My return to tournaments and Defend the North thoughts

I actually felt really comfortable on the stream setup, i actually dropped combos based on too early of an input
Yeah, and the no sound thing kind of sucked. I'm basically going to have to supply my own external speakers+headsets myself if I want to continue doing this. As you knew, I was kind of in the corner of the room with little resources to myself and no projector.

Wonder how top players are going to feel when they play for 500$ pot bonus on Spooky's exact same capture equipment next week at Apex?

What am I supposed to say? The tournament ended up being weak, he didn't support the scene and did stuff with his family. Sorry I'm not obsessed with blowing things out of proportion when it's dones.
How about realizing all Of NE knew this was one shitty ass organized money rape fest??? Which is why TONS decided not to go give props to @pherleece being up front about it. If blow him up expect to get blown up unless you man up and own your mistake. Maybe listen next time a Little better

Yes come at me TO

If you guys knew it was going to be this bad why not actually post up tons of info on why? All I ever saw was stuff about how it shouldn't be considered a major and blahblah. Hell I heard nothing but positive things from Anime crew who went out other than wishing more than Top 4 got streamed. So yeah maybe next time be clearer and don't come off as children whining about something next time I guess or blowing things out of proportion between people that aren't you?

My mom tells me I'm pretty
I was spectating and I'm 50/50 on the event. I only really have three complaints.

1. Power going out mid-pool, leaving 6 (Would be 8, but one system didn't have the patched version of the game once things began) players to restart their matches (Not sets). Most matches were 1-0, but it seems unfair to be 1-0 beating your opponent 100-pixel and having to restart.

2. Four setups per game. This is supposed to be a major. If more people were to enter [the tournament], say about 200-300, do you think four setups per game would surpass as a good way to complete within the expected time frame? I remember going to one of the NECs and there were at least 20 setups for an ~100+ man tournament. MLGs had more setups and they average around 50-80 entrants.

3. Every single scene was in the same room. I don't necessarily mind scenes being in the same room, but the fact that every game was run in the same ballroom rather than splitting them into the ballroom across the hall seems weird. There would've been much more room for setups and more room for players to play comfortably. I had a really hard time walking around the venue with tables so close and players having to stand around said area.

Overall, I had fun hanging out with everyone. Would definitely go again just for the players. If MK10 is there, there's a chance I'll compete hahaha

Also, baes (Rico and Aquaman) caught me slipping during Injustice top 8 #HoldDat

The top 8 I saw was hype, though :) Was cool seeing all of the low tiers competing with the top tiers

I'm not blowing things out of proportion, I'm calling you out since you called me pathetic in another thread and when I asked you why you thought that and you never replied back. I'm just tired of people on TYM (not everyone) saying things without knowing what they are talking about and you are the best example to date. I don't know you and I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure I've supported the FGC more than you have. I have volunteered my free time at every Big E and ECT event for the last 3 year and have also streamed a ton of content. I even ran a show for 2-3 months before Injustice came out just to hype up the game and I won't even bring up what I've done in MK. Summer Jam 2013, if it wasn't for me driving way out of my way to pick up REO and Tom Brady, they wouldn't of even made it. I could go on about other things I have done for the FGC like spending $1000+ on stream equipment to provide content for the scene but I'm sure what I've said already is more than you. If I'm wrong about you then I'll take back all this but atleast I'm admitting that i dont know you unlike you who "knows me" I really don't like boasting about things I've done but people need to stop saying shit to people unless they really know who they are even talking to. Just like my post so I won't think you're a douche and we can just move on.

I guess you are just not in the know about things

Sorry, I dont load up the internet to educate you on every event. Sometimes you have to just feel around yourself and find out same way i do through communication

Killphil

A prop on the stage of life.
-4 Injustice set ups with lackluster monitors/content/updates
-poorly placed within the room
-funny smells

Lol Major.

Also the bit about the guy hitting you when you were playing: Some douche clown named Kerihime or w/e shoved me so hard I fell over onto the table with the setups on it at FF in 2012. I was quite livid because he had hit wafflez in the head with his big ass bag when he was walking by too. So please guys, if you need to get somewhere at an event, say "excuse me" or "get the fuck out of my way scrub". Works better than just pushing someone.

