A Critical Look at Injustice: Post EVO Review

Justice

USA is behind in injustice. That's my post EVO review, KDZ is right about the skill gap, and it's basically a repeat of what happened in MK9. Mark my words.
Sorry f0xy, but I gotta call you out on this one. You're an idiot. You're saying that an entire country's community is behind on skill based on one match? Get real. Quite frankly, I would put DJT at a higher level skill-wise than KDZ while putting both players at an extremely high level that many players can only hope to attain. The only thing that happened in that match was that DJT didn't have a counter for his own tactics. Call it lack of experience, call it unpreparedness, whatever but it is NOT an indication of the skill level of DJT himself OR the US community.

No, I never said 'that an entire country's community is behind on skill based on one match' I mean that a vast majority of the US community is that far behind KDZ.

Watch the US community get better over the next year, cause right now its pretty weak, especially if a Killer Frost like Balrog, or a Batman player like Nightmare can get that far... seriously.

Have you played nightmare sf before?

Chris G, REO, DJT, etc could have ALL taken it that sunday.

Im curious if KDZ will win NLBC again tonight as I don't believe he has won in 3 weeks losing to a combination of myself, Rico Suave, and Chris G.
I do however fully expect that KDZ will win.

nightmare sf has basically put more time into this game than ANYONE else I know of besides maybe the testers. The guy plays online literally ALL DAY LONG or at least he did up until evo. Hes like at the top of all the leaderboards, and was constantly bodying everyone with 40 win streaks in the pjs lobby. He is no joke and i was pretty much sure he would be beat PL first round. Just because hes not a 'notable player' doesnt mean he isnt extremely good at this game.

I REALLY don't understand these posts. It should just be about one simple question: do you have fun playing the game? If you don't, then it's not for you and that's fine.
no offense, but that is such a stupid mentality. criticism is always helpful.

with a game, you want to draw in more fans and keep them playing -- not just say "dun liek it? f0k off den m8".

If you want to reply to something, have the courtesy to properly quote.

If you take away the core game of those characters, they're shit. Silly gimmicky chars is something they're not, since when did whiff punishers become gimicky LOL?

calling an abusively strong string part of someones core game = silly gimmicky character

injustice isnt the only game with the kind of bad character design belial talks about, by any means. think of el fuerte, or arakune or phoenix...lot of all-or-nothing and/or one-dimensional characters out there

that said it's still not a good thing! i love a lot of the character designs in injustice, it's just that the top characters tend to be the most limited & boring ones. my own personal leaning re: one-dimensional characters is that if you can't re-design them, just nerf them into irrelevance. it's a mistake that these characters are even in the game to begin with, but you're only compounding that mistake if you feel you have to make them good - just look at the reactions to evo top 8!

i will say, to the person saying injustice tried too hard to make all the characters different...play guilty gear and come back to me. that's a game where one character has a completely different super meter from everyone else, 2 other characters have unique meters on top of the normal super meter, characters have different wakeup timing, one character has guard cancels that lead to full combos, etc. this large a variety is my favorite thing about fighting games, and what drew me to injustice in the first place! the problem is not in the design goal, just some of the execution thus far...

Online Punching Bag
2 things I will agree with
zoning - this game is centered around zoning, from the fact that you have characters with multi shot attacks killing rushdown's 1 hit of armor on most specials before you can reach them, interactables, a lot of throws toss you almost full screen, clashes push you away, Sinestro's arachnid punch, superman's breath and on and on, it's like fighting Kenshi against half the cast. Yes everyone does have an answer to zoning, is it a good answer? Not really with some characters. But it's better than nothing I guess. Why do you think so many people flipped out about Scorpions teleport. Because half the cast has the ability to go pew pew pew against some characters then that stopped working. Yeah he got nerfed as he should have, he was as mindless as the "zoning" is against rushdown. This is a fighting game not paper, rock, scissors counterpick.

the strings - This seems to be a NRS thing, you make a character have one or 2 decent strings and everything else is filler. There's so many tournaments I've seen for MK9 that have people doing the same set up's over and over again because they want to win and why use the crap strings when you have 1 or 2 that cover all your bases? There should be a different tool/string for every scenario, not one string you can (or have to) use to win.

