Majors usually scout out good weekends for scheduling, and mothers day this year might just be the best time they could find? They probably had some reason to put it on that weekend.

(My birthday falls on mothers day this year :U, I'll be watching top 8 on my birfday)

Independence day is my birthday v_v it fucking sucks, I think evo a year or so back was right before july 4th -_- final round ends right before st patties n i gotta spend that drivin back ;_;

Do TO's really schedule things on Christmas and the 4th of July?

Playing devils advocate there are many holidays in the year and sometimes the best time to schedule an event is during a long holiday weekend where you know people are less likely to be tied up with work so they can travel. Furthermore I'd contest holiday importance varies greatly between attendees. I'd argue valentines day is a manufactured holiday to begin with, there are plenty of non religious people so Easter can be a non factor and I guess mothers day could go either way, but I know my mother is content with a phone call and a flower delivery and while I understand Pig's married and has a kid so mothers day has a bit more significance. However, I'd speculate that's not the case for the vast majority of video game tournament goers. What it comes down to is TO's will never be able to please everyone especially busy family men such as pig. But I'm sure pig understands more than most the sacrifices you make when you decide to create a family.

tldr; Pigs complaint is semi-legitimate

This is definitely legit. Not only are they asking tourney goers to spend their Holiday away from family and friends, but the holiday weekend gets realll expensive as well..

Ps. Shame on us stream monsters spending even parts of our day being monsters, instead planning shit out with our moms Dayummm! :(

I totally feel ya @AK Pig Of The Hut. For example, I'm Canadian and even I freaked when EVO was scheduled the weekend of the 4th.

I guess no matter how you look at it, event scheduling is a crap shoot. You just never know what is going to fit into people's schedules or if and when people celebrate a given holiday. Scheduling near a holiday may be a way for TOs to get a little certainty in this area. It's a safer bet that near a holiday there would be less conflicts with work, school, etc. so more people could possibly come. Then after that it comes down to when it is honored. For example, FR is on Mother's Day weekend but what if someone merely makes their mom breakfast in bed and that's it? Or does all of the housework on Monday? They could still go to FR and take care of mom at the same time. Obviously not everyone has this tradition and has their own that preclude any tournament obligations.

I really don't think it's a case of the TOs trying to screw us as opposed to them getting as many people to their event as they can. If a tourney can get say 1500 people total to show on Mother's Day weekend and only say 1350 the weekend after, I don't think it's totally unreasonable for a TO to schedule accordingly. The final choice on whether or not we go is always up to us anyway.
