil ryu is also combo strong. Of that group Evil Ryu, and I'd add Chun Li are probably the best characters for Sonic to use, since the others will receive some nerfs in Ultra.
Uhhh... Chun Li is very defensive and requires a fuck ton of a patience... far more than Sakura. If he wants a character that can pressure with vortex and have fireball viability, he should be playing Akuma. That character fits the bill far better than any of the ones you've listed.

Could you not put the winner of the tournament in the title? Like put "Final Round 17 Top 8 Results" like EventHubs or something. Don't spoil it for those who missed out on it live.

French Chun Li vs Dieminion. Pressure Chun Li. Any character can be used to be more aggressive than their archetype suggests, which is why Ultra David and James Chen pointed out how differently Knuckledu approaches Guile: using him more offensively than most players. Chun Li being primarily a turtle character doesn't take away from the fact that her walkspeed and her attacks make her a very good pressure character, in spite of how most people use her, and in line with Sonic Fox's style of play. Evil Ryu is exactly like Sonic's style more than Akuma because E.R. has slightly quicker mobility. Again, SF4 stream yesterday had James and David talking about how people might have to rethink how they approach what Chun li is, and is capable of in SF4. My opinion.
Obviously any character can be played in any fashion, that doesn't they excel at that archetype. Mixing up a play-style can be effective regardless of how poor a character performs aggressively or defensively, it's a strong mind-game tactic. Chun Li's pressure comes from well timed pokes, not from relentless assault. Again, it requires a lot of patience even to go on the offensive with her. Infiltration is using a character that hasn't gotten a lot of attention, and he's a player of a caliber that can maximize the potential of people's lack of knowledge in that regard. Chun Li is just not a character that promotes rush-down style, and her fireball is marginally better than Sakura's.

I'm certain walk speed is hardly the defining factor in Sonic's play-style. Akuma has the vortex capabilities and a much better teleport, which are both things Sonic got major mileage off with Batgirl.

Anyway, this discussion is pretty pointless. Sonic plays Sakura, and that's a very good choice. You really don't have to have that much patience to play her. She's also my main. You get in once and you can ride that all the way to the end. That's pretty much the epitome of his Batgirl.

Playing 2 Win surprised a lot of people I think. I'm happy for that guy, especially since so many hate him. It's ridiculous. Also, congrats to the young Sonic Fox. Why are we still sleeping on that kid and not predicting him in top 8? lol