Yeah the game is young, yeah it's going to get patched more, but if we don't tell them what we don't like they aren't going to know. I would think they are smart enough to know what changes should be made and which ones shouldn't.

Guilty gear is sacred and has gone through many iterations to get it to the masterpiece it is today
Not comparable to new injustice imo

Fuck. I can't argue this..

I mean, Balrog didn't know the KF resets. In 2 days, I don't think I saw him do one kombo higher than 23%. But what Balrog showed us is that there is a higher level of fundamentals to Injustice that we just haven't tapped into yet. Balrog totally deserved his 5th place but you're right, he showed us a side of our own game that we have been ignoring with the whining about Scorpion or zoning or DeathStroke or the interactibles. This is why I like players from other communities getting into Injustice. They bring different experiences and "eyes" to the game.

who's to say that ppl in your community aren't behind as well? a community isn't going to have everyone playing at a high lvl (even after 5 years of sf, not everyone plays at a high lvl). I could care less if ppl though the grand finals was 3 0 bcuz of a skill gap, i'd like to see those same ppl get 2nd at evo. One set loss doesn't mean "skill gap". Imagine if kdz and my bro played like a ft20, then things would be a lot different. But it is evo of course, no body got time for long sets like that. Also it is only the first year for IGAU at evo and it has only been out for like 3 months LMAO, NO ONE IS PLAYING AT FULL POTENTIAL YET. To conclude this, US on top of IGAU, and we aren't going anywhere (same thing in mk, let's not get into that argument again).

We all know why Superman is the way he is in this game, he is the casual character of choice, super easy to use, somewhat scrubby, any non FG DC fan can pick him up and do stuff.

I don't mnid that a character like him existing, especially considering this games target audience, but man IDK what they were thinking by having him be the top, a character like that should be mid at best.

i called it on pod cast

no one listened :(

AK Pig Of The Hut, some ppl really believe that the grand finals were 3 0 because KDZ was just far superior to my bro and that he didn't know what he was doing, I really feel like this should be a topic on the kryptonite council, because I've seen multiple ppl say that is why it was 3 0.

Agreed. I also think that with more people from different communities getting involved, the metagame will develop faster and better.

definitely, the more communities, the better for the skill level we'll see at tournaments. I think ppl are going overboard with this "skill gap" talk and what not, it is the FIRST evo for this game and it has only been out 3 months.

This "skill gap" stuff is nonsense. You know what will make me believe there's a huge skill gap between one top player and the rest of the community? When that player starts consistently winning majors with Lex Luthor, or Ares, or even freakin' Deathstroke. Start dominating with any character that isn't brain-dead-easy to play and I MIGHT believe claims of a skill gap.

Chris G, for example, is about the only player who I MIGHT believe is significantly ahead of everyone in skill, and even that's somewhat questionable. But don't come to a bar fight with an AK-47 and then tell me how much better your karate skillz are than everyone else at the bar.

I dnt know why some can't just admit that my bro made mistakes and it cost him. Some acting like it is easy to deal with the stuff KDZ was using with superman, that crap is stupid hard to deal with.

If you're using me as an example, I was insinuating that at all. I agree with both the statements that (1) KDZ was throwing out some really mean shit, and (2) DJT made some major mistakes. What I was trying to say is that Superman is a character that is very EASY to throw out a lot of "mean shit" with. Repeat the Evo GF in all respects (including DJT's mistakes), but make KDZ main Cyborg or Joker or even Doomsday and we all know things would have been different.

yeah some have said things would've been different if KDZ didn't play supes, but I'll give him his props because he plays superman at the highest level at the moment hands down.

i honestly think most of the community for this game doesnt know how to play the game or maybe fighting games in general. I saw a post earlier about superman needs to be nerfed because people like Ranmasama got 13th place and he plays marvel. that sounds to me like the community needs to step up. even looking at prbalrog matches at evo i was thinking "man most of these people are bad". if this is the only game you play, and someone like Ranmasama beats you (we casually play every game) then you need to step your game up.
Hector wants 3/5 top 8 for evo injustice but i wont agree until people learn how to play. even perfectlegend agrees on no one still knows the game.
