Buying a console for one game alone is never woth it in my oppinion. I am playing games since the first Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt double feature cartridge on the NES. And every console cycle since then I had to make purchasing decisions on what system to go with. Ended up with a SNES (not the Mega Drive), Went with N64 (never considered the PS1), took the PS2 (over the XBox) and bought a Dreamcast as additional system as well as a Dreamcast. Then set out PS3 and Xbox360 launches on PC and picked up a PS3 3 years after release.
The closest I came to buy a console for a game, was the Dreamcast, but it took the triple combo of Soul Calibur, Resident Eveil Code Veronica and Phantasy Star Online to convince me. I normally go by ammout of exclusives and first party support. If there is that one game I really want and it is exclusive to one console, but the competition has 5 exclusives against it that I am interessted in, I would still go for the later. Current Gen for me was a no brainer this way, you had Forza, Gears of War, Halo VS. Metal Gear Solid, Gran Tourismo, Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, Heavy Rain, Infamous and so on...
For PS4 vs. XBO I can't really predict on the exclusives yet. The Xbox has more announces, but they haven't impressed me so far. Sony has the better track record and will carry over there well established franchises. So wait how it looks like at launch.
