Nightwing In Retirement
WNF concludes for the second week after Injustice received it's balance patch. While Tyrant's Grundy proved to much for Superman the first week after the patch, MF Slayer decided enough was enough, and took his second WNF win in the last two weeks.
Even though the majority of the event wasn't streamed there was plenty of hype, salt, surprises, and great Injustice play at Super Arcade.
Starting Off:
WNF started off with a few great matches. The first featured Ultra David's Bane, making an incredibly hype comeback in a 2-1 set against I Am Noob's Batman. Shortly after, a mirror match between XBlades and Steve (that's me but I'm preserving journalistic integrity by remaining in 3rd person), provided for some hype Nightwing mirrors.
After placing higher than Steve at last WNF, XBlades popped off loudly yelling, "Best Nightwing in SoCal?" Fate decided that this theory needed to be tested, and pitted the Dick players against each other in the first round. Steve's defensive play proved too strong for XBlades, and he came out ahead 2-1.
After David made his comeback earlier, he was placed against Emperor Theo in his next match. In one of the most surprising choices of the night, Theo decided to play Aquaman. After defeating David's Bane he continued to play the kind of Atlantis, while making outlandish claims about how strong the character is for a large portion of the tournament.
The Hype and the Salt:
It wouldn't be WNF if it didn't feature a fair amount of hype, a fair amount of salt, and Wonder Chef losing to Superman.
MF Slayer started his journey at WNF win a win, but was then faced against Krayzie. Despite great reads and patience by both players, Krayzie won by only a claw's length, finishing Slayer's Superman with an excellently spaced jump back 2 into catdash to finish the over eager Clark Kent.
Slayer was then pitted against Wonder Chef in losers, who was sent there by Steve's NW in a close 2-1 set after Steve had lost the week before 0-2 to Chef's Zod. After Slayer started off both matches strong, he used his large life lead to zone Aquaman out extremely well, and ended up sending home Chef. In one of the saltiest moments WNF has witnessed, Chef slammed his stick onto the table, muttering and cursing about Superman at the same time. Slayer ended up fighting his way through losers and made his way into top 3 by defeating FR Legend's Sinestro.
The Dream:
Top 3 for Injustice started off with a classic matchup, team RDK's Tyrant and Godspeed playing Grundy vs Black Adam. After Tyrant forced Godspeed to clash late in the match, a poorly timed drone entrance ended up spelling the end for Tyrant's Grundy. A stage switch to fortress of solitude seemed to help Tyrant as he took the second game. The last match was sent back to the top floor of Metropolis, and after gaining a huge lead and then quickly losing it, Tyrant made some clutch reads to win the set 2-1.
Losers finals featuring RDK Godspeed against MF Slayer, in a classic Superman and Black Adam showdown. Both matches showcased strong footsies and movement by both players, but Slayer ended up taking the set 2-0 over Godspeed.
Grand finals featured a change from Tyrant, as he opted to play Bane against Slayer's Superman. This proved to be a bad choice, however, as Slayer took out Tyrant's Bane fairly quickly, and forced him back to Grundy after the bracket reset. After a very dominating game 1 win for Tyrant. The second game Slayer stepped up and won on his map, and forced a game 3. After an early clash Tyrant was hit in the corner, and the resulting setup Slayer used was enough to take out Tyrant's Grundy for good.
Congrats to Slayer for winning his 2nd WNF!
