Trust me, I'm a doctor
I understand your explanation for why people are off, I'm just not ok with that meaning it's fine for them to spread incorrect information on the forums. We're all trying to get better here, throwing out bloated figures you didn't bother to check helps no one and there's no excuse for doing it.
And it's still just kind of ridiculous when the answer is on the screen 100 times in the EVO footage. We don't take our damage information from looking at a health bar and generalizing, the game tells you numbers. Just add them together. This is why combo threads don't go, "It does a little less than half your opponent's health bar," they say "47%." DJT did the same bnb over and over again (off of 12 his does like 80%), and yet announcers are just off-handedly going "This is gonna do 90%."
This community doesn't believe he does "90%+" (seriously, that number shows up so often it hurts) because they're looking at health bars and guessing, though. This community just spreads the lie that he does 90%+ every time he touches you and people just kind of believe it without actually checking it out, then continue to regurgitate it over and over again, further ingraining the idea, and it seems the same thing is gonna happen with Supes. That's what my original gripe was with. People throw out asspull numbers when we as a community should be as scientific and precise as possible.
I can understand your point and I also dislike misinformation, but not everyone want to go back and count percentages and it just has to be accepted that people will generalize because not every combo will be alike. Some character you'll want more advantage against, some characters you'll want to go straight damage, some characters you'll want to make distance from, and some you'll want to drop into another bomb set-up. I'm not saying its fine, but I'm saying its a problem that does not realistically harm anything seriously because even if they are wrong, they are not wrong by much.
Announcers also generalize, but its not their job to be correct all the time. Announcers say all the time in Grr's matches "At level 3 venom he should just be doing f.2 dash cancel" when in reality its nowhere near that simple or effective, its simply a means to an end. Its their job to call what they are seeing as they see it, they don't have the advantage of retrospect like we do. They don't have time to add mid-match and say "this definitely does 81%", they have to call it and generalize.
Where did the idea come from? Also as I said in the first bit, most people don't want to check it out and the result isn't too far off anyways. Given combos could end a variety of ways, I'm sure DJT could land a 90% combo or even a triple bomb reset if he wanted to, but he does a stable 80-82% BnB reset and people see it and say "that's over 3/4 of their health and they are almost dead" and generalize it about 8-10% off of its true value. Its just going to happen, I'm not saying its ok but that its better to just accept that it happens and try to spread the right info instead of opting to berate the wrong info instead.
