Killer Instinct: The Game That Is Hated For The Wrong Reasons

@AK Black Preon

The "it's not really opinion" quote was to point out how nobody (except for Wound earlier in this thread now) was saying anything to the contrary that the game is solid. And I truly do feel bad for anyone who gets bored with 6 characters :(. I know everyone feels differently, but it's just shame that people judge the entirety of the game based on that.... I've played this game 5-6 hours in one sitting at times and have never gotten bored.

And honestly, I don't feel this game is "bare-bones" at all. You play Story Mode and Challenge Tower once (okay, that's an assumption, and if you do play those more than once then I apologize), then after that it's all Versus, Online and Training mode. You're KI experience is going to be exactly the same as you're experience with MK/IGAU/whatever after playing them for a month.
Those other modes in which we brought up. Add hours of gameplay, varies it up is all I'm saying. I've never said that Killer Instinct is shit. That would be going to far. When I was enjoying I thought it was fluid and fun. However it is in no way shape or form enough to make ME Jump out and get the Xbone. All I was saying is that to me without oodles of content I get bored quickly. Which is why I've been enjoying BlazBlue/Persona 4: Arena/Injustice so much. I acknowlege KI will be a good game WHEN its all here.

Justin Wong cares about my tech, but no one else lol ;_;

he even talked about it while commentating on the Apex stream.

I still have hope that KI will thrive but I knew immediately that it was going to have huge hurdles; high cost barrier to entry, console exclusivity, and the highly spread out character additions are irresistable fodder for FGC monsters to hate on.

However, there's hope that it will bring in people who have never played fighters because the Dojo mode is so fucking godlike. Dojo shatters the barrier of entry as it relates to difficulty for Fighting Games. It explains all the nuances and best practices of FG mechanics that have been developed over 25 years and I'm not talking about stupid shit like "hit them til their life runs out and you win" that gets into IGN reviews or whatever. The secret mechanics of neutral game, punishes, and other gameplay optimizations that until KI have been mostly kept close to the chest and could only be learned through getting bodied over and over again.

The dude Desdinova who beat me in Grand Finals of the Blu Planet tournament KI is his first fighter (I'm 99% sure I overheard that, anyway) and that's really great. Fuck the hate monsters, bring in new blood.

PS: fuck sabrewulf that character is hilariously cheap and I hope they nerf him into the ground :DOGE
100% man, The Dojo mode is insane. I wish every player in the FG community could go through it.

The one thing I wish it said at the end was, "now go find a local and support your tourny scene" lol

Hit/hurt boxes in practice as well as live frame data is awesome as well.

I think for people that actually like fighting games in general, the game is great, but for people that only like NRS fighters, it doesn't apeal to them, probably because it makes sense and works.

Example, In KI I can actually hold DB to block and it works properly, thats still an unforgivable glitch to me in Injustice.

I write too much.
price drop?

in 1 year well seee maybe a 50$ price drop.
2 years? maybe 75$

the only time consoles really drop in price is after that console is useless.

xbox 360 with 250gb hard drives are still 250$

250$ for a how old console?

how low do u expect the xbone to be?

also fightstick price? 200? have u seen the price of most new sticks its 150-200 for most good ones man.

PS: u cant knock the people who blow 400 for a console were talking DC fans the same guys who drop thousands on comics.
Funny, I bought both my 360 and PS3 used about 6 and 3 years ago respectively. Neither of them cost me more than $250 max, and I got both of them bundled with controllers and games. Why yes, I did wait quite a while to get them, that is true, but they were far from obsolete when I did.

Also I have bought 3 sticks so far, all TEs and all of them have served me for years and years. None of them cost me more than $120. I have never even SEEN a $200 price tag on a stick before XBONE came out.

Finally, are you really comparing buying a $200 controller to buying a 99 cent comic book? Is this really happening?

You know what, instead of writing words, let's let the facts speak for themselves:

It topped sales charts for a few months in a row when it was released and while I heard it sold about 2 million copies total since release, I can't find that number anywhere so IDK about that part.

I can't find data on KI3's sales unfortunately since it has consistently failed to make top 75 on any sales charts. Even on the week the XBONE was released and the charts were dominated by launch titles, KI3 STILL didn't manage to make top 75!

Regardless of what you say, KI3 is not making as much money as it should.
I believe this game has a strong engine and is a lot of fun, but there has to be a problem if it isn't selling.

99cent comic book? no i mean the thousand dollar rare ones.
http://www.eightarc.com/fusion-synthesis/ 200$ stick

also this is a money making argument/ i thought it was a fighting game argument?

PS: KI is free unless you feel like buying extras for it.

At least it had full roster minus 4 Dlc , story mode , etc

I'd prefer that as most would

full roster, but only superman won anything for months.
story mode? SF doesn't have a story mode. we play fighting games pig not RPGS.

like i said in your other thread to each his own enjoy your 20% unblockables.

