Kitana Prime

Top-tier at everything but the characters I choose
I personally dont think theres one bad character in this game. That is a true accomplishment to me. I just think we're (collectively) making the mistake of thinking every character is fully fleshed out already. People just need to chill, and you up players (not saying youre wrong about your characters) - need to get out to tournaments. This will decidedly help determine the balance. Sure there's bad matchups here and there, but every game has those. Whatever.

Straight up.

Really? I don't play TTT2 but I see it played all the time at the local arcade and it seems like I always see the same 6 characters or so. Especially the dude with the mechanical arm.
Character popularity doesn't necessarily imply that that character is top tier.

But really, TTT2's balance is fantastic. For a game with 50+ fighting styles in it, almost everyone has the tools they need to compete. At most maybe 3-4 characters are unviable, and one of them (Dr.B) is very obviously designed as a joke character anyway. The only characters that stand out as noticeably better than everyone else are the Mishimas, and that's because of their EWGF (which is frustratingly hard to sidewalk now). However, they each have their own flaws (half-baked mid pokes, risky lows, poor tech crouch/jump ability etc.) that stop them from being over-the-top good.

But Injustice is a totally different kettle of fish, and all things considered, since they were obviously trying to make each character play as unique as possible (unlike the Tekken series where most characters have broadly similar strategies), they did a decent job. Making it so that all 30 characters are viable when they all have such conflicting fighting styles is... not necessarily impossible, but extremely fucking difficult, especially when it's a brand new fighting game which doesn't have any prequels to build off of (the Tekken series has basically been building on top of Tekken 3's engine for a decade and a half now, so has had a lot of time to refine the balance) In such an event that balancing a character is an insurmountable task (i.e. they're either going to be overpowered or underpowered, and getting the middle ground is not practically possible), opting for them to be underpowered is always the better option. To provide a (highly) simplistic example - if you have 25 solid characters, and 5 crappy ones, those 25 characters will be viable (and 25 viable characters out of 30 is a great success rate for a fighting game). However, if you have 5 overpowered characters, then at worst, only those 5 overpowered characters will be viable (5 out of 30 is a very poor success rate).

With all of that in mind, I have to congratulate NRS on reaching a reasonable compromise on the game's balance. The Tekken series took 14 years to do that. The Street Fighter series took 19 years to do that. Mortal Kombat still hasn't done it after 19 years. NRS did it on their very first installment, with only a few months' worth of patching.

And this is why, although certain individual properties of moves annoy me like fuck, I can't come down too hard on them, simply because they did a solid job with the resources available to them.

Too early to tell

Supes F23 nerf and air laser recovery make mid range more challenging, He's still strong and stupid in the corner but against competing tops he has issues, well deserved nerfs.

I feel the game will play out pretty much the same, just fewer mus are now 9-1 on paper.

I've been playing injustice since the launch and still play it a lot. Balance or no balance, my love for this game is because it's DC.
If you have trouble in game, replicate the situation.. until you don't have trouble.. what happened to adaptation these days? Have people given up because of being beaten by supes and black adam ?

Less complaining, more learning.

All I would really like is for every character to have one solid footsie tool that occupies a slightly varied general speed but still in the same ish kind of area.

But this game is definitely balanced as far as an extremely diverse roster goes.

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
It "feels" fairly balanced , but lets give it 4 months before we decide that. We may find some distinctly powerful top tier drifting through our ranks that might upset this impression or something after folks learn the new matchup strengths and tools based on the changes of this patch. I'm distinctly eye-ing Lobo due to his overhead and low starters with his newfound ability to get in and use them. Also Bane is suspect because in theory his health buffs were just offsetting his debuff losses, but for that to be true it'd mean you would HAVE to hit him during debuff at some point and a patient Bane is really carefull about footsies during debuff. As he is I cant tell if he's about to shoot up the ranks into a real contender or just remain a strong but balanced mid to high tier in select hands like those of Mustard or Grrr.

Everything about "Balanced or not?" comments is suspect at the moment...the game essentially starts over at a lot of levels right now so lets hold off on our opinions of overall roster viability till we've had some time to play out the new tech.

Hates NRS for making me not like Superman
I really enjoy playing this now, cant wait for the next major to watch how the top 8 pans out.
Lemme answer that one for you. Top 8 will consist of 3 Supermans , 2 Black Adams, 1 Chris G and 2 other, one of those likely being an Aquaman. The top characters haven't been hit hard enough to warrant mass droppings, but more than that, they've grown attached to their characters and want to put their best foot forward, so they will use what we know. Wait another month or so and then we'll really see a difference

Lmao. Yeah must be so tough maining a top 3 character....
HOLD UP DAWG YOU USE SONYA!!! YOUR OPINION MEANS DIDDLY!

Kung Lao was not top 3.

Yeah dude, how can Kung Lao be top 3 when he loses to Cage, Kitana, Cyrax and Kabal? That's 4 bad matchups. Characters like Kenshi and Cyrax only have one bad matchup. Sonya only has 3 bad matchups. Kabal has 0 bad matchups.

Kung Lao definitely ranks under all those characters, I'll give him #5 or #6, not top 3

I hope you're being sarcastic lol.

Kitana higher then Kung Lao? That made me laugh. Who said that Kenshi (a side from optimistic Pig of the Hut) has only 1 bad MU? God its either downplayers or upplayers on TYM, lol.

I think you misread his post. Kitana is a bad MU for KL, she's not higher than him. Also, I think Pig of the Hut definitely agrees that Kenshi has few bad MUs.

I'm not talking about Kitana being higher than Kung Lao, that is just one of his bad matchups. I'm talking about Cyrax, Kenshi, Sonya, and Kabal all being higher than Kung Lao because they all have less bad matchups than him.

Also I have used Kenshi myself, and I have played Pig 1000 times so I agree with his Kenshi matchup chart. If anything Kenshi only loses to Kung Lao and Kabal, but DEFINITELY nobody else. Which still makes him #2 or #3 in the game because he beats half the cast 7-3 or worse

He didn't say Kit is better than Lao. He was talking about Sonya, kenshi and Kabal.

Also, I could've sworn pig had kenshi with like 6 bad MUs.

Yea, you're right i misreaded the part about Kitana / KL. Sorry about that.

About Kenshi - he definitely has few bad MU, not one for sure. Dunno if i remember correctly but in latest Kenshi MU chart Pig actually wrote that he doesnt have any bad mu and one even with Kabal. Which in my opinion is false, thou feel free to correct me if he didnt post that.

i love this game. i just hope ppl move away from the arguing and pettiness now. and moving forward let the game evolve and stay competitive and give players the credit the deserve and not blame it on specific characters. i believe now that the game is much more balanced, it will allow the fundamentals to shine and not "oh well you play a braindead character."

My point is that Kabal is for sure #1 in the game, Kenshi and Cyrax are for sure #2 and #3, and Sonya is higher on the tier list than Kung Lao as well. So how does that make Kung Lao top 3?
