might be a stupid question but not considering competetive play does the hit box lower the fun factor?

like... u can take a run at a park which is harder but u got sights(stick)
or u can get on a treadmill which is eazyer but u got nothing(hitbox)
is it something like dat?

stick is funner than pad... to me

I think stick is fun, but so is executing perfectly and winning. :) At least that's what I imagine, I"m also looking to build my own.

Hey Kobra, thanks for offering the layout, but as I'm going to try for MK attack button layout I think I'll need to come up with my own.

I have a friend that could do the woodwork for me, so once I get the layout he can do that.

One of the questions I have is finishing work. Artwork, trim, etc. What do people recommend for that? What do you cover the artwork with? I know some use plastic, but I like the feel my AIAB has, so if I could replicate that it would be ideal. Also, what is usually used to attach the PCB to the wood?

Thanks in advance!

So can you post what the problem was and how you solved it? Might help someone else.
Well, I just wanted some general tips because this was before I started. Here is what I did though

First I unscrewed the top and places the screws in a safe place. Lifted the top off of the HitBox and placed it button side down on my work surface. I used a sharpie to number each wire and each side of the button holes that they went to.

If you do not get that here is a little description 2( )1 the parenthesis would be where the button is and this is the underside of the hitbox so you cannot see it when you place the lid back on. I don't know if it totally mattered which side the wires went but I wanted each wire to go back exactly where they were just in case!

Snapped all of the buttons out so I could get the acrylic piece off of the metal sheet. Peeled up a corner of the Hitbox graphic and pulled as hard as I could....it is a pain in the ass to get this graphic off. Much glue residue left on the clear acrylic so I soaked the acrylic in isopropyl alcohol, after that stopped working I used warm water and laundry detergent and used a cotton towel to get all the glue off. ( there has to be an easier way this took me the longest and was the worst part)

Once I had the acrylic all clean and dry I placed the graphic under it and taped it down so it would not move, took an exacto knife and cut out all of the holes. After this I took the tape off polished the acrylic up and placed the graphic between the acrylic and metal sheet. Snapped the buttons in to place and matched up each number and screwed it back together =D Then I cut off any excess paper that was sticking out of the protective acrylic.

Sorry if this was jumbled but you asked! =p

I wanted a HitBox, but due to the very long wait, wanting a custom layout, and saving money, I made my own. It wasn't hard at all. The hardest part was choosing the layout and cutting the hardboard. I made it out of a guncase. The great part is that the handle is built in. :)

Here are the parts:
Guncase (about 14"x11"x 3 1/2") - $11
LL 22 AWG wire, different colors, about 20 feet (I have a lot left over)- $6 (lizardlick.com)
LL Quick Connect crimp connectors, about 30 (2 per button) - $3
2 Seimitsu 30mm pushbuttons, screw-in - $6
14 Seimitsu 24mm pushbuttons, screw-in - $35
1 1/8" spade drill bit (for the 30mm buttons) -$5, hardware store
15/16" spade drill bit (for the 24mm buttons)- $5
4 rubber feet -$2, hardware store
USB cable Male A/B - $5
2' x 4' 1/8" hardboard (to make case sturdier) -$5, hardware store
cable tie, pack of 100 (didn't use any) - $2
8 screws, 6 nuts, hand drill - (had in garage)
Toodles Cthulhu - $30
Ideal wire stripper/crimper - $11, hardware store

Here is my layout:

while i dont like the hitbox, i can appreciate the work you did there brother. very nice indeed :)

Hello,

I'm a Kabal/Jax players.

i'm having trouble executing the IAGB of Kabal so i was think about buying a Hitbox/Stick.

i'd like to have a analog stick to jump and such, not a button.

what would you guys recommend me?

Post links please.

Well if you are going for insanely easy iAfb the hitbox is champ. It takes a while to get used to and even longer to be able to play an actual human on it but it is worth it. I've never played on a stick though so i can only comment on the hitbox.

HitBox= Fastest execution possible (maybe ask Dark Kobra on the forum, he has experience with the Box)

Nice custom made stick = check shadaloo.nl, a custom stick builder based in the Netherlands!!
--->He (Jinx) will be at RFD Amsterdam next week! You can see lots of different sticks/brands over there, maybe it helps making your choice...

It is all based on personal opinion/taste. If you liked sticks in the arcade, you'll probably enjoy them now too. But after looking at all the HitBox video's (and REO this weekend), I would say HitBoxes are fastest execution- wise (if you're skilled with it though, it's not a Magic- or CheatBox!!).
I you take a basic look at the Box, it is just a 'fighting game oriented keyboard'. As every switch is triggered by a button and you have a finger (actuator) for every direction, instead of one actuator (as in joysticks) for all directions.

Edit: I think Sasuga ordered one too, he's Dutch, so I think he also can give you some info.

I've posted a review of my Hitbox over at www.mortalkombatunited.com if you want to have a read of it..... It's on the front page. Hopefully it will help you make the decision if you want to go down the Hitbox route or not.

But with the Hitbox, you are learning again, because you are playing the game in a different way, so you have to spend time with it and you have to want to spend time learning it too. Check out my review to see if it helps!

Yeah, hitbox is pretty cool but it's very, very expensive. Not just the thing itself, but the shipping.... Converted to euro's, it's 170 including the shipping (which is 60 dollars) but then they charge you another 45 euro's at customs for tax or whatever. I think I prefer physical rape!

TheHitBox is amazing. I've been using one since June. I recommend trying one before you buy it though. It just might not be for you. I posted a review several months ago. I included a 15+ minute video explaining how I use it too. You can check that out here.

I got one coming in soon, I got an email exactly two weeks after putting myself on the waiting list saying it was ready. I was ready to make my own but the email came before I got started. I use the PDP TE stick exclusively but that can be a pain for 1/4 circles at times. I'm not sure why it doesn't come out consistently because I have thousands of games under my belt. I main Kabal and his IAGB doesn't come out like I want so I decided to give this controller a try.

has anyone ever tested this "input bug" with the hitbox. I am not siding with either side here, i have my own theories im ust wondering because it looks like there is no input bug in any hitbox video i have ever seen

At devastation during the post tourny interview vVv Reo said he was having a lot of input bugs while playing and he was using the HitBox

I have more problems with this "input bug" on hitbox. Probably because you can do input faster.
yep. Happens to me too, ask TheChad_87

yesterday i rage quit life after 3 matches because i was dropping everything. It happens really often.

Not a hitbox user yet, but there are some issues with the game and input speed.

I use a stick and when I play with Rain my 4,3 string will give me a stance change every so often. After a lot of testing I am just hitting the buttons too fast. Pressing 4+3 is the stick shortcut for stance change. I input the moves so fast the game does not understand the difference when it should.

I also get a lot of missed hit within block strings for the same reason. You can call it the input bug but no matter what you call it the game does not like hitting the buttons too fast. I suspect that this was done on purpose to keep the game very pad friendly as it is a whole lot harder to do on pad.

Yeah, that sucks. I have the same problems. Maybe it can also be caused by releasing the two buttons at the same time. Then negative edge kicks in and Rain dance in stead of causing damage.
