NLBC Spooky Stream Drama

uhh because arturo was yelling 'ahhh collusion collusion' in his ear next to him.... what you are saying doesn't matter, these players are now being abused... this used to happen in professional sports in the early 20th century... TO's and corporate money telling players what is and what isn't ok, when they are making money off them... and you support this
How the fuck is telling players don't throw matches not okay? I don't understand the logic here.

Quick question. How much do you actually know about the game that was being played? As in could you even give me the name of it?

If KDZ picked Lobo and DJT picked Joker in the Grand Finals at EVO, you can be promised someone would've pulled the plug really quickly. You don't disrespect people like that, it doesn't matter who you are. If you made it to the finals as Sakura, play Sakura. Don't play a character you have no actual experience with while giggling with your buddy on someone elses time and payroll.
Sorry for only replying to this post, but EVO where plenty of money is on the line, compared to a weekly over $100 isn't a fair comparison. You go to weekly tournaments (which are basically casuals) to practice new tech and such.
Again, if the other players were in those Grand Finals no one would care who they played, regardless of how well or poorly they were doing so.

Both Chris G and Sanford have said that they played both characters picked. Chris G wanted to counterpick Sagat with Yang and Sanford in turn counterpicked with rog.

This was not handled the right way at all. I dont really care if it is his job, the job of the players is not to impress the stream. The job of the players is to win. And the fact that they cannot LAUGH while playing is a disgrace. People are playing video games, god forbid they have a bit of fun. Especially considering this is a LOCAL tournament, where tons of players like to work on alts or counterpick or hell even laugh a little.

This was unprofessional, unnecessary and this rule is going to be abused and taken to far. I really hate when people expect players to cater to stream monsters, they should be playing for THEMSELVES, and be allowed to make their own decisions. Even the Marvel VxG blowup was not "collusion" as both Chris and Flocker have openly admitted that they both played those teams before and were not in any way staging the grand finals.

And if you get tired of seeing players laugh and have a little fun in grand finals, then you better stop them from getting there. And if you can't, then you better shut up and just watch in hopes to learn something.

you're exactly right here... Spooky owes a huge apology to both these guys

Yes people do, if you got 3rd place and someone plays a character they've never used in the grand finals, its disrespectful to that 3rd place. If you are willing to give it your all to get to the finals, act like an adult and play them out at your best. No one likes to see thrown or colluded matches, and there is plenty of money on the line I.E. Spooky's sponsorships. People pull their sponsor money out for stuff like that, and he explains that later on.

Everyone cares who the finalists play, splitting money is one thing. No one cares about that, but if you are going to do it then at least do it playing a character you are strongest with. The main argument isn't "oh they were splitting money etc etc", its that they were doing it in a way that threatened more than just the tourney goer's feelings.

chores

bad at things
this particular case can be argued but i think the main point here is directly following VxG if you are chrisg i mean maybe try to play it safe? i mean wtf lol

why do you have this HUGE sense of entitlement as merely a free viewer? Chris G/Sanford aren't contractually obligated to spooky or madcatz..... they are free as human beings to play HOWEVER they want ...finals or not... it really blows my mind that you're running with this line of reasoning

Chris G. plays both Yang and Evil Ryu since vanilla AE; Sanford counter picked Yang.

Watch the short 2 minute video someone posted earlier, it shows they were playing it decently, it's not like they dashed in, lp, lp, dashed out.

The stream had plenty of views, thus ad views, thus it didn't threaten Spooky's job (especially with no proof, and both players explaining their story), it didn't threaten Spooky's revenue because the Stream Monsters didn't leave or anything. And the tourney goer's feelings shouldn't be hurt, if they made it to Grand Finals they most definitely have every right to play who they want to play.

And Art screaming "Collusion Collusion! Haha! Stream what do you think Collusion? Collusion! Don't Collude! Haha, Collusion? No Collusion? Collusion?" no doubt affected Spooky.

For one, you don't "counterpick" someone by picking first. Second is Sanford never cursored over Sagat, he went over Ryu which, to my knowledge, isn't countered by Yang.

If you got fired for not watching over an employee and ensuring they did their job, simply because they don't "have" to do that job, its still your job being lost because that employee didn't want to give it his all. I can promise you that you wouldn't say "Well its not your fault I lost my job". They can laugh, no one cares about that, but professionalism is another matter entirely. If you can't take the grand finals of a game seriously, then don't go for it. I've never seen Chris G or Sanford laugh that much at a Major final, so I can assume its not common practice.

I've seen some very poor Balrogs and that was one of them. As I said, if it wasn't "colluding" then they would've fought it more than what happened. However, everyone in the building and surrounding area was very aware of what was going on. I don't expect them to cater to the stream monsters, but I do expect them to play like professionals if they are going to take that grand final spot away from someone who would. You want to talk a lack of professionalism, its not the guy doing his job and putting a stop to it, its the people who are causing the problem in the first place.

I've already mentioned it, but for the sake of saying it again, teams who collude in the finals of any other sport or local game alike get the boot and never work in the industry again. Since the players aren't on payroll, they don't have to be mature or take things seriously, but for the people who are on payroll I stand by them pulling the plug on someone else jeopardizing it.

