A few KEY points here..
1. LP chains dont have the reach of MP chains, making the MP chains the best option unless you are in rang 0-1
2. Your MP, HP is combo punished. You can MP, HP ~ Heavy Ragged Edge but that is also combo punished. You can use Medium Ragged Edge but characters like Jago can punish with Heavy DP, and the recovery makes it hard to avoid being put into pressure situations after being blocked. You can use Light Ragged Edge which is the best option because its -1, but its an easy shadow counter if the opponent has meter.
3. As the game evolves you will find that when the opponent has meter: You can't poke with MP, HP as a hit confirmable poke because its unsafe. You cant make it safe by using the Light ragged Edge, because even though the attack is safe on block, you WILL be shadow countered. You can use LP, MP has a hit confirm into Ragged Edge, but you need to be REALLY close to use that.
The solution is to abuse B + HP, especially when the opponent has meter. Its a single attack that can be hit confrmed and is adv when blocked. You can also charge the attack for better adv/unblockable properties and added range. When blocked: you can B + HP/charge again (can be interrupted), use a LP attack chain (cannot be interrupted unless the attack has inv frames on startup), throw, jumping slash/slide 50/50, etc... Literally EVERY option becomes available..
Also.. for a 50/50 when in close, use Instant Jumping Slash. By doing it instantly, the RUN animation never comes out, making it something that you can no loner react to. You can mix that up with an instant slide, or crouching LP chains. The instant jumping slash comes out so fast, it causes the opponent to commit to high block, freeing up a safe crouching LP chain as a low.
