Question If Kabal were banned

Kratos has a safe parry that goes into a 50% combo. No lol
"Safe"? He is stuck in recovery frames if he doesn't catch anyone, unlike Cyber Sub-Zero's back-to-back parry, and he is still vulnerable to pokes and some low attacks. It may only do 50% if he does a crossover JIP before starting the combo after the parry. Otherwise he only gets just under 50%.
I don't think you've heard: Kratos vs Kenshi is 2-8, a large advantage match-up for Kenshi.

Anyway, Kratos can be discussed another day, your topic is about Kabal.

So if Kabal were banned, who would become viable? Or does Kenshi already beat those potentially viable characters?

He requires good strategy+execution, Kabals that make mistakes or become repetetive can be punished real hard by most of the cast.

(btw, I'd rather see character locked tournaments instead of character bans.)

"Mind Over Matter" I dont mind, and X dont matter
Kabal is outdated. If he is banded then who will be next in line ?
Nah, personally I dont think that would change much.
I believe that players like You PL and Reo and few others maybe, are capable of turning any A+ char into a monster. Not much would change.

I don't see how this can't be considered an option if you look at the state mk9 is in. I just saw cat post hes fine with it and would player other characters. I'd say if reo and some other kabal players agreed it would make the game better. I think curbo would rather play cage as well. Kenshi is somewhat fucked up in a lot of matchups as well but he does have even or losing matchup(s).

edit: reo is godlike and I have seen his lao and kenshi, I have never seen the guy play a character the wrong way.

Given that a Cryrax won Toryuken (with like 3 Cyrax's in top 8) and a Cyrax Won EVO, and that a Cyrax who doesn't play much anymore was 2nd at a number of majors that Kabal won, I'd have to say that if Kabal was banned this game would become Mortal Kombat: Cyraxes among us and not much would be different.

The way I see it, Cyrax's will continue to level up and get better, and getting better with the capability to do that much damage is a dangerous thing.

Now if you banned Kabal, Cyrax, and Sonya, I think the makeup of tournament MK9 would change completely. It'd be hugely exciting to see who would come out on top. But a lot of people wouldn't get to play their favorite characters and the ones they've been playing for 2 years -- it'd be a major heartbreak for a lot of people.

Nope, what's next... a Cyrax/Kenshi/Sonya/Skarlet ban? Kabal requires nearly flawless execution and strategy or he gets scrubbed out, we've seen that time after time again.
He's only S++ in the right hands.
It doesnt matter if Kabal requires good execution. If he can do broken stuff, he can do broken stuff and should be banned.

Execution is just practice and no excuse for such braindeadness, imo.

Btw every char with unblockable reset-doom combos should also be banned. I dont see any fairness in Cyrax' gameplay. And u not even can build meter for breaker vs him because his nets are too dangerous. But thats off topic again. Sry...

You're completely right, the whole game is filled with broken stuff (like most FGs honestly). But I don't think banning is an option, it won't even matter for me as I main Sub Zero (Kenshi, aaaargh).
As stated before, repetetive/slow/braindead Kabals get scrubbed out most of the time. I'd rather see character locks at tournaments because there are way too much dumb matchups, making it a counterpick fest (imo a scrubby tactic in a 2 outa 3 tournament setting).

Having a defined high tier in a game, even one that shuts off some other characters' options completely, doesn't spell doom for any particular FG. Melee has been out for 12 years and had a strong showing at EVO, despite having a ridiculously tilted tier list (try winning a tournament without using fox, falco, peach, marth, or shiek). There are a TON of "Kanos" in that game, and a bunch of characters who might make it out of pools but get bodied hard by competent top tier. The community never banned Fox. It accepted the game for what it was and kept playing (for a very long time, and still do).

My point here is that the life of a FG rests solely on its community and not making tweaks to cater to those who would 'only play the game again' if something fundamentally were altered by force. MK might not be at the next EVO, but it's on all of us to keep hosting tournaments and keeping the game alive - I'm not sold a character ban, even a temporary one, would increase showing. Maybe I'm biased because I don't know how hard that MU is for a lot of chars (it's honestly not awful for Reptile). I've played competent Kabals, but not someone on REO's level.

After all of the salt, Kabal has never won an EVO, but even if he did, I'm not sure it would change things. The truth is that watching high level Kabal play is entertaining. The last 2 EVO grand finals were both very fun to watch (all 3 were, actually). I don't think that Kabal takes away from the hype or makes the game degenerate.
