pfft 16bit plsI agree with the OP, CS. The perfect tournament for the start of a new era. Stunning. I couldn't have rigged a more exciting event.
I'm not intending to blame anyone specifically, but the money isn't the issue -- I would have happily contributed to help with the streaming costs; instead I ended up contributing to Pig of the Hut to cover the rest of his unexpected 4g costs for streaming the night.CrimsonShadow
You cant blame streamers for not having a 4g card just cause art, vic ans bifu have one. we dont make money off of the stream so no one can blame certian streamers for not signing a contract and pay a monthly fee for something we may need like 10 times a year. If money was being made then thats a different story
If you continue that line of logic, then you can't expect streamers to bring any streaming equipment at all. We appreciate what you do, but we also expect you to do it if you say you're going to do it.CrimsonShadow

Doesn't 4g cards require a 1 or 2 year contract plus a monthly fee?I'm not intending to blame anyone specifically, but the money isn't the issue -- I would have happily contributed to help with the streaming costs; instead I ended up contributing to Pig of the Hut to cover the rest of his unexpected 4g costs for streaming the night.
So look at it this way; who's responsibility is it -- Pig, who was worried about having to play in the tournament, or the people who agreed and said that they would stream the pools?
If we need to raise some bread (especially for a tournaments as big as NEC and TFC) to support we can do that; but to simply not have a 4g card becomes a bit of a disaster given the internet situation at majors.
I think a lot of people just add a 4g modem device to their current provider's cell phone bill -- which is a small extra monthly amount and then whatever overages you incur at majors.Doesn't 4g cards require a 1 or 2 year contract plus a monthly fee?
interesting tournament, well I'll play injustice KI and the Capcom FG got my attention, CANT WAIT FOR ULTRA
Wait, you want the people who traveled to play the game ( ..and therefore do not need a stream to watch the hype matches) to pay an extra fee that will not go into the pot, so that you who is sitting at home can watch? Sir, please refrain from sharing such terrible ideas with the general public. Good day Sir, NO props for you! You get nothing. If monetization of stream viewership is an issue, there are other solutions. Maybe talk to the TO to increase the tournament fee by $1 per person to cover the streaming costs, if that'll cut it.
We don't say fuck it. We always try to get a 4g card. Shock can you chime in on this. At this point, if you say you're going to stream a tournament and then don't bring a 4g card, you're basically saying 'there's a 50% chance [or less] that I'm going to stream the tournament.' It's clear that venue internet isn't reliable.

Look into making more advertising deals - not just through the Twitch ad revenue program, but along the line of Spooky's deals with MadCatz and that eCig company. But don't just say 'fuck it.'
Well to be honest, where do you think the rest of the entry (venue + game) money that doesn't go to the pot goes? To tournament cots; promotion, organization, venue and equipment costs etc. If streaming is an accepted tournament cost in 2013, then it falls into that category.Wait, you want the people who traveled to play the game ( ..and therefore do not need a stream to watch the hype matches) to pay an extra fee that will not go into the pot, so that you who is sitting at home can watch? instead of a pot bonus to make up for it, make winter brawl 3/5 instead of 2/3. find a way to make it happen is a way better apology IMO, that way the entire community get it, rather than top 3. BigE i've been talking to a few people around our community about this and may have an idea on how to make this happen easily.I don't know if it's been mentioned, but big e apologized for the streaming situation before top 8 on Sunday and mentioned that he might be adding a good pot bonus at winter brawl to make up for it
Players already have to pay a venue fee to support the misc. costs of the tournament. If $100 or so is enough to cover the card, I'd gladly chip in one extra dollar. $1 isn't going to make or break anyone's decision to go to a tournament, and if it's a way to shift the costs off of one person, then it's fine.Wait, you want the people who traveled to play the game ( ..and therefore do not need a stream to watch the hype matches) to pay an extra fee that will not go into the pot, so that you who is sitting at home can watch? That's out of context. I was saying don't say 'fuck it' to preparing in advance and not risking the possibility of not having a stream. Obviously props go to those who did everything they could to fix the situation. We don't say fuck it. We always try to get a 4g card. Shock can you chime in on this. Too busy at work to fully reply
As a player who used to attend tournaments frequently, I can say that streams don't matter to me. I can also say that the introduction of streaming did not increase attendance at tournaments and did not keep relevant interest in a game alive. A game only last as long as people are willing to play it, watching it has nothing to do with it. I also don't think venue fees should cover the cost of streaming. If the venue fee that is charged to secure the venue results in a surplus, I would rather that money go to pot bonuses.Well to be honest, where do you think the rest of the entry money that doesn't go to the pot goes? Whether you agree with his specific suggestion or not, you can't act like it's totally ludicrous.
