Can't we all just get along?

OP, I just read the article.

It has words like "cheap", "spam" and "I had to do the same combos to win".

There was not "learning to punish", "footsies" or "optimized damage".

Casual people have no place in these conversations, as simple as that.
You're kidding me right? Because he used certain words over others and decided not to write 2 more pages elaborating on other effective strategies revolving around a specific game means that his entire point is invalid?

He wasn't writing a strategy guide or giving a seminar, he gave an opinion from the point of view of a player and spectator. Just because you, whoever you are, disagree doesn't mean his logic is flawed.

Open question then.

Why is using a set of 2 or 3 combos, or a set of 2 or 3 special moves "Cheap", while using a more diverse set of moves and combos is not?

Trust me, I'm a doctor
Casual player = for fun
Top player and tournament player = $$$

though i agree with you on recent complaining
Psh, if they want money they should learn to play Dota 2, that's some lucrative business practice.
Instead of complaining, learn Batrider and try to get your APM up is what I wanna say to them personally.

"Casual" isn't a measure of how good you are, it's simply a measure of how often you play.

The mark of a really good casual player is they know their character very well. Their limitation isn't that they don't know how basic mechanics work, it's that they haven't played long enough to know how to punish the unsafe attacks of the rest of the cast, might not be familiar with an opponent's poke range, etc. These are things that will lose you games, but doesn't indicate a lack of knowledge of fundamentals, only experience.

A casual player might be willing to learn how the game works, but doesn't play enough to use the knowledge effectively. If I play a casual, and they keep using a punishable moving, which I punish, they'll stop using it. A scrub, on the other hand, will just ragequit because they refuse to change the way they play if it isn't effective. They demand the game accommodate their playstyle.

Very well said. Again the definition of what "scrubby" is differs from person to person, but everything you said as far describing a casual player is very accurate.

I am a casual player, and I don't try to go crazy with the battle strategy most of the time. I came here looking for new ways to play. Injustice used my love of DC to get me into fighting games. Here, I have learned basic game mechanics and how the games should go. I know the different battle plans (offense, defense, zoning, etc.). I believe I should be the liaison between the pros and the casuals.

It's not to say that those 2 or 3 moves per-se are cheap, but the mind-set applied is to find a "cheap" way to use them. Like you can throw hadukons over and over, forcing your opponent to either block or jump, but the last jump to get inside is met with a dragon uppercut. Sure it works, but it is a fairly cheap way to win.

That's kind of why I hate hearing all this hatred (irony?) towards those who don't want to be a walking encyclopedia. I consider myself a casual player, but I'm where you are. I understand which moves are safe, punishable, etc, but I'm not interested in memorizing frame-data for every move with every character.

GGA Dizzy I love how you post some of the most trolliest posts in some threads and get uber srs in other threads lol

And what's with everyone being so emo lately?

Haha. I'm not trying to be emotional, as I'm not really mad or sad about any of this; It just seems like there is always an "I hate people who aren't as smart as the developers; because I am! Fuck casuals." mentality that gets brought up after the upper-echelon of posters start to bitch.

I play DBZ for casual play, MK and IGAU are my competitive games. Likewise with Halo 3...fuck any halo game after that. But then again I was raised to be the best at everything so...to each their own. «Generalization»

I always thought a casual player was a person who didn't spend every waking minute playing a video game. What's so filthy about that? It's far more filthy to be the jobless socially inept deoderant fearing dude that knows everything about whatever game they play IMO. I consider myself casual because I play once a week if possible, but I understand the game's mechanics, punishes, character strengths/weaknesses, etc.

Whoa, you don't complain about Superman/Black Adam/etc.? You can do every combo imaginable? You must get allllll the chicks.

People complain about the simplest shit but they all have a simple solution.
Game too boring? Play a different character or even a different game.
Game too easy? Play a harder character or a harder game.
Don't like scrubs ruining the game? Try to educate some of these players instead of making fun of these players( not entirely possible, I understand).
Too many of the same characters? Play against people you know don't play those characters and don't watch the tournament streams when these characters are on.
Zoning is too strong? Play against people who play rush down characters or practice getting around zoning.
Superman, batman and Wonder Woman have too many costumes? Why the fuck does it even matter? They are the most popular characters so it makes some sense.
Don't like zatanna or wonder woman's face? Don't look at it or play a different character. Better yet focus on the match and not their face.

I agree with some points made and disagree with others. I believe certain pro and high level players have secret "scrub" mentalities that we are seeing with this game, because it is just so different. However, for me, I don't care what's cheap, what's too good, what's shitty. I just want to figure out what is going to give me the best chance to win, no matter how cheap it is, use that to win, and have fun doing it. Just play the damn game. If it isn't giving you what you want (boring, cheap, whatever) then don't play, I can respect that. But don't just bitch about everything, figure out how to stop it or quit already.
