Doctor Rektangle
Think outside the Box
Okay so MK9 comes out and there's a little thing called stance switch. Universal mechanic that even makes its way into Injustice Gods Among Us. Now in those two titles the most I've seen anyone get out of this "feature" is the most telegraphed pseudo/ambiguous cross up set up with Solomon Grundy.
But 9 times out of 10 it ends up being a dumb mechanic that causes combos to drop, some spacing issues, & moves to whiff. So why is THIS the core mechanic that gets transferred over to each NRS Title?
How is this mechanic something you're willing to bet the farm on to distinguish you from the rest? Just to show off you modeled the characters as cheeks as well? So Kitana playerz have something to look at that isn't just IAFans?
In MKX it could've been a run button, universal throw break, the short cut for 1+2 in strings like r2 does grabs in strings that end in grabs. But nope it does the most arbitrarily absurd thing in modem fighting games.
Unless there's some deep meta in the 3 afomentioned games that I missed that revolved around switching stance makes a character godlike. It's not like it's the fastest motion for it either and to my knowledge it's not something that can be special cancelled either. You can't do it while blocking cause that's Xray. I mean this finds its way into each game but not those netcode buffs? I'm confused. That and we'll breathing hitboxes...
