What "normal" gaming enthusiasts think of injustice EVO finals

Casual gamers know shit about FGs, of course.
but Injustice final was still boring as fuck. i'd rather watch my hair grow.

I took the time to watch all of the other games' Grand Finals and almost every Top 8 match that was streamed. Sadly, IMO, Injustice had the most non-hype Grand Finals of all. Yes that is just an opinion, but I think you'd find it hard to find a bunch of people who are now new Injustice fans based off those matches. Serious question: have you even heard of anybody OUTSIDE of the Injustice community who liked our Grand Finals? King of Fighters, Melee, and Street Fighter had me cheering, even though I don't even play those games at all!

I hope we can turn this around somehow.

I actually think that is why many people dislike Inujistice's/MK's style. IMO it makes it a little tougher as you can trade at full screen so eventually one side is going to have to make a move to get in. In SF, 2 shotos can stay back all day...ALL day, and be "safe" for the most part.
This also happens in Injustice, i'm tired of watching Aquaman vs Black Adam, or any other character who can attach each other fullscreen.

One throws a safe projectile, the other blocks and reversal with his own... doesn't punish, and the process repeats and becomes boring.

So kabal IAGB to the end of the screen, nomad dash and repeat is not boring?
I understand and dont mind if you dont like the game, but seriously giving that as an example why its boring is just stupid.

Lol you, i just shared my point of view, if you're getting all defensive because of it, be my guest, you're just wasting meter for nothing, if i was to be stupid i would counter your argument with something stupid.

Kabal might be broken due his safe zoning options, but you can still move up and avoid his zoning, in Injustice one power character can just sit next to an interactible and throw safe projectiles all day, until you get in and get smacked with an interactible.

aside from that, i'm not even comparing both games so pls stop being stupid here, i only think this game would be a lot much better, if dashes wouldn't take forever to end. the game would be pretty more dynamic and non zoning characters actually would have a better chance to avoid almost anything that flies across the screen without getting frustraded and wondering if he is fighting the character or the interactible.

A coworker of mine used to be into fightinggames. I told him evo was coming up and he watched what he could in our timezone. He is not familiar with NRS games but this is what he said:

- Superman seems really strong.
- Interactibles seem really strong.

Because of this he thought I:GAU was boring to watch. I fully agree with him. The way injustice is now, it's not really attractive to new players.

People just get bored. There's only so many times you can make people sit through Superman vs Black Adam. I don't blame them. AE suffered the same thing last year when every event ended up Ricky vs Justin in a Rufus mirror. People just can't get hype seeing these kind of matches. It's not the characters fault, it's not the players fault, it's just that if you tuned in to any major or weekly, you're going to see a lot of Superman and a lot of BA.

People just want to see some character variety in this game. Case in point: Civil War was plagued with Doomsday players, people moaned about it, yet cut to EVO and people got hype when DJT pulled out Doomsday for Grand Finals. People got hype for Harley at CEO. People want to see Injustice in all sizes and shapes, not Superman vs Black Adam: Safe Ice Slides Among us. If a Bane, Lex, Sinestro, Lobo, Batgirl, Nightwing, Cyborg, Raven, Deathstroke, Ares, Joker, Harley, Grundy, Hawkgirl, Catwoman, Shazam or Flash got in top 8, I think everyone would have been a lot more excited. Instead we get the same Superman, Black Adam, Frost, Batman and Green Lantern, the same characters everyone has seen at every single event. It's a brand new game and yet it's already settled into only showcasing 5 out of 28 characters.

That said, I don't want to see any normalizations taking place. Just hope that other character specialists level up and become more of a mainstay in top tier play.

Grundy don't stop
Infact they went from 130 to 100k. Still a record and thats also a fact
Just because there's 100k viewers, doesn't mean they're all there to actually watch. Most of them were waiting for Marvel if you remember the chat. This can also be proven correct because once Marvel came on, the views went up with.

C'mon. Ofc people should do what they must to win, but for spectators, they are here for something else. I dare to think that when people come to watch a FG event they don't come to see multiplayer of Space Invaders 2012.

I think character variety will grow once tech develops for some of the lesser used characters and people become comfortable stepping outside of their comfort zones. Instead of putting time into complex characters (joker, bane, lobo, raven...) they crutch on characters with one or two really strong moves to use as an entire blueprint for their playstyle (supes f23, gl b1, BA b23/footdive). I really think people are afraid of putting time into characters and just opt to take the easy way out.

That and superman's OP.

"I know this is probably a lost cause because most of you are all casuals. But I'm still gonna try and educate some people here.
What you guys call "spam" is in reality "zoning" which consists in controlling space and limiting options. You do it by occupying the ground or the air with something. e.g. Black Adam has good ground control and Deathstroke has good air control. It can be a projectile like in Superman's case, or it can be limbs (Dhalsim in SF) or it can be any move that presents an obstacle to the opponent.
Players mainly do this to build meter, protect a life lead, keep rushdown characters away etc. It is also part of "footsies" or the mid-range game. It's a conditioning tactic. For example in SF4 when Ryu keeps doing hadokens, you get tired of it and decide to try and jump over one but then he uppercuts you. The Ryu player is not the one lacking skill here, it's you. You were impatient and fell right in his trap. At closer range, you can't jump over fireballs on reaction, you either have to predict them or walk and block or focus dash cancel etc.
Casuals will never improve at fighting games until they realize that spamming is
not a stupid or noob thing, it's an obstacle/challenge that you have to get through like in any other game. For example, in Mario you have those cannon balls and fire balls moving around the screen. People don't complain that the AI is just spamming. They suck it up and accept that those obstacles are part of the level, it's what makes it challenging and rewarding. You just try to avoid the fireballs/cannon balls by playing smart and being patient.
In FPS you have snipers. Of course the same noobs that complain about spammers also complain about snipers. They say that they are just campers but real players like the challenge. You know you have to respect snipers, you know you have to take cover, you know you can't just run around in open field and be a sitting duck. You go around, you get inside houses, follow the walls, go underground etc. until you finally make your way behind the sniper, cut his throat and tea-bag him.
Well it's the same thing in fighting games! You have to work to get around zoning and start your pressure/combos. There is no reason to play fighting games if you just want to do your flashy combos without working a little to land it. If you don't want to deal with any projectile obstacle then you might as well stick to practice mode where there is no challenge to overcome.
Pro tip for Injustice: vs most characters, after avoiding or blocking a projectile you can do a full dash safely and block the next projectile in time. There are only a few exceptions to this rule (like Cyborg for example). Vs Cyborg's instant air fireball zoning, you have to walk, crouch, walk crouch more than dash or jump. Eventually you'll close the distance and it's up to you to keep them cornered or punish them if they try to jump over you.
There, I hope you all learned something today. If I just made 1 noob smarter then it was worth it. :)
So the next time you lose to a spammer, just accept that he was better
than you and try to do better next time. Otherwise you will always suck at everything in life."

lol Educate the noobs!!
