[Feb 10, 2015] ALERT: FINAL GHOST BATTLE SERIES for Injustice, Early on Tuesday!

GGA HAN

Galloping Ghost Arcade

Due to a majority of the local scene, which has made Ghost Battle Series an awesome event, not being able to make it out Thursday we have decided as a community to run our last Injustice GBS early next week on Tuesday. We apologize if this ruins any plans for anyone, especially if you were planning on coming from out of state/travelling to make this GBS!

Galloping Ghost Arcade (GGA, for short), home to many well-known MK9 players, is proud to announce its new weekly Injustice: Gods Among Us tournament: "Ghost Battle Series". In the same vein as Wednesday Nights Fights, Next Level Battle Circuit and the Atlanta Kombat Arena, this will be a weekly double elimination tournament, occurring every Thursday night.

The intentions we have for starting this new series:
1) Improve the level of local Injustice: Gods Among Us competition, while showcasing the talent of our players to the nation.

2) Encourage more nearby players to make the trek out to Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, IL and participate in our events. We love having "new blood" come out and welcome anyone in the area to come out and play.

Even if you have never been to a tournament before, coming out to an event like this is a great way to get your feet wet in the competitive scene for a low cost (5.00 venue fee) and test your skills in smaller scale event before heading to a Major tournament like UFGT (where venue and tournament fees can reach 40-50 easily). Players of every skill level will be in attendance; don't feel like you have to be great (or even good) to participate. Although these are technically competitions, these weeklies are also to assess your level of gameplay, improve your skills if you want to (and if you don't, that's fine) and meet others of similar interests.

You all know the drill, no more "breath of fresh air" here - we bring you hype matches of all different player skill levels every week, along with a large helping of SALT, pack-ups, and a JIM chants. Look out for our new "Sniper-cam", and "Eyes-On" alerts!

Some of the top players you see every week include:
@GGA Max - Runner-Up at Kumite in Tennessee last year, and the "Bane" of @GGA 16 Bit 's existence. Along with his trademark legendary commentary, :16Bit has placed in more tournaments than I can count on my fingers, but I'll just mention his Evolution 2014 top 8 and MLG Anaheim Runner-up placements with a his animal-lady waifu. Speaking of animal-ladies, we also showcase the antics and odd-ball commentary of @GGA pimpimjim , Winner of NEC 2013 and 4th at Evolution 2014 who brings with him his diverse character "team". Recently stepping up and improving greatly is Naptown Clutch IV Winner @GGA Saucy Jack whose great Superman play completes our META each week.

4 Twisted - 22 points

NEW FOR SEASON 2 - Point Bonus for Current Champs "Bounty"
If you defeat the last week tournament winner the week after they won, you will receive an extra point for that week! If you beat the champ and send him to losers, and also eliminate him in the same tournament, you can get another point! So there are 2 bonus points up for grabs every week.

NEW FOR SEASON 3 - HAN's "Dynamic Seeding System"
In order the keep the brackets from stagnating and fighting the same matches by the 2nd or 3rd round every week, I have developed a new system that will prevent this (in theory). There will still be seeds 1 through 8, as usual. However, seeds 1-4 will be considered "Major" seeds and seeds 5-8 will be considered "Minor" seeds. Once they major and minor seeds are determined, they will be randomized within each other, meaning seed position 1 through 4 could be the top seed on any given week. For example, if Max is currently the top seed for the season, a random number sequence between 1-4 (determined by random.org) will determine his actual position for the bracket being made. If anyone has any questions on how this would work or affect them, please ASK!

New for SEASON 4 - 3 out of 5 matches!
As most, if not all of the major Injustice scenes in the US have changed their default rules to 3 out of 5 games, we are happy to make the switch here at Galloping Ghost Arcade. What this means is (of course) more matches, and slightly longer events. What this will unfortunately also effect is the casuals being played on Thursdays, for those that are in attendance. Most, if not all, of the setups will need to be used for tournament matches, so casuals will be limited to before and after the event is completed. Due to time constraints and to improve the quality and quantity of matches that we can show on stream, we have decided to not increase the matches to 3 out of 5 games at this time. This will allow more "Marquee" matches to be shown on stream and to complete the tournament at a more reasonable hour of the night. We may, with a vote of the players in attendance, decide to make all the top 8 matches 3 out of 5 in the future, however.

New for Season 5 (Year 2) - 3 out of 5 is a go, if attendance is low!
As a group, the majority of the players have decided that running the entire tournament in a 3 out 5 games format would be best and would still be done in a timely manner if we have 10 or less players show up for the event.
Even if you don't have the means to play on Xbox, please show up and we will find a way to play your match; Whether we have you go off-stream on a PS3, have you borrow someones' stick/pad or use a converter, we would hate to have someone not show up because we are using Xbox on the stream. People have asked why the switch Xbox, and the short answer is to prepare for other tournaments (Evo events, UFGT, ect).

Is this the last of the season or for the foreseeable future?
Until MK X drops we're going on hiatus from tournament. We will still stream on Thursday, but it just won't feature a GBS event. We might be having MK9 casuals, Injustice casuals, Mario Kart, Smash, anything really...

people that come to GBS have converters to use PS2 pads on 360, if you have a ps2 pad you like, Id bring that. Otherwise hopefully someone can lend you their pad/converter to use tonight, most people are cool with it

This mean you don't like me?
It's kinda sad to see a hiatus from GBS, but I'm sure the more dedicated attendees may appreciate the break. Coming back big and fresh for MKX sounds splendid, and some (Injustice casual sets which can still be shown on stream) can sometimes be more entertaining that a tournament match in a major. When GGA is concerned, 'sometimes' can be interchanged with 'usually.'

Guys that was an awesome experience, ill def have to get my own pad so I don't have to use a tiny ps1 controller again. Ill practice offline more so too. Gotta get that timing down. Thanks to whoever let me use their pad(S) !
