What's new

The absolute RIDICULOUSNESS of tournament settings now...

I think it should be 3/5.

And I liked the idea proposed by (I think) REO in one of the Kryptonite Council episodes that the first match being truly random by whatever the stage is from the P2 side. If done by thre P1 side it's not really random because you can see it on the character select screen.

Only GGA HAN agreed with me. I'd like to repeat my suggestion: 3/5 and random stage EVERY match. Just like the 3D games.

I dont need to elaborate because I agree totally. The counter arguments that has been outlined in this thread and elsewhere is that its "too hard to police random stage" due to there being no random button. I doubt that we could talk sense into the people in the counter-pick stage camp due to this. TBH it is the only argument against random stage that isn't illogical.

Personally I don't think it would be hard to enforce P2 random stage rule. We already have to tell our opponent to not 50/50 and we have to make sure they don't hit "default" on the controls screen...we are already paying attention to these things as it is. Random stage would not be a big deal.

This will always be a world of 2/3 aha. But idc if it changes to 3/5. With stages there is no random because you can see it before you pick your char. Just got to deal with stages. It gives cerrain chars adv but oh well got to deal with it. Interactables need a nerf imo. That is too much damage unblockable. It should be 10% maximum. Or make it easier to dodge them. Backdash doesnt always get the jp done when you have interact oki setups lol

even tho we can see the stage before we get there, we can do the (wait for P2 to pop up on the stage selection screen and go with that stage since we can't see that stage from the character select screen). Or we can just start off with the stage we see from the character select screen. It is a good idea because stages play a huge factor in matchups as we all know and other games with stages that play a different have this rule, so we should do the same thing. Loser picks just means a counterpick stage fest (like in mk9) and 50/50 gives someone way to strong of a chance to get their stage back again.

The only problem with this is once p2 presses A their finger could "slip" and press B to go back to character select.

It sounds stupid but it could happen.

As GGA Dizzy and MITDJT said, the P2's stage is the true random button. When the game first came out, my friend and I were doing double randoms by 50/50-ing the first stages our cursors selected. You could do that as well.

You dont get what I am saying though. You press A and it lands on the stage but it DOESNT select it. So if you press A and see a stage you dont like, you can "accidentally" press B and go back to stage select. Then again as long as your opponent sees it you can just force them to go back and play that stage.

if time permits... the longer the set... the more you are guaranteed to have the stronger player advance. i vote for longer sets. Tom Brady

the stage selection is a bit more tricky. random first stage then loser picks. picking a stage is almost the equivalent of choosing an ultra in sf4 based on the matchup. like it or not.. .its in the game.

if it is always an issue and nobody can come to a consensus then disable transitions and interactibles all together and be done with it.

That's not how it works. If player 2 backs out and goes back to player select the original random stage will still be highlighted when they pick characters again.

Yea, but it's to the players to pay attention what stage was it and just go back to it.

3/5

Random stage select at all times (P2 press 3 to appear highlighting a random stage). Stages carry too much of an advantage to allow a 50/50 coin toss decide their selection

so you want that much chance involved in your tournament set? No. I disagree man.

Picking a stage is as strategic as picking an ultra in SF4.

Every other FG does it, they seem to be doing fine.

It seperates those who have actually practiced every stage and those who only pick one stage.

The problem with being condescending is you make yourself look stupid when you are wrong.

No, there are no stages with interactables in other FGs. But there are stages with different walls/corners/ringouts that affect a match just as much as interactables do. The difference between an infinite stage in Tekken and a stage with close corners is completely different, plus you have wall and ground breaks which sort of act like interactables as they grant you full combos or combo extensions.

again... pretty sure the koreans attempt to pick stages without walls EVERY SINGLE TIME

Comparing stage picks to SSFIV is fucking retarded, stage matters in 3D games and stages are random in those and no one complains.

And even Korea moved over to choosing stages with random

I like Korea.

They have a neat flag.

There isn't even a Courtyard Day equivalent of a stage that everyone can agree on.

This is delusional.

Standard stage selection rules won't be possible until NRS patches in a Random Select feature in the Stage Selection screen.

Right now relying on the "Random" Stages for P1 and P2 is not optimal. P1's "random" stage is visible and easily countered at character selection. P2's "random" stage only selects the first level. And this only from a technical standpoint. We also have to consider the human / player factor, which will always be unreliable because players can --and will-- make claims that will lead to conflict, stalling, delays and whatnot.

Stop adding stupid ass DLC characters NRS and make a godamn Random stage button. That alone will kill all this bs.
3/5, random stage all the time. Loser can go back to re-random, every other fighter that has stages that effect gameplay does this, no stage picking. Always random and loser can go back to character select to re-random.
