Lately Killer Instinct has been going through a major transitional process with both the community and the developers themselves. As some of you may have heard by now, Amazon has aquired Double Helix, the studio that makes Killer Instinct. This has thrown a lot of players out for a loop in regards to Killer Instinct, the IP backed by Microsoft, but created by DH studios.

Yesterday more information was revealed by Microsoft as well as double helix. Here are some highlights taken from that interview: Source (http://www.killerinstinctcentral.com/highlights-from-the-killer-instinct-stream-021314/ (Finchomatic on DH forums)

  • Fulgore has a lot more zoning tools
  • reconfirms that a patch is in the works to fix jail and other issues following last month’s update
  • When asked about the future of KI with the loss of Double Helix, Microsoft says to keep the faith and that they are dedicated to the franchise.
  • Lobbies still in the works. Will not be in the next patch
  • Fulgore has much of his returning moves from the original games
  • New Ultras for characters are under consideration
  • Fulgore is still a cyborg; he is not a full-on robot
  • Very excited about KI going to EVO this year
  • Working on an official soundtrack release
  • There will be another Killer Instinct panel at EVO
  • Will ensure that KI will maintain its same style and everything with the new developer
  • Reiterates that guest characters are far off into the future. They’re more focused on bringing back old characters and introducing new characters first
  • Cannot confirm if we’ll be receiving a re-release of KI 2. Said they are very dedicated to the franchise, so a potential hint that it may happen.
  • There will not be achievements for every character in story mode
  • There will be more KI merchandise in the future
As you can see, Dev work for the game is very strong. Also, just to clear up misconceptions about the second season of the game...it will be built on the very same engine the game is now which seems to indicate Microsoft struck a deal with Amazon to continue using the Hex Engine (created by DH).

Most interestingly, there were more details about Fulgore released including information about his particular playstyle. Of most importance, DH/Microsoft has stated that Fulgore will retain all of his classic zoning tools. This in combination with other statements which indicate that he has "A Lot Of Zoning Tools" indicate the character will be a primary and fundamental zoner.

With top players such as @AK Pig Of The Hut 's interest in the game fading due to questions about the games future, I hope that these new revelations put the communities hearts at ease. We all want the game to succeed, especially those who have invested in it, and this new information seems to reaffirm that there will be no "reset switch".

Speaking of @AK Pig Of The Hut , I wonder how he feels about getting another pure zoner in a game that is composed of a lot of rushdown currently. Will Fulgore provide the "Spark" needed to reginite this player and others passion? Only time will tell, but I for one am excited to see what happens!

Well, that doesn't necessarily mean he's "pure" zoning.

I mean, in Injustice we have a "zoning" character that has tools typical of good rushdowns, such as incredible 50/50's, awesome wake-ups that are SAFE, amazing anti-air and jump-in attacks, a bunch of normals that are + on block.

There's always the chance he could be a zoner in the Liu Kang and Deathstroke tradition- where they have awesome keep-away tools but are great up close too- with the main drawback being the lack of damage they get up close, and the fact that 2d fighting games nowadays have a weird teleport-fetish.

lol this website can't handle "pure zoning"
The funny thing is....

That's the only zoning people CAN handle online.

Of all the zoners- Raven, Cyborg, and Sinestro- Deathstroke is still the most rage-quit inducing characters.

It's less that people don't like pure zoners- more that they dislike hybrids.
