Wireless controllers at tournaments

Possibly dumb question, but I honestly don't know: Are wireless controllers permitted/frowned upon at organized events? I'm fond of the 6-button MadCatz SF4 fightpads for MK, but I don't know of any wired PS3 ones.

I suppose I could always just use one of those Mad Catz fightpads with a long USB cord. Hmmm.

I thought at evo you could play with ps3 pads or madcatz pad. did they change the rules?

Some tournaments allow wireless PS3 controllers with a desync station (I'm pretty sure DEVASTATION will do that this year). For 360 tournaments, most organizers require that you remove the battery pack and use a play and charge kit, so that the controller turns off as soon as it's unplugged.
