"Believe in magic yet?" - Zatanna Match-Up Discussion thread

Every Zatanna I've played online with my Bane. I've wrecked handily for the most part. Even when they start trait zoning it doesn't take much to get in. Then once Bane is in I don't think Zatanna wants to trade footsies and strings with Bane. His 113 charge corpsehop game is too good for her. Since it reverses wakeup... so you'll end up teleporting in place or not at all due to her teleport being semi tricky inputs anyway.

Her Zoning is fine but its nothing absolutely insane but, I don't really use her melee. I've recently just been hit and running until I can bait a Puppet Master MB punish. Then try to go clear their helath bar with 1 constant barrage. Then once the game mechanic forces me to back off. Repeat. Typically its 4 to 6 MB Puppet Masters (naked or otherwise) and you've won the match. Unless you have someone that guesses right with the greatest of ease. Then at that point Zatanna players. Just play batgirl :joker:

does it punish or interupt it ? superman is bullshit, his ground laser that he arcs upward autocorrects if you read it and teleport behind, i just barely lost a match because of that, no move should auto correct, im sorry

I haven't had any issues with Bane. Also ironically I haven't had too hard of a time with Aquaman either...He's a pain to deal with any cast member though. Batgirl gives Zatanna a hard time. Black Adam isn't too big of a threat IMHO. I personally think the character most frustrating to deal with so far is Hawkgirl. She is just annoying and none of Zatanna's tricks seem to 'work' against her. Ugh. Such a niche character.

how are you beating black adam? i cannot find a way to punish anything he does...

I've started to realize that Black Adam doesn't have many good anti-air options against Zatanna. When he's up close, either a JI or neutral J3 will beat out anything he tries to do (Need to test against his lightning pillar move thing though). Cards hits him out of his foot dive, but I would not recommend attempting to punish a blocked foot dive with a standing 3, because he can just jump over and hit you with his crossup kick he has. In that case, maybe backdash and F3 to punish whatever advancing move he attempts to do from mid-screen.

Finally, if you anticipate he's going to try to out zone you with his lightning, teleporting behind and nailing him with 223 into trance or your favorite combo will usually be met with success. Every Black Adam plays differently, but once you have him playing your game with his lack of anti-air options in mind, you'll either give him a good match or beat him.

With Bane, if I even see the starting animation for his charge, I will teleport behind him to avoid the dash, and then teleport again to get next to him when he's in recovery for full punish. Zatanna's ability to be either full-screen distance away or up close and in your face at will really shines in this matchup.

the problem with black adam is that he just has better answers and way higher damage for everything..a good black adam player will not lose to zatanna, his zoning and pressure is just better. Her teleport doesnt have a very fast start up which i find problematic in this match up. I havent tried using playing cards as a counter to his dive, but I havent found a single thing that punishes it on block, youre right that standing 3 doesnt work on that.

With Bane, Doing a teleport on reaction to his rush works perfectly but I dont find that good bane players do that move unless they know its safe. Once he gets in your face I find theres not much you can do. I beat Banes online all the time, but they are the ones mindlessly doing his rush move. Still with patience, I find the match up is relatively even.

I was a solid 33-34 true skill when i mained batgirl and im about 28 with zatanna, still I love being the under dog and winning matches with zatanna is a lot more satisfying.. I feel like every match is like a boss fight lol fun times

i would love to see more high level play videos of her, so by all means record some!

personally with this character I like to learn/add a new thing each week to add to my game. I feel like this is a good way to learn her since she is complex

I agree with most too, also i think that hawkgirl defeats Zatanna 6-4
I think Catwoman defeats her too, and she does well against gl but i agree that it is a 5-5 against someone who knows the MU
And Deathstroke is definitelya losing MU
Possibly. The only reason I had it at 5-5 is zats rings prevent hg from running, and her dive kick helps to punish whiff mace charge easily.

Yes, Hawkgirl can't fly full screen vs her tho, but she can evade it with an air mace charge, but if Zatanna has the life lead she can run all day with backwards teleport. The problem is to get the life lead lol :/

I don't want to set anything in stone, but after playing multiple GLs I'm starting to think this is 7-3 in Zatanna's favor. GL's lack of mobility really kills him in this MU which is very crucial end game when you're able to wager and get fullscreen from him. I dunno, just watch the video for yourself. I'll say this, he definitely didn't know the MU in the beginning matches, but even when he started to understand the MU, I'd always have the upper hand. Starts 24:45

Yeah, to make that hit consistently, you have to hold down after the d2 hits which makes the d2 recover faster. I think it's a glitch, but slightly improves her BnB and AA combos.

oh interesting, ill give it a shot, it would def change some combos... just out of curiosity, he never seem to punish a blocked multi kick, can you only throw her after that or does he have time to do his lift? plus you kill me with that d1 into multi kicks, i have a hard time pulling that off for some reason, but nice to see you often use an instant air multi kick, love doing that!

i have to say, i was playing an ares, did an mb fireball(slow version) as he teleported behind me and started a combo, he could only do half the combo as he was pushing me into the fireball ... pretty funny

I kinda even forget she has that move lmao. I gotta figure out some uses for it. I don't want to use it during mb puppet master, I have so many meterless mixups during that, it seems like a waste.

i havent found much use either, other than remembering mid match that she has the move and throwing it out for fun.... i should mess with it more, though the start up is so slow ... i also never use mb air kick, is there really a reason to waste the meter?

On block, she's positive, so if you get the feeling they'll block it, you can spend the bar.

This guy says the Zatanna GL is a 7-3 in Zatanna's favor. I think that is somewhat accurate she does seem to have a lot of tools that counter GL's. Maybe 7-3 is a stretch but it does seem Zatanna is a pretty tough match up.
