Eddie Murphy: Does he have any chance of being funny ever again? New Beverly Hills Cop announced

Pig Of The Hut

Day 0 Phenomenal Dr. Fate and Darkseid player
The new Beverly Hills Cop is coming so i guess we'll find out.

I have no faith in Eddie Murphy at all to be remotely funny anymore.

Seriously see the article but he hasnt been funny since 1994. That'll be 20 years ago soon. 20 YEARS!!!

Adam sandler has quickly followed the Eddie Murphy "How to stop being funny" quickly path in impressive fashion.

I hope im wrong

Honorable Mention: Bowfinger 1999

Not in my opinion. I quit laughing at his movies years ago but I would like to see the old Eddie Murphy return for a BHC movie but I doubt it will be worth it in the end.

He needs to do a standup routine. Raw and Delerious are still 2 of my favorite standups of all time.

To be fair, he was awesome as Donkey in the Shrek series. I also liked the Nutty Professor.

He was good in Daddy Day Care. Movie is a better family movie then people give it credit for.

The last few years have been AWFUL for him tho. I don't know who his agent is, but he should be fired.

My thoughts exactly. An excellent movie that wasn't the slightest bit deserving of its horrible sequel.

You know who really fell the fuck off? Cuba Gooding Jr.
That man would film a sequel to "The Room" if you paid his rent for a couple of months.

Nutty Professor II was probably the last time i laughed at a Eddie Muprhy film. After that it was kinda downhill IMO. Daddy Day care was alright for what it was but you could tell his fire had burnt out by then. I do hope this next BHC turns out for the better. That 3rd one left a bad taste in my mouth so ill definitely be approaching this next one with caution. Im happy that hes working on another Nutty Professor though. The Klumps have been missed.

Dude, the nutty professor actually had some pretty powerful emotion in it. If they do them right with a good script, they are really good stories. If they go for fart jokes the whole thing (which Eddie Murphy's movies tend to do) they become quite shitty.

His stock is most definitely at an all time low.

Pig, you seem to have a good knowledge of movies. We should definitely talk film sometime!

I think it's more bc he went kid friendly. But that's where the money is. He's still in my top 5 comics of all time.

Any comedy that makes someone play multiple characters means your career is over in my eyes.
Eddie Murphy in many movies, he plays the whole family, Bowfinger, nutty professor, Norbit, Adam Sandler in whatever that crap was that he played himself and his ugly sister. Tyler Perry playing an old woman, I don't even understand how that actually gave him a career. It defies comedic logic in my mind.

Dave Chapelle had a bit where he talked about how all the hollywood producers wanted Black Comedians to wear fat suits and play multiple characters. I tend to agree with him...they kind of have a sick obsession with it.

Martin Lawrence
Tyler Perry
Eddie Murphy
The 2 dudes in White Chicks

etc. etc.

It is very bizarre, I remember that show Family Matters had that nerdy Steve Erkel kid use some invention somehow turn him into a cool guy. It's like multiple personality disorders are comedy gold with whatever demographic they are trying to entertain.

Ah yes... I remember seeing those trailers too well. I was so disappointed that I became depressed and lost faith in everyone and everything. I couldn't believe this was the same guy from Beverly Hills trilogy and The Golden Child. My childhood was murdered.

Eddy Murphy became as obsessed with animals and fat ugly things as Quentin Tarantino is obsessed with feet.

One word: Donkey.

Stuff he's done voice overs for have been hilarious, all within this 20 years. Besides, he is a legend if anything based of his SNL days. Yes, he's had questionable work & stuff that wasn't very good, but again, he is legend status so it doesn't matter at this point.

Does anyone take away from Chris Farley's legendary status for that movie he made right before he died because it was BAD? Nope.