If I got third place at a tournament and the finalists sandbagged in the finals I would literally not give a shit. It's not like they are making the other players look bad. If you lost you lost and have no reason to get angry by someone else character choice after they've already beaten you lol.

Stream monsters and streamers should never dictate a tournament match. Streaming is a luxury and a priviledge, not some god given right to the FGC. If someone wants to throw GF then they can, because you know what? They fought their way to it. If that 3rd placer gets his feelings hurt by seeing them joke around in GFs then he should get his ass in gear and level up so he can beat their asses and laugh in GFs himself. People got to tournaments for THEMSELVES. No one should be forced to cater to stream monsters, they should be able to make their own decisions.

Spooky didnt even let them play out the match, for all we know Sanford could have beat Chris G with Rog and forced him to counterpick, which would lead him to go back to Sagat. But instead he pulled the plug like a child because his stream didnt get to see what they wanted. Well too fucking bad, I didnt like watching Kabals win most MK9 majors but I sure as hell would never go up to someone and say they have to play someone else. I also would never cuss at someone for trying out a new character at a local, for all we know they could have been working on that MU as an alt since this was a FREAKING LOCAL.

Chris G hadn't played Yang all tourney, why start now? Why pick before his opponent? Also you make no mention of Stanford's obviously extensive Balrog usage. I've seen actual grand finals on more than one occation, and I can tell you that you probably don't pick your ultra before you even know what the opponent's character is. That's not even grand final stuff, that's common knowledge.

I watched it live and the video, I've seen Balrogs and let me tell you the difference is obvious. Once again, mind listing Stanford's balrog usage for me?

It doesn't matter about views, it matters about what the higher ups see. If they saw spooky letting something like that rock on his stream, it doesn't matter how many people were watching Mad Catz would pull funding. They've done it before, theres a reason that Colluding is a big deal. Most tourney goer's would take it seriously, so yeah you might not agree but its not very good to see someone take that spot and make a mockery of it.

Doubtful since he had done it more than just then and Spooky didn't act. He has been around tourneys longer than you or Brandon, I'd assume he knows it when he sees it.

the sad part... when they were asking 'we aren't allowed to choose the characters we play"...

spooky's response was "whatever, i don't give a fuck"...

yeah real professional

It may be unsportsmanlike, but its not wrong.

Still though, the only people who have an opinion that matter here are sponsors and to's. they put the hard work into creating these events, they set the rules.

They do when its their money being wasted/risked. If you want to throw a match, do it off stream in your own time. No one is asking you to take it seriously, but you should expect people to not appreciate you afterwards. Just like how they have no rule that says they have to play at their best, theres no rule that says Spooky has to let them waste his stream's time or money. You are right, its a local. Spooky bodied them both off the stream and told them to do it somewhere else, as is his right as a streamer to dictate what he does and does not want put on his stream. Its a $100 prize pool, so his couple hundred in equipment and the could thousand in subscription money take priority.

All I'm saying is there are plenty of casual matches to do that in. You don't need to do it in the grand finals on stream where, if its obvious colluding, someone could lose sponsorship money over it. They left and played somewhere that wasn't that stream and I heard Stanford didn't use Balrog. Might just be rumors, but yeah. You are right, its a local. At a major, they won't pull it again. You know what? I bet if they get to GF again they won't be doing a Yang/rog match either. Call it a hunch.

Like how Infiltration plays Hakan extensively during tournaments and not just to counterpick? Mind you, that was at EVO too, not a weekly tournament.

Make a mockery of it? You mean play the game they want to play it, with the characters they want to play?

He's getting views, he's getting pool money, he's getting ad views. He's making plenty of money - Mad Catz wouldn't pull funding over this. If Mad Catz were for MLG there would be no possible way in hell they would keep Spooky after his display today, screaming at the players to "Get the fuck out.", saying "I don't give a fuck." as his only counter-argument. Insanely unprofessional.

Anyone who thinks that this was merely about a character choice doesn't understand what happened or the issues involved.
yeah... its about one group of people trying to limit the freedom of another group of people... just like the staff of this site does to its users , i'm not surprised you support this

Well the rule is there now, so people do. Go figure.

He plays Hakan because people don't know the MU and he won with it, being on the biggest stage and with his opponent being forced to play as Rog, the counter presented itself and he took it. That's a lot different than the first match where the opponent isn't locked and one picks everything before even seeing what the opponent is choosing.

Yes, in the same way basketball teams throw matches and people think its unprofessional. Despite what they want, its not their call. Its the TO's and since none stepped in to confront spooky on the issue it looks like a done deal in favor of him.

Mad Catz has pulled for less, but they have strict policies and that's one of them. The fact that they haven't dropped spooky either means they agree or don't care.

ULTRAAA COMBOOO!!!
Maybe they should ban known pot splitters. They're only ruining the FGC for their own gain. I'm sure unknown players would love to take first place.

Chris G and Sandford should have stuck with their characters and pretend to play a serious match, if they actually were trying to collude. I feel that Spooky took the situation too aggressively, his frustrations were understood, but it became misplaced, a calm approach would have been better, imo. The stream would most likely enjoy the match regardless of the uncommon usage of characters, they should have not cut the match short. Man I feel bad for those guys.
