Guys, pls don't get my thread closed down. The forums are becoming lively again, but we need to remain somewhat civil as well. I respect Rolando as a person and he did a fantastic job promoting his event, but VxG wasn't able to properly execute their promises. As a tourist attraction, VxG is wonderful. Many of the attendees are loving the atmosphere of da beech and they're enjoying the parties/hanging out with everyone. However, VxG could not provide for those who went only for the tournament. VxG 2013 should be seen as a vacation rather than a tournament. Hopefully Rolando learns from this experience and partners up with Jebailey or another respected tournament organizer, so that someone can produce a well ran tournament rather than an on-the-spot tournament.
Oh I gave plenty of advice throughout the year. I too respect Rolando as a person and wish him the best, but as some of you know I've dealt at the forefront of seeing events like GAMME in Orlando and Revelations come and go and whenever an event puts everything financial at the forefront, I want nothing to do with it because it never ends up being about the actual players and tournament themselves. So anyone that wonders why I'm hating or ever disappointed, it's because I've been through this multiple times before and tired of others seeing the same signs but never saying anything when people would really trust and respect their words if they would be more open to talk about stuff and get issues fixed before they happen. My Main focus will ALWAYS be entertaining the players, running a smooth tournament and everything else is just a bonus.
Not gonna post this as an I Told You so type post but I've been irked by quite a few factors like there's literally 5/6 TO's at VxG this weekend enjoying a nice vacation that could of given tons of actual tournament/event advice and none of that seemed to have happened. Heck Rolando was super generous and I applaud him and St. Maarten for it when he went to a ton of well established events(did skip CEO and EVO though) but never once learned about actual tournament organization and event planning tournament wise(He knows how to plan night club parties though just fine). If I wanted someone to run an actual tournament Ghaleon would be one of my top choices but he wasn't given anything to work with until he got there hence the napkin schedule and I know is putting all his heart into running everything smoothly. I told Rolando a few times(Yes I'm guilty of being a douche and trolling the event previously as well) that he needs to talk about the TOURNAMENT and what will make it fun and not everything else about the island. I seriously considered going just for Tsang Tsung dinner alone but that didn't happen or Major Lazer, or Casino Royale which again are all bonuses to an event but are some pretty hefty promises that if I paid hard money(Rolando was kind enough to invite me to VxG once CEO concluded but I took too much time off from work for CEO/EVO this summer) I'd be causing a shit storm lol.
All I really care about and ask is for people that want to throw FGC events, please do your research, focus on the games and players first and foremost. Every time someone comes up to me in person and asks for Event advice usually they start off with... So I want to throw a huge event. I stop them right there and suggest, trust me, start small, build it up over time with trust and the rest will snowball and follow(I ran 50+ smaller events and tourneys before CEO 2010 ever existed). I just want people that are actually passionate about the games running events and if you're not or don't even know how to do an SRK, should at least do more research from start to finish and not forget about the event itself until 1 day before.
Just wanted to get my feelings about this weekend off my chest and seriously, I commend everyone that is there doing their best to make things work for trying so hard (Ie MCZ, Capcom Fighters, everyone helping the rest of the weekend catchup and so forth.) to make the most out of the tournament itself. I'll always be open hearted with the community because I want things to grow all the time so hit me up anytime.
Oh and personally the funniest thing about the weekend for me, is Justin not being able to handle 3rd world outdoor living lol.
