My First Serious Call Out

It's good to know you are a terrible person.
Sure, I'm a terrible and insensible person because I don't drop cold water on my head... Bitch please. What I'm saying is that people either donate or they don't. But no matter what you decide and how much you decide to donate, dropping cold water on your head serves no purpose.

If you do the bucket challenge but don't donate, there is no point except encouraging others to do the same (meaning not donate but do the bucket challenge to feel cool, feel like a good person and get youtube views). By doing so you are bringing a lot more attention to a silly youtube challenge than to the actual cause. So as a result way too many people are only using ALS as a mean to get attention and money for themselves. (e.g. a youtube vid that gets 1 million views will earn you more than what you are willing to donate)

I find it interesting how easily a population can be manipulated to donate and/or do random things for X cause they haven't even researched beforehand. It's something terrorists would be wise take note of lol. All you need is a couple of viral youtube videos, native advertising and a good cause and you have an army of brainwashed youtube sluts and monsters willing to do anything you ask of them. Like make them waste precious water on their head after having poisoned it LOL.

I'm willing to bet 90% of people would still do the challenge and donate even if you made up a cause or disease entirely.

I don't find it charming or heart warming, I find it scary as a phenomenon.

No, I'm saying you are a terrible person because you find it insensible and illogical to donate to a cause that helps fund research for something we don't know a lot about. Why is it such a big deal and taking off? Because not much has been researched on it. Last year there was a total of around 1.0 million dollars donated for ALS. This year there has been over 100 million which is 100 times what it was of last year. I'm sorry that the "stupid challenged" helped boost donations for the research and help of a relatively unknown disease. Are a lot of people doing the challenge selfish and only doing it for self gain? Yeah there are, but the same could be said for anything anyone does in life. To specifically target the event as a whole and say it's worthless is a completely different matter.

Where did I say it's worthless? Obviously it's always worth it to exploit people for whatever good cause imaginable.

Yes, I do find it illogical and confusing... Especially when people have been controlled to a point where they consider me, theo, ducky etc. a bitch/terrible person for deciding not to donate/cold shower for this one cause affecting 0.002%. When they aren't donating themselves to 10000000 causes affecting millions and millions.

I mean statistically, logically and morally speaking:

"Cardiovascular diseases, Infectious and parasitic diseases, Ischemic heart disease, Malignant neoplasms, Cerebrovascular disease, Respiratory diseases, HIV/AIDS, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Perinatal conditions, Malaria, Digestive diseases, Diarrhea diseases, Suicide, Tuberculosis, Lung cancer, Breast cancer, Stomach cancer, Road traffic accidents, Childhood diseases, Neuropsychiatric disorders, Diabetes mellitus, Hypertensive heart disease, Diseases of the genitourinary system, Cirrhosis of the liver, Nephritis/nephropathy, Colorectal cancer, Liver cancer, Measles, Congenital abnormalities, Esophageal cancer, Inflammatory heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, Poisoning, Lymphomas, multiple myeloma, Rheumatic heart disease, Oral and oropharynx cancers, Pertussis, Prostate cancer, Leukemia, Peptic ulcer disease, Protein-energy malnutrition, Endocrine/nutritional disorders, Asthma, Cervical cancer, Pancreatic cancer, Tetanus, Bladder cancer, Meningitis, Syphilis."

Those are all mortality causes/diseases affecting a lot more people worldwide. Why aren't YOU donating to those? And why aren't you considered a terrible person for choosing not to do so? Just because the media and youtube decided ALS is the flavor of the month? lol no thanks I'd rather keep my freedom to choose and decide for myself what causes need my money/attention more. Of course in an ideal world we should all donate 100$ to everything but alas money is finite.

And why waste water? Seriously guys, so many people would KILL to drink that LOL. Just donate and hit yourself in the stomach if you want but stop wasting so much water..

You guys need lives, if this is bothering you personally. Occupy yourself with something so you don't get butthurt by people donating their own money, with their own time.

Did you seriously ignore my post where I explained why ice water and the fact that it's not just ALS but actually a whole heap of neuron related diseases that will be helped with research into ALS?

Because that kinda refuted both your central points.

You don't get it. It's true that alot of the people who take the challenge probably do not know much about ALS or even care much about donating to it. However, the single most important thing that the ice bucket challenge does is raise awareness of the problem, which means that somebody will eventually donate to it. The ice bucket thing is just a gimmick to gather interest. It's funny seeing Bill Gates and Harrison Ford dumping ice water on themselves. I don't see why this is such a big mystery.

I didn't ignore it. I just didn't reply to it because I didn't see a reason to.

"The reason ice is used is it's meant to simulate the crippling stabbing pain people who suffer from ALS experience."

There are other ways to simulate a "crippling stabbing pain" than wasting drinkable water lol. For instance, you could alternatively punch yourself in the stomach, hit your giblets with hammer or hit your head against a wall. So the point still stands: it serves no purpose and just wastes water. Which remains wrong no matter if it's for a good cause or not. I wouldn't care as much if people did it in the shower, because then at least the water would be recycled.

You made a fair point saying researching ALS could help a lot of other people so I didn't counter it. But the question wasn't if it's worth it to donate or not.

Maybe Theo/Ducky donated more they just don't care about the bucket challenge or making their generosity public on youtube. Or maybe they just don't care/know enough or already donated a lot to other personal causes. It doesn't matter, it's their personal choice. Call them bitches for shit and giggles but don't ever try to claim they are terrible persons for not wanting to donate or take cold golden showers for ALS.

I didn't claim they were bitches. No one is obligated to donate at all. I even said I would personally prefer to donate to a homeless shelter. But don't insult the movement as a whole, because it is achieving something important and doing good.

Water is used because it doesn't provide any lasting marks/bruises/damage/etc. that hitting yourself or smashing your head would. Also, it's much easier to do, easy to clean up etc. Also because it travels fast and provides some 'challenge'. The whole point was to achieve virality to raise funds. Hitting yourself with a hammer is much less likely to spread than dumping a bucket of ice water on yourself.

It's like how the 40 hour famine works. People don't hit themselves in the stomach to simulate the terrible hunger pangs, they fast for 40 hours instead.
