What Does MKX Benefit From Having A Block Button?

No not at all. You misinterpreted it. If that was my intention then I would have saved all the trouble of writing textbook paragraphs within this thread and would have just straight out said so.

Good luck trying to figure out which side to block.
Avoid being underneath. Dont get outplayed and end up in that situation. Funny how I never had any real complaints about cross ups in Injustice. If you end up in that bad situation, who do you blame..the game or yourself?

That's a very common DD setup. He knocks you down, dashes over your body. Then neutral jump splash.

The best he got from MB Teleport pre-patch was still a very scaled conversion or a mixup check, on top of needing further meter for obvious reasons. His mixups were the same pre-patch and are quite frankly, pathetic.... compared to Batgirl's. I don't remember all the damage output properties pre-patch, but was there actually any matchups where the damage output from said 50/50s were in his favor?

I can sort of see the difference in jump attacks but that was because the D2 buff hadn't fully come to fruition. If an encouraged anti-air tool isn't doing what it's labeled to do, then yeah, understandably, something needs to be done.
I still wonder if, had Scorpion kept the properties of his jump attacks after the universal d2 buff, if they would have still been a problem.

Yeah...pretty much splash and Earthshaker were his big ways to open folks up. Saw them a lot. A Block Button would've murdered his whole gameplan.

You do know that its not a glitch right? Cross up is a result of Hitbox vs. Hurtbox. As we all know, hitbox and hurtbox can be edited and modified. Games are play tested, and developers such as Capcom are well aware of crossups.

Take the video that I made and posted within this thread as an example. Some buttons do not cross up while others do. Thats simply due to Hitbox vs. Hurtbox.

It's really not that hard at all to block cross ups. In a game such as SF4, there are many options to get out of the cross ups [blocking, back dash, focus back dash, auto-correct dp, dwu, ect.].
Go watch old King Of Fighters tournaments and watch people at point blank, blocking a normal and suddenly get spun around in place and now they're blocking the wrong way.

Also, tell me it's "not hard" to block crossups when characters can do glitchy things that cause characters to stand up quickly in one direction and then switch randomly, as happens in injustice and MK. And all you have to do is watch Marvel to see commentators absolutely baffled as to what side something hit on. It's not like deciding to go for an overhead or low. People can do crossup setups where they don't even know what they're gonna hit you with. Garbage.

Yes, it is glitchy. Crossups were an unintended mechanic in Street Fighter 2. The whole thing was a glitch that they left in and it became part of a particular style.

From what I can tell, every traditional Mortal Kombat has had a block button. The way I look at it, a game has a mechanic for the sole reason of having some benefit to gameplay. However when I put my mind to it, I can't even think of a reason as to what a block button actually does for gameplay (aside from eliminating cross-ups and such). Couldn't these game's be playable with a Back-to-Block system? In my head, I don't see how any existing mechanics are changed by this system. My initial thoughts even led me to believe that the games would actually benefit from that system since more game mechanics are being introduced. However, I don't see my myself as an "expert" when it comes to Mortal Kombat fighting game mechanics (or even general fighting game mechanics) so I'm most likely thinking about this from the wrong angle.

Can anyone more knowledgeable then myself shed some light on this? What does MKX benefit from having a block button?

Note: Not really discussing the meta. Just the mechanics.

I love the block button... always have, always will. Probably because I've played MK since the very beginning and changing it now would be terrible.
No one is asking to change it. We understand that the block button is MK. Most people who prefer B2B are just asking for an option along side the block button. We will be at disadvantage anyway right? No harm done.

This isn't a personal attack, I just think the notion is ridiculous. Back to block is easier for reasons described all over this thread. It would be bullshit for someone playing with a dedicated block button to be playing against someone who can automatically unblock on the first available frame. That's why, in a way, the block button takes more skill: you actually have to be aware of when you can unblock and counterattack, including knowing where gaps are.

Back to block is clearly more challenging with crossups but way easier when it comes to certain aspects of the game, including frame data knowledge and execution.

I would like to ask the exact opposite. What is the benefit of back to block?

The usual argument is that the block button it is scrubbier because it makes defense easier. Well back to block makes offense easier. One could argue that MK players are less scrubby because they don't have easy cross-ups as a crutch.

In my opinion, neither is superior, and neither has any specific benefit or purpose, other than to provide a way to defend. Different games will have different mechanics and different styles.

Back to block is better. Period. MK is one of the few series that has always utilized a block button. Does it make it less fun? No.
Saying "it's better, period" isn't really saying anything. How is back to block objectively better than a block button? Give me at least one reason.