If I went to a major I'd gladly chip in a dollar to make sure that people could watch my matches. Because the more people that stop caring about the game, the worse things get until eventually you don't have a tournament to go to in the first place.
I can't speak for your specific past communities -- but definitely in ours you can pinpoint specific events that really raised hype and helped interest people in travelling to play the game.As a player who used to attend tournaments frequently, I can say that streams don't matter to me. Can I choose NEC 2013 as the case-in-point?I can't speak for your specific past communities -- but definitely in ours you can pinpoint specific events that really raised hype and helped interest people in travelling to play the game.
I definitely wouldn't be here if it weren't for streams, because that's the thing I saw that made me aware that MK9 had events in the first place.
Actually here's an example from your current scene:As a player who used to attend tournaments frequently, I can say that streams don't matter to me. You are misunderstanding me. I am not against someone deciding to stream a tournament. What I don't like is being forced to pay a fee to support it when I am at attendance for that tournament. If some guy wants to pay for it out of his own pocket, I am not going to stop him. As to the benefits/disadvantages of streaming, I don't think there is a statistical difference in attendance (positive or negative) because of it.Actually here's an example from your current scene:
When Injustice dropped I had no idea that there was a weekly for it in NJ. Then one day, I was browsing Twitch for IGAU streams and came across one called '8 on the Break'. And I was like "that's interesting; I wonder where this is?"
So in stream chat I asked "where is this held?" and after being ignored for awhile, someone finally replied "Dunellen, NJ" (I think it was MarlinPie or Jaxel). So of course I was stunned, and the first thing I did was to go start spreading the word to people in the NY area that there was a nearby weekly they could go to and bridge communities.
After we all got to know each other, eventually there was a player from that community that I helped attend a major which he did very well at, because he wasn't going to go due to his current situation.
That's streaming come full circle -- and that's part of why it's important.
I'm not just saying this because I'm a fellow Raven main but Ducky is on another level. It's exactly like you said, he knows his shit. He knows the holes in strings, he knows his punishes, his reactions and blocking are near flawless, he knows what the opponent can do and he knows how to deal with it. The guy is prepared. It frustrates me to see so many players still getting away with murder, and so far Ducky is the only one I've seen who consistently doesn't let you get away with a damn thing.Ducky, on the other hand, was so on point with his tactics and it was like he had tons of MU experience against every character he played. And his counter-poking made me feel like he was playing MK9 lol. Dat d1 out of Supes' trait cancel.
hahaha im focusing in KI in Ultra too, umvc3 and injustice a little
Your match with Slayer was absolutely insane. I loved hanging out with you and the Florida dudes. Thanks for the shout CrimsonShadow, I did come to try and top 8 above all else. Although I came up short, im not even salty anymore for choking vs Slayer and mentally fucking myself for my next match and not even getting out of pools after I played phenomenally vs CD Prine, J Rosa, Relaxed State and Slayer.
Shout out west coast, ALL of them as cool as ever. Shout out east coast, shout to THIS FUCKING TOURNEY, the best Ive ever attended. Personal shoutout to AK Pig Of The Hut, helping to ensure shit was streamed/recorded. We deserved this as a communtiy. The streamed matches were pure fucking quality and thats excluding all the amazing play that happened before stream was even up. I was on the floor from the moment pool 1 started, watched every pool and maaaaaannnnnn.
People. Attend tournaments. Please. Injustice is dead? Fuck that. I gotta paraphrase @GGA16Bit here... If you aint with us, move along. If you are, remember it is US who'll keep our game alive.
Congrats again GGA pimpimjim
One last thing...But for real though, no bias...I know Theo vs Tyrant happened but wasn't Kitana Prime vs Slayer a Match the Year candidate? Thats how we felt immediately after.
Damn Hollywood mike metroid! Cage of America?it wasn't the second place that really made me feel proud it was beating washed up Sonic Fox
