Jago Anti-Sabre Tech: Defeating EX Eclipse

Tipped off by a recent twitter post by @berserker_mike I decided this is probably critical tech for people to stop picking on the Doge (who is still annoying as fuck, but I digress)

There has been much complaining about EX eclipse and its 0 frame start up. In reality this is not the case. True, that after the flash it is 0 frames, but it has a 6 frame start up before the flash. By SF4 standards that's a pretty slow reversal and easy to safe jump.

The following is a video displaying a classic SF4 style safe jump on EX eclipse. As you'll see if Sabre does nothing the jump attack connects. If he uses EX eclipse Jago lands in time to block and punish. In the video I have recorded the timing to the Jago dummy and am controlling Sabre.

The timing is slightly tricky. If you hold up forward after hitting the sweep your jump attack will be a frame or two too early and will whiff. What you must do is delay the jump extremely slightly. Practice this in training mode. If you've done it correctly the jump attack will hit super deep, around Sabre's knees.

I've taken this a step further, tipped off by a tweet from GGA Dizzy where Sabre is the only character in the game that can be juggled by a sweep. This means Jago can combo into the sweep by ending a combo with the launcher and sweeping before Sabre hits the ground.

The timing of this appears to vary slightly depending on how close to the ground Sabre is when the sweep connects. In general, the timing requires slightly more delay than a raw sweep.

Jago players should be putting this to good use to keep the Doge on his toes.

If someone can come up with an OS wind kick to catch back dashing then this will really force sabre to sit there and take the pressure

PS: let me know if there is any trouble viewing the videos. Sky drive embedding HTML wasn't working so I put in "public" links

thanks for digging in - I saw that tweet myself and was wondering what he was talking about exactly.

I did have to login with my MS account to view for some reason. What I have been doing lately To get them to Youtube (on my iPhone) is use the Skydrive app to go to the video->open in another app->(downloads video) -> Open in YouTube Capture.

Thanks again!

Nice post. I think you can do this to all dps since recovery from whiffed jump attacks is 2f and the fastest dp connects in 3f. Sabre would be one of the easier ones to do it on though since it's 6f.

I do think sweeping Sabre in juggles is going to be very useful. When he has no meter you can do whatever you want to him on wake up too

Not sure how I missed this thread at first.

Really really good post.

@STORMS honestly I feel this deserves a front page. the more players that see it, the more people will start looking for safe jump setups with their own characters.

Are those manuals in that combo?

Where's TJ Combo?
Thanks, bc we all didnt know what safe jumps were before this thread.

I think the main issue is the hitbox not that is "0" frames.

Try crossing him up on wake up!
Also he can just not wake up eclipse and just dash, backdash, throw you, press buttons etc.
