What's new

Big Question No1 is seeming to bring up!! MKX tournament rules wise.

how will the three styles be regulated in tournament.
by that i mean lets say my raiden style 1 looses to subzero style 1
i the raiden player loose the first match try to counter pick with x character x style can my opponent counter pick to a different style or is he locked to that one style ?

hmm without thinking id say style lock, but only character lock could turn out interesting too. just like double random did in injustice. still a great fear of mine is there will be spent more time in the menues than fighting. hopefully loading times are really quick or styles can be switched without going back.

I wanna know how and what console it'll be on since there's going to be a lot of people that play on ps4 and xbox1, to be honest please correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they made converters for nex gen consoles yet

Way too early to be talking about this.
Its too early to make a decision...but is it really too early for a discussion? Not like there's much else to talk about right now.

In any case I think that the final decision on this rule is going to have to boil down to just how extreme the differences are between the styles. At the moment though: I think that SFIV may provide a decent template to work from in this regard. In SFIV there is a character lock...however the winner *IS* allowed to change their Ultra after the opponent changes their character, but *before* they select their own ultra.

Hypothetical example: Reo's cryomancer subzero defeats Pig of the huts Quan Chi. Pig goes to character select and selects Scorpion. Reo now has the option to stick with cryomancer or change to grandmaster, but *must* make a decision before Pig selects his own style of Scorpion. Make sense?
Addendum: Not sure if this matches the rules for SFIV or not, but I agree with 300official's post also that if the losing player only chooses to change their style the winning player should probably be locked also.

This ruleset makes sense to me because IMO it still allows for soft counterpicking and provides options to the losing player, but will also hopefully help to cut down on the amount of hardcounterpicking that can really take the fun out of a game.

i was thinking that if you loose you can change character but your opponent now has the option to change style. but if you just change your style then your opponent is locked to his. what it all boils down to is the blind select seems definitely needed in this game because if not you know shit goes nutss

How? Wouldn't counter-picking be off the charts if the winner was allowed to counter-pick by changing the variation?
It's not really a counter-pick if you won. Plus a double-blind variation pick doesn't really allow counter-picking, if that's possible in the software.

But I think that having some fluidity in the variations is better than just having one counterpick after another following each match.

But then the loser has to worry about whether or not the winner is going to change variation. It shouldn't work that way. The idea of allowing the loser to counter-pick is the ability to make adjustments (albeit in this case, extreme ones, such as changing a character) to whatever just caused the loss. If the winner could change variation, then the loser is not playing what directly beat him.

Again, people like to over-complicated seemingly obvious issues.

Do not touch me again.
I'll probably just wait until 16Bit, Pig, Tom, and/or REO chime in with their thoughts after having played the game instead of wasting time bikeshedding tournament rules.

I don't understand the need to wait until the game is out to decide this. Let me ask: what could we possibly learn about the variations playing the game that we don't know now in terms of character/style lock in terms of this discussion?