I will be making a review for every tournament I go to from now on. You're damn right I will express my opinion on the satisfactory I receive as a customer to these events. If anything I said in this post really offended any of you, then get over it and realize life is too short for things to suck. Try to make things better next time or else don't volunteer to be staff or run these events if you can't take CRITICISM.
You're the perfect person to do this man. A seasoned tournament veteran that the community respects and can therefor make an actual impact. Things like this will be essential to the improvement of our tournament experience.

I can't wait till you come check out my new venue in Atlanta. We should be ready to open our doors in March and it is going to be epic FGC evolution. The venue is just the beginning.

Aight I can admit I was out of line and it looks like me and you have done similiar things for our communities, been around since I was 15 so I can respect the work. Was just annoyed with a ton of the DTN stuff because people were being mad cryptic about shit and it just seemed like people wanting everything but not willing to show up. If I make it out to a EC tournament this year lets drink a couple, play some matches, and be cool.

Well when a person is asking around and the only thing eh gets back is "LOL not a major" and that's it it's easy to get the wrong impression.

Ask questions next time

dont jump to conclusions and call someone pathetic

This mean you don't like me?
You know, I think monitor lag is actually a brilliant idea that should be implemented intentionally. It allows online players to experience online lag offline and truly captures the netcode translation well in a tournament setting. This way, the barrier between both offline and online is lowered, and the community can grow as th-hahahahhahahahahaha!

was just thinking this haha

Also just wondering if any of the players that did experience lag use cronus converters? I had massive problems on all setups using those and they will glitch out ports, introduce lag, etc. I know some of the MK/Injustice players use them because a lot of them are PS3 pad players

Hi REO, thank you for posting your thoughts on Defend the North. It is always good when players voice their opinions. As the consumers of these events it is important that your voice is heard! Although I empathize with what a TO has to go through to even try to run an event of this size and it seems the main TO of DTN has his eye on improvement, at the end of the day it matters what was delivered and whether the customer feels he got his money worth.

As a TO with my own tournament coming up, Kumite in Tennessee, I find this kind of feedback invaluable. I would absolutely love if you came to KiT and critiqued the performance of me and my crew like a food critic coming to a new restaurant. I hope you have at least heard of it by now - if not please pay attention to our stream and what people say about it. In fact I value feedback so much I am going to hand out surveys on top 8 day and offer a raffle prize to those who complete it. I want to be the best of both worlds - close enough to the community to know what it wants in the first place and professional enough to deliver the experience like MLG.

I believe if you bother to have a game at your tournament you should take care of it, and in the case of Injustice we are giving it top billing. Cash payouts equal to any other game ($1000 pot), top 8 3/5 on Sunday afternoon, plenty of setups, and a published schedule we will follow to the tee.

I really didn't want to give this away until we did our next KiT Cast, but since I am here and want to convince you to spend that hard earned money to come I might as well showcase it. This is a hand crafted custom doomsday trophy we will award to first place on top of the $700. It is not 100% ready as we dont have the plaque printed yet, but this is actually worth more than our first place cash prize:

Major props to you for doing this. I won't be able to attend but I'm super pumped to watch.

@R.E.O. do you only sleep 4 hours...that's crazy is it. 6 hour there and back or 6 hour to get that's, if it's 6 hours to get there I would quit, fuck that.

Oh, and I did have fun hanging with players like Revolver, Claude, 7l, Aquaman, James, Tom Brady, Insuperable, DarthArma, Grr, KDZ, Rico, etc. etc. BUT this has nothing to do with the quality of the tournament and is a completely different story.
glad to see you back! hope we get to chill soon. going to WB?

Wow it must have been bad for REO to be this unhappy about it. Ive been to lots of tournaments with him and usually he can always make the best of a less than perfect situation. I mean, he slept under a sink once and that didn't bother him.
Him under the sink was the best shit ever. LOL!

"Where's REO?"

*Everyone looks around, settling on a mass of blankets just curled up under the sink*