"I'm so good at this game" said me never (yet)
SPEAKING of KI being Free. I like that unlike demos, they change who the free character is so that you aren't stuck with a massive army of 1 character. (Granted you'll still have your Online *Insert Character Name here* Army).

Also I must say I've never seen a demo have online play before and have better netcode than a full retail game. Anyone who can pull that off (putting KI out of the equation for a second) THAT is impressive

at launch yeah it had more characters but 80% of them were not viable.

KIs tutorial mode shits on injustices by far, (Who's doesn't)??? - But it seems Injusstice's is chalked up to bare essentials on mechanics needed for the game. MK9's tutorial was just Johnny Cage stuff. But fighters aren't typically judged on that. (A lot of Fighters that are classics don't even have that)

the netcode shits on injustice (Who's Doesn't)??? - Fact

the practice mode shits on injustice (Who's Doesn't)??? - MK's :joker:

the music shits on injustice. (Fighting games for music? >__>: wat in that case. BlazBlue should be wiping their ass with most games.)

the only thing injustice truly had were more stages (which in injustice may be worse then good due to how they swing MUS)

and characters but like i said 80% of them sucked ass at launch. - Super Man, Killer Frost, Bat man, Aqua Man, Wonder Woman, Flash, Raven, and hell even Deathstroke seemed pretty solid day 1. Outside of those not too much was offered in terms of any sort of viability. However that's more than 6 characters I just named... and I didn't even say Black Adam.

star labs? hahahahah - (More Content)

& story mode? we get that in march im cool with waiting this is a fighting game so id rather just ya know fight then do some storyline. (More Content)

And more content which persuade more people into buying a game in the first place.

all you injustice players bashing KI.

look at the fucking game you play.

you are bashing a game due to its character amount when you play a game that for the first 4 months only 1 character was even relevant.
DONT FORGET WE GOT BOO'D AT EVO CAUSE ITS SO HYPE RIGHT? :DOGE

you play a game where match ups change due to stage.

a game where everything is pretty much safe as hell.

you have unblockables that do 20% from full screen.

yet you are bashing KI cause it lacks a 28 character cast when we know wed only see the same 10-15 in top 8s.

but its 200 times better then injustice in what truly should matter here.

ITS A MUCH MORE FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND AND REWARDING GAME.

like wtf we play fighting games not RPGS why does character count matter so much?

so the people who play the low tiers can cry for top tier nerfs and low tier buffs?

I mean I've never had plans to buy an Xbox One or KI for pretty much all the reasons that have been brought up. However...how are these shortcomings NEW news? Everyone knew what they were getting into. Not to mention, that doesn't nullify what the game does RIGHT.

I hate to be real with it but if you convinced yourself you'd be cool with KI and their pay/release structure and got caught up in the hype BUT are now disappointed then that's on you the consumer.

is it cause theres no OP zoner yet?
But you have Glacius, I mean SURE you can Combo Breaker his Zoning but its still there and he can still be really good if you're super patient. But that's part of why I like KI nobody can sit here and run away or stay behind an obstacle course of death doom and profound sadness. I mean its possible but characters can get around it. (Sure other games can do that but in most other games its one hell of a struggle with characters).

I also like that it punishes mashing by you locking yourself out and that you still have to guess to break stuff (which is fun to me). Other games have tried this and for the most part it failed IMO

I hope other fighting game developers follow suit with some of the choices KI made and hell take it further.

Play Monster Hunter!
I agree with the general sentiment that hating the game for the roster count is a bit silly.
It sucks, and it will severely hamper the games tournament life, but considering the circumstances I commend DH for going out of their their way to focus on gameplay first and foremost.

Still haven't played the game myself, and probably won't for a very long time, so my only real grip with it, and this is going to be a super unpopular opinion, but I find the game mind numbingly boring to watch.

If it ever comes to PC, I will jump on it instantly.

You can combo breaker his shatter move, which is not a projectile by the way. But trying that from a distance is suicide, he gets a free counterbreaker. It is unbreakable but it has crazy recovery frames, can be jumped on reaction, and some characters get a free punish/shadow punish. The "Zoning" in this game is traditional and requires thought process and calculation. It's a means to force mistakes and condition opponents. Glacius is more of a setup/trap character. His Hail (the little icicle) is great for starting pressure , making moves safe, and for protecting yourself. I see alot of people think its a regular projectile to spam from full screen, it's far more than that. Thats what I like about this game, it has traditional fundamentals and mechanics all around, all the while it is unique at the same time because of it's crazy combo system that leads to intense mindgames.

my only real grip with it, and this is going to be a super unpopular opinion, but I find the game mind numbingly boring to watch.

What is it that you find boring when you watch it if you dont mind me asking?
